Initial impression... OUTSTANDING
by PK (5 out of 5 stars)

This is only my initial impression based on limited usage after just receiving the DelGuard pencil. I really love this pencil. I have always been bothered by how easily the lead would break with other mechanical pencils, but the DelGuard works exactly as advertised. Under heavy pressure the pencil adjusts to prevent breakage. If the pencil holds up with usage, then it will be a sure winner.

Innovative Mechanical Pencil!
by diesel85 (5 out of 5 stars)

I'm a mechanical pencil freak. Have been since I was in grade school. I got all kinds of clutch pencils and mechanical pencils in my collection. I usually get a few unusual pencils a year, I decided to give this one a shot. Though, suffice to say, I'm a .9mm guy, it was a pencil I "gotta" have in my collection.

It does hold up to it's name with it's name to claim. Up to 3 clicks, the lead will not break. A few times I got it up to 4 clicks and the lead didn't break. But with 1, 2, or 3 clicks, you can press really hard and it just retracts back in, then when you release, it pops back out. Pretty neat design if you ask me.

Only downside is, there is too much plastic. I prefer metal pencils. Like out of aluminum or brass, made with metal components. There are only a few left that use all metal parts. But you are looking at spending some cash.

However, it appears if the pencil is well made, and the components are engineered in such a way that it should last several years. Longer if only used at a desk.

Zebra gives you extra pencil leads, in HB (#2) grade hardness. I did notice they seemed more like a H hardness, more than a HB. Maybe just a quality HB lead? Not sure. I'd have to do more analysis on the lead composition. Just by the faintness of how it was writing compared to my Pentel HB, and my Nano Dia HB leads of the same thickness. I have a feeling there is more clay in the lead making it stronger, more like in the middle ground of H and HB.

I need to try some of my Pentel colored leads in it. They are a LOT more brittle than regular pencil lead. Curious to see if the DelGuard system will protect against broken colored leads. As that was one of the reasons I was looking into this pencil. Whenever I get around to it, I'll come back and report my findings.

All in all, it's a great pencil for the money. It goes up similar to my Mitsubishi/Uni Kuru Toga with the rotating lead mechanism.

The perfect pencil for field use

Love this thing! Working in the field for work and recording notes was always a pain when i had to click my old pencils 300 times to be able to write every 5 seconds. The lead breaking prevention on these things are amazing!

Outstanding product

I have always loved the idea of a mechanical pencil: the consistency of the writing size, never requiring sharpening, etc. Unfortunately, I was never able to take advantage of one, because I press too hard when I write. No lead would survive my writing. One or two words in, and SNAP. Click-click, write some more a little softer....SNAP. Forget it. Now, Zebra has invented a solution that works. I am not paid for this endorsement. Seriously, they totally solved the problem. I bought a second one as a back up in case I lose it. I am giving these away as gifts to students. I recommend them to my colleagues. I cannot stress enough how much I love this freaking pencil.

Works great for woodworking.
by Snowa (5 out of 5 stars)

I was skeptical about the "anti-breaking" properties of this pencil but am now convinced. I use this pencil exclusively for marking up woodworking projects. Usually lead this thin snaps of very easily. This design protects the lead so that you are able to make clean, accurate marks without the lead snapping off repeatedly. The key for me was to use at most 3 clicks to extend the lead. More than 3 and the lead breaks off too easily. I liked this enough to buy a second pencil to keep in another part of the shop. Would definitely buy again and highly recommend to woodworkers.

Great feel!

It was difficult choosing a bed cover, expecially for a CAL King. I didn't know if the linen was going to feel cheap or if it would be a material that doesn't breath. This is a great bed cover that feels great, cool to the tough, and easy to clean or wash. It stretches just enough to fit perfect on the mattress and it does not leave extra material. It just fits perfect. Because of the stretchy corners, it easily wraps around the bed corners and it stays hooked on the corners. I move a lot at night and I am used to the corners of the bed being pulled from under the mattress. Not this cover! It stays snug. I have not had a problem with the cover coming off the mattress. I recommend this product.

Not feeling the love
by Java Dude (2 out of 5 stars)

I own some two dozen mechanical pencils in .03, .05, .07, .09, 2mm and 5.6mm (not to mention wood cased and woodless pencils). I use them for writing, drawing and sketching, and do quite a bit of each. I know a little about them.

The Zebra DelGuard is a major disappointment for me, in nearly all aspects. The bottom third of the barrel, where you grip the pencil, is a hard plastic with ridges, which I suppose was designed to enhance your grip. It in fact does not. The plastic is too slick. The Zebra Z-Grip has a rubbery grip instead, which is what the DelGuard needs. The hand feel is uncomfortable with too small a diameter of the barrel and too light in weight. This combination causes my hand to cramp after writing as little as a legal pad page. The hyped DelGuard System rarely activates during my use, and I consider myself heavy handed. I have not experienced an improvement in lead breakage over my other mechanical pencils.

A major complaint I have, the deal "breaker," is that several times when I started to write, the pencil snagged on the paper, driving me crazy.

Then there's the lead that comes with it. More disappointment. Rated HB, it is noticeably lighter and harder than any of the other HB leads I have. The lead has a drag to it as it moves across the paper. If you're going to use this pencil I suggest you unload the Zebra lead and load up one of the better quality leads. Try a Pilot Neox HB or a Pentel Ain STEIN and you'll be glad you did. I prefer the Pilot Neox B or 2B lead in this pencil. Speaking of loading leads, this pencil makes the process much easier than other mechanical pencils, due to a fuss-free eraser and cap. Zebra really got this part right. Incidentally, the eraser is very good.

I can't recommend the DelGuard pencil for writing. I find it more usable for drawing and sketching but will not be buying any more DelGuard pencils. It's about the last pencil I find myself reaching for.

First mech. pencil I have had with this feature, BUT...
by willightsm (5 out of 5 stars)

All this pencil REALLY does; is rotate the lead when you button-advance it to minimize the development of a "chisel" point. The chisel point can catch on the paper during writing causing a lead break. I like this product very much, so far. However, this feature has no advantage if you DO NOT frequently advance the lead.

I am glad to say that it does not
by Collin (5 out of 5 stars)

I own just about every pen/pencil product under the sun, and I am very picky about what I choose to use. When I first discovered this pencil, my first question was "Does the spring action interfere with my ability to write normally?" I am glad to say that it does not. I haven't really tried to break the lead, but it hasn't broken naturally by writing!

You may want to get some extra erasers because they go quick!

If you have an issue breaking your lead (especially you 0.5 users) you will really like this pencil! I'm pretty happy with it!

Works great, worth getting.
by Braidon (4 out of 5 stars)

They normally say things that sound too good to be true are just that, but not in this case.

This pencil covers the end of the lead when pressed down upon, so there really is no good way to break the lead, unless you have it way too far out the end.

Only gripe i have about it, and its so minor, is that it doesnt have a rubberized grip. The standard plastic ribbed grip works fine, but if you're writing for a long time, it starts to get uncomfortable to use.

Other than that it really is a great product, but could be improved upon even more
