How are BIOCUPS Produced?

BIOCUPS are made with 70% bagasse, which is a byproduct of sugar cane and 30% wood pulp. In order to make the cups watertight, they are lined with PLA (Polylactic Acid) which is made from plant-based materials such as corn starch or sugar cane. PLA is known as a bioplastic because these materials are made from renewable resources, and turn into rich fertilizer when properly disposed.

Our lids are made with 100% Crystallized Polylactic Acid (CPLA), a biodegradable thermoplastic derived from corn starch made specially for high-temperature uses and the stirring sticks are made of 100% percent birch wood. BIOCUPS cups are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved, and have been certified Compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and DIN CERTCO.
