Lego Creativity Set 10708 - Greenby Mummy of Two (5 out of 5 stars)
March 10, 2017
This review will not show the verified purchase badge as I am a UK Amazon customer and purchased this on the UK Amazon website (where it does show the badge). I do buy some toys and books over here on .com and so decided to post this review as no-one else had posted one for the set at the time.
Lego have recently brought out four of these small creativity sets, with each focusing on a different colour range:-
Blue Lego set 10706 which has 78 pieces (mine also included an extra spare eye piece so had 79 pieces)
Red Lego set 10707 which has 55 pieces (mine also included an extra spare eye piece so had 56 pieces)
Green (this Lego set 10708) which has 66 pieces (again mine also included an extra spare eye piece so had 67 pieces)
Orange Lego set 10709 which has 60 pieces (mine came with an extra 4 spare small pieces so had 64 pieces)
Each set comes with two small bags containing the Lego and also a small building guide which gives easy to follow building instructions for your child to make three different builds which vary in difficulty level between three different levels. The guide also gives some ideas of how to make other small builds with the set or by combining parts from the four different sets together to make multicoloured builds. Of course your child doesn't have to follow the ideas given and can build whatever their imagination conjures up too or the set can be used for add-on bricks to other sets, spares etc.
The three main builds for this Green 10708 set are:-
Small Castle - Difficulty Level 1 (Easy Building)
Green Tractor - Difficulty Level 3 (Advanced Building)
Alligator - Difficulty Level 1 (Easy Building)
Each of the main build's building instructions are easy to follow and even the level 3 build was reasonably easy to do and so I think the age guide of from 4 years old and upwards is appropriate as my son was able to complete all of the builds with just a little bit of help from me on some parts.
Another thing I really like about these sets is that you can build all 3 of the main builds at the same time as Lego have ensured there are enough bricks to be able to do so without having to dismantle any to build the others.
I have attached some photos showing the builds from this set, the bricks that are included in this set, the builds from all four sets and some of the mix-match creations too. I have also attached a photo showing a ten pound note alongside the box to give you an idea of the size of it.
I have bought all four of the different coloured sets for my children and whilst they are small sets, I can confirm that they do represent good value for the £4.99 cost each. The Blue set 10706 has slightly more pieces included in it than the other three sets, but each of them do come with a nice selection of bricks including large and small pieces. The price point is great and although these would make good sets year round, with Easter coming up soon these could be nice alternative gifts for any Lego mad children rather than purchasing them an egg. I bought these sets for my two children as little holiday sets to take away with us on our recent break and as the boxes are small they did fit perfectly into their small toy bags.
I think it may be worth mentioning that the sets do not come with any figures as they are purely intended for building creations and that they are the standard sized Lego as opposed to the larger Lego Duplo.
For the price, I really cannot fault these little sets and they are great for mixing together and just letting your children build whatever their mind creates too.
Perfect birthday goodie bag treat.

These were perfect for little goodie bag gifts for my son's birthday party at school. Better than cupcakes because they have no sugar or allergens, and far more impressive and valuable to parents than other party favor junk you can buy for the same price. They seem costly at first since each student gets one, but by the time you assemble a goodie bag with other random cheap China crap you will have spent the same amount and at least this is a toy that won't immediately go into the trash when they get home. The little book comes with quite a few things to build and there are a surprising number of legos in this set for the price. Kid and parents were thanking us all week and telling us which things they built, which won't happen if you send a bag of plastic tops, erasers, etc. Also they obviously can be incorporated into kids exiting lego or block sets. We also got the Lego apple for the teacher. Super cute.
Great for needing a few minutes with a kid distracted!

For the price these were just right! I loved that they had different options of what to make and soon he was building his own creations, unlike character sets where he build the scene and stops to leave it that way. I bought a bunch of these and the other colors to give to my younger two kids while I cleaned. I have also tucked a set in my daughter's hospital bag for her in and out clinicals. I have even given my son a cake tin from the dollar store to keep one set in while he plays with it in the van. They are great for just me to tuck away and pull out when I need to do dishes without hearing I am bored! for the 600th time in 10 minutes.
Great idea, fun, would get again but PIECE problem - got doubles, wrong ones

These are a wonderful idea and I purchased both blue and green. For mom with Lego age kids (I'd say 6/7 is ideal) is this is a great item to toss in a large ziplock (no box) and keep in your purse or car for a restaurant or laptop desk for car rides etc. Portable legos. My only complaint is a minor one but drove my son crazy. BOTH times we purchased this the box was missing 1-2 pieces and had doubles of other pieces. Because the creations are so pint-sized, you notice this and my son was annoyed he couldn't fully complete what was pictured. It irked me too. ONE box I get but both I bought? That makes me think it isn't a random occurrence but happens all the time. I have never had piece issues/mistakes in LARGE lego kits so why in this mini one?
Love them!

I got all the different colors, and my grandkids really love them. I think they prefer these to the sets that just make one thing. When they make those they don't want to take them apart, and what's the fun in that? With these sets they get enough pieces to make lots of different things, and they have a total ball with them. Love them, and the price is excellent!
Quite fun, especially if you have the other classic color ...

Quite fun, especially if you have the other classic color sets it goes with. By itself it's OK but with other colored classics it's extremely fun. It's very fun for it's low price.
Easy to put together and fun!

These were fun and easy for my almost 4 year old to put together and a cheap, quick project for him to do with his dad while I was at work. He was really proud when he showed me the alligator that he made and it actually looked really cool too! He ended up pushing the tractor around the house for a few days too!
Just right for kids new to LEGO.

I like these small LEGO sets. The easy picture directions in the box make it a fun way for young children to learn how to follow instructions. They learn to take the time to read instructions (with pictures), sort the pieces, and build the items each box has for...
Lots of possibilities.

The kids love these kids, and I love them, too. It's amazing what you can accomplish with so few pieces. The suggestions/instructions for models are very simple and easy-to-follow. The kids are inspired to play with this one little set for hours.
painful things, and it worked great

My son's first Lego set, I bought it to see how well he can handle the responsibility of owning these tiny, painful things, and it worked great! the booklet explained each design easily enough for a 4 year old, plus had alternative ideas. I bought this with the orange set, so he had two animals and a bit more variety.
