The boars thrive in the high temperatures and moist climate, and grow especially firm bristles. The boars are raised for their meat, but the bristles are saved for the merchant who travels from farm to farm to purchase them. It is these unique boar bristles, which come from the back of the boar's neck area, that make this brush so special. The first cut of the boar bristle is the most firm. This cut includes the root, which is the light color visible at the bristle's end. Named for the port they are exported from, Calcutta bristles require specialized techniques for brush making. This is why a high quality brush made with Calcutta bristles is a rare and premium item.

High quality wild boar bristles naturally absorb oils from the scalp. When the hair is brushed, this oil is transferred down the hair shaft. This process creates a natural sheen, volume and fullness, while also helping to prevent split ends.

• THICKEST BOAR BRISTLES: Calcutta Max bristles are quite stiff yet still gentle. They come from a special type of wild boar raised in India’s high country. The bristles are 1st cut and slightly longer than standard for better penetration through thick hair. The bristle range in length from 0.82 to 0.94 inches (21-24 mm).
• GRIPS HAIR FOR MAX BENEFIT: Bristles are staggered in length, which allows the brush to grip hair much better. NOTE: While these are the stiffest boar bristle possible, they are not as stiff as nylon bristles. For maximum penetration through especially thick hair types, it may be necessary to brush hair in sections.
• FULL SIZE BRUSH: The solid maple wood handle is made from locally grown wood in Europe. Size is 8.75 x 2.25 inches.
