A Great Memento from The Great Wall!by AP (5 out of 5 stars)
September 12, 2019
LEGO managed to pull off a design that is fun to assemble, resembles the original object, and can be showcased both as decoration and a memento of a visit to this monumental landmark.
Highlights:
- the towers managed to retain a striking resemblance with the architecture and style you'd find in many sections of the wall. The fact that one is rotated 45 degrees in relation to the other is a nice touch
- the inclinares portion of the design is movable and that's the secret to achieve a very credible look and feel of progressive inclination that one finds when climbing the wall. This nuance wouldn't be possible with a more static / fixed design
- same comment for the wavy portion of the wall. So genuine and so ingenious to implement it as movable hinges
- the green topography reflects the lush vegetation found in the hilly areas of the wall close to Beijing and coast
- the nameplate in English and Chinese was a nice surprise since it capture the wall in the local language. Thought it was very respectful and added even more authenticity to the piece
Opportunities:
- the light brownish color of the wall is quite different from the original, which is made of stone whose shade aligns with gray tones. It might have been done on purpose to make the piece distinguishable from a distance. In gray, it may have camouflaged itself in the background. Maybe a very light shade of gray would have been an acceptable compromise?
- with the towers capturing the finer details of its style, trees added to the piece felt excessively pixelated in comparison. Nonetheless, they are still a good addition to the piece making it resemble an architectural model
- did not understand some of the transparent pieces added to this design. Failed to represent water if that was the attempt. A silvery piece would be better in mimicking the mirrors used in traditional models
Awesome for 11 yro!

I wanted a more "mature" Lego challenge for my 11 yro stepson and this was perfect! It took him under 2 hours and was very satisfying. He was so excited about the quality of the Lego booklet before he even started building. We bought him Lego glue but the pieces stayed together without it (nothing worse than multi-collapsing challenging sets). Love this set!
Realalistic Wall winding through the China forests.

I liked the 2color combo, Especially the forest green. I thought it brilliant of Lego, aside from the $ aspect, to make it a choice to buy multiple sets, extending the wall to look more like the "real" wall, space allowing.
Great set

Great addition to our collection. It was a gift for my husband, and he loves it. But buyer beware. The instructions show that you can buy 4 and string them, and now my husband wants more.
Decent set but not worth $50 IMO. If you can get it for $30ish it's worth it

I feel like a lot of the new lego products have a ton of super tiny pieces that are made just to get their piece count up. I really loved this because my wife and I hike the Great wall while dating and have pictures of us there, so it's more for sentimental reasons that she bought it for me. Otherwise I dont think it would be more than $30

The Great Wall LEGO model is a tribute of our recent trip to China. My wife and I and some close friends were actually there. This model is pretty close as to where we were,
minus the million's of people on it with us.
Easy assembly, fun for young and old.
Great way to spend an late afternoon into evening.

Out of all the Lego kits I've put together this was the most difficult as instructional photos often misleading . I've completed about 90% of the wall l, but put it aside and believe the're several missing pieces. Before I start one I break down the smaller pieces by category into small plastic cups. For what it's worth my favorite kits were Falling Water & The Farnsworth House.
Absolutely love it!

Absolutely love it. After this set, I bought another two sets to extend it and make it look even better.
My 8-8-yr-old grandson constructed this with no help

I bought this for my 8-yr-old grandson who wanted a "different" Lego set. He liked this a lot and was able to put it together by himself in a few hours. Based on the age recommendation I had expected it to occupy him longer than it did.

Who would've known that pressing blocks of plastic together is so rewarding? Come on, it's LEGO. Of course it's great, and most kids love it. This recreation of the Great Wall is pretty cool to have on a shelf. A good conversation starter. Enough said!
