This fishing set it amazing. My kid is insane and destroys everything. Loves to throw, smash, bash, you name it. The end of the fishing pole is thin and bends easily. And the second I got it I was like "well these are gonna snap off and no time and be absolutely unusable." NO. NO. NO. Got then about five months ago and still going strong with heavy use.

We even put all the fish in the pool and fished them out with no problems.
You would think for toys with string and turning parts and reels ect., they would break easily which is exactly what I thought but these things are completely indestructible and I love them

BUY THIS DAMN TOY. Keeps kid entertained for a good 45 mins. You won't be disappointed.

This is a great product and my grandson loves it. It is sturdy and durable and the best part is that it helps to develop his hand/eye coordination. We also try to identify the different kinds of fish as we catch each one. It was a very smart purchase of a good product and great service,

I bought this set for a Trunk or Treat game where I needed a fishing game. The kids loved it! I didn't end up using the fishing poles that came with it because we were expecting over 200 kids and needed something that could sustain that pace and craziness, so I made my own big pole from a small flag pole I had. Having said that, I think the poles that come with it are great - compact and with strong magnets. Now that we are done with the "carnival type" need for this set, my son and daughter will enjoy each having their own fishing rods! Great little game!

My 2.5 year old daughter loves this. She likes to sort the fishes and name each fish/ocean item. She does not yet have the coordination/fine motor control to use the fishing rods. As an occupational therapist, I can see this being a good activity to improve upper body endurance, eye hand coordination, fine motor control/manipulation, visual scanning, functional reach, sitting/standing balance and learning the words of these items. It's also a fun activity to engage in with family.

This was a huge hit at a kids party. We had ages 2-5. The 2 year olds had no clue what to do but enjoyed playing without the pole. 3 year olds could catch the fish but needed some verbal instructions and reminders of how the pole works. 4-5 year olds had more attention span to catch fish and release by themselves.

My initial intention was to buy one of those games where the fish go around in a circle and you try to catch them. I chose this instead because the fish are nice and big! My two year old grandson had no trouble "catching" the fish. Yes, the magnet is small, but that hasn't stopped him from getting the fish on the pole. PLUS, even if he doesn't "catch" them he loves having them float around in the water. The fishing poles retract. Pull it out carefully. You also get nets so you can have a big haul. I liked that there were more water creatures than just fish. Give it a try!

The magnets are far too small, as are the screws which are on each creature. Further exacerbating this problem is the fact that most of the (too small) screws are placed on the "mouths", which makes it even harder for children to access with their magnetic fishing poles. In my opinion, the screws should have been placed on top of each animal. The mechanism of the fishing poles themselves is fine and relatively sturdy.

UPDATE: The seller has incredible customer service! Although I did not request this, I was sent two replacement sets!

I decided to place a bowl filled with the "fish" out of reach so they couldn't "cheat" by simply placing each fish on the magnet, then exclaiming that they got one ;) This worked well and helped them improve their eye-hand coordination.

This game actually survived a week of Christmas playtime!

For these reasons, I have added two stars to my review.
