Must be heated to sit flat on the floor.by echoesone (3 out of 5 stars)

Be advised, it will come rolled up in a box and you will have to warm it up before you will be able to try to get it to lay on the floor for your chair. It will be sticking up all over. As long as you warm it up first and you have 2 people to push it down to the floor, it will now become somewhat workable. Now you need a hair dryer set on high heat and you will need to sit on top of the chair mat and starting from one end begin heating the plastic until you see it settle to the floor. You must continue this procedure working your way all the way down to the other end heating it so it sits flat to the floor. Once you finish this task, your chair mat will work just fine.
it was predictably mat burrito that liked that shape

This mat came rolled up tightly and shoved into a box. When I removed it from the box, it was predictably mat burrito that liked that shape. I took it out into the 96 degree sun and left it on my driveway for 8 hours with the hope that it would soften and unroll. They suggest using a hair dryer to warm it up and then put heavy things on it to flatten it. After a week of working with it, it was sort of flat. It still has some stubborn spots.
I put this mat under my desk in my home office. The office has low pile carpet with padding underneath. The mat is so thin that it sinks into the carpet under my chair. When I attempt to roll the chair forward or back, it's like trying to push it through ballistic gel (ie it doesn't roll at all with my weight on it.).
So, unless you have commercial carpet glued straight to cement or hardwood floor, I suggest you pass on this mat.
Excellent Value

Excellent value. I read a lot of reviews on this product. Many were negative because people found the mat difficult to unroll. It's nearly summer here, and I simply tossed the thing on my deck in the 80 degree sun for a few hours to heat it though. The thing unrolled without incident and was under my chair in minutes ... fully flat. Take heed. If you're in colder seasons, that's another show. It is stiff right out of the box.
Good for the price with only a few problems.

It's pretty good for the price. Lasted me so far but there are problems. Overall I am not unhappy I bought it but I am not in love with it or anything.
One: They ship it rolled up. I have no idea how else they would do it, but since it's a harder plastic, you end up having to wrestle it to get it out and flat. With the spiked bottom... Well, it's not painful but it is certainly unpleasant.
Two: My chair wheels dents the plastic. I tried to capture it in the photos but the results were lackluster. TO BE FAIR, I am not a small guy... At all. I am 6'4 and I weigh 290 pounds (used to be 340 {Not so humble brag.}) It could (probably) be that I am heavy enough to dent it were others won't but all the same. It will eventually wear through in those spots and then I will have to buy another matt.
Too soft and squishy.

The plastic is too soft to let the wheels roll.... My chair performed better on the carpet - this squishes down under the wheels and needs great effort and momentum to move the chair. (Easier to stand up and lift the chair and move it.) Divots from the chair's wheels remain in the soft plastic for a while, then eventually go away. Went back to rolling on the carpet.
Get A Hairdryer!

Another reviewer saved me from endless frustration. This item arrives in a very tight coil and is as hard as a Ken doll's abs. You will not be able to lay it flat.
There is a solution! It needs heat. Get a hairdryer and a couple weights (I used chairs). As the heat relaxes the plastic, you can slowly unravel the plastic and it will lie flat with no problems or curling. The chairmat will retain it's shape as it cools.
The plastic is thick enough to protect my carpet and durable. You just got to finesse it.
Barely useful-did not fully flatten after shipping

I bought this to use at work. It came rolled up and was curled from shipping, so I laid it out weighted down with heavy boxes for several days, hoping it would flatten. While it did flatten some, it is still lumpy and I'm not sure which is better, using it or going without. If they're going to ship it rolled, it should be of a quality that it will flatten. Otherwise, it's just a waste of money.
Easy to lay out

Laid it out in the sun for one day and it lays perfectly flat, great mat
They arrive rolled up, not flat, read the full description that I failed to read.

I didn't read the details that they arrived rolled up. I ordered a slightly different style/color from another company which arrived the same day, it was flat. It only cost a few bucks more. (I wanted one that didn't have the lip for under the desk, just a rectangle.) I took it out and put it in place right away. But the two I bought here, are so frustrating and taking way too much of my time to keep trying to flatten, trying to use a hair dryer to flatten. They are stubborn and if I land my hand on the side with the little nubs one more time, I will lose it. Yes, you got me, I didin't read the description. Now I can return for $12 bucks and I guess I will do that. I am giving up trying to flatten. Who has time for this? Frustrated.
Not what is pictured

The mat is not the same as in the pictures used. In the picture they show a thicker mat that is tapered down at the edges and does not have carpet grip up to the edges, the mat I received is thin all the way through with no taper and carpet grips all the way to the edge. Not worth the return because I doubt anyone is selling a better mat than this for only 20 bucks, but you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a mat like the one in the picture, be advised this is not it. As far as it being shipped rolled up, I'm not sure how else you would expect them to ship an item like this. I flattened it out with 2 weights on either side and once it warmed up it was fine. It does pucker under weight, like chair legs, and doesn't look very nice, but I bought it so I don't have to clean the carpet under my boyfriends desk as often.
