Bang For Buck? I guess...

Hold your horses before you think "WOW! WHAT A GREAT PRICE OF WOOD CHUNKS!"

I've purchased the Hickory and Apple chunks and my experiance with both bags has been as follows...
100% wood chunks? Negative.

When I got the bags of hickory and apple wood 60% of these bag were wood chunks, about 10-15% of that 60% has too much bark and the rest are small to medium sized chips... I expect to have some smaller pieces in there but with almost half of the bag being chips it makes the 'value' of this product pretty weak...

Wood Quality/Taste

The wood is not bad quality but it's not great either... You're getting what you're paying for! However, all of these bagged chips/blocks/chunks are going to be about the same.

Burn Time? Inconsistent...

I have noticed that some of these chunks burn really well while others seem to burn way too quickly or with mixed results...

Finally, I feel this is just an OK product which can come in handy if you're in a bind...

I just received this item today and it is a FAR CRY from "chunks"!! It is irritating to get LARGE SPLINTERS whenever you order CHUNKS. The entire package consists of nothing but large chips.......at best. I am so tired of running back and forth to return things. These are NOT CHUNKS.

Large chips, not chunky
by Librarocks (2 out of 5 stars)

Larger than chips but I wouldn't call them chunks. I would definitely not buy these again. Hopefully you can tell from the photo that most of the pieces are about an inch wide. There are about 5 actual chunks in the whole bag. These will burn too quickly in my smoker so I'm not sure how I'm going to use them

A mix of chips and chunks
by GWH (3 out of 5 stars)

Disappointed. Yes, there are chunks in the bag. There are also lots of pieces that are NOT chunks, but chips.

Seriously, Weber, how hard is it to put just chunks in a bag labeled chunks? You are better than this.

I use chips in a Smoke Vault 24" gas smoke, and in my 22" Weber kettle. But in my Pit Barrel Cooker, I want chunks that will last at least 3 hours. While there are some in the bag that will do that, at least 40% of the bag will not.

I bought 2 bags of these. I will use the chips as well as the chunks, but I already had plenty of apple chips. I needed chunks.

Good quality wood, just wish they gave more uniform pieces. See image for amount of tiny pieces

Quality Control issues....
by Chewabacca (3 out of 5 stars)

Well, I love my Weber Products like my WSM and Kettle, this is my first time ordering Pecan Wood Chunks from WEBER, and found a curled up strip of plastic with the wood, I thought it was a strip of wood, but upon examination, it was a plastic curly strip. Not happy about that, but over all I tried the Pecan for the first time smoking drum-sticks and was very, very pleased with this wood. I would of given it a 5 star, but with that quality control issue dropped it down 2 stars to 3. I don't usually buy "WEBER" stuff, because there is a ton of other companies that sell similar products, and so I am NOT a brand follower, but wanted to try Weber for it, to get higher quality because of the name "WEBER", The wood is great, that plastic curly thin strip threw me off.

Hope you like getting stabbed by nails
by Alibastor (2 out of 5 stars)

Ended up reaching into one of my bags & stabbing my hand open - there was a nail sticking sharp end out of a chunk of wood - not okay! Honestly I feel like I deserve an apology after sticking this thing nearly an inch into my hand. To make things worse, 4/5 of the bags had maybe 4 pieces of actual chunks in them. I bought wood chunks, not chips. One of the bags was excellent had almost all chunks - & if I got that bag every time(without a nail in it) then I'd give this product a 5 star review. If you get lucky and get chunks, you're gonna make an epic meal. This wood delivers & amazing flavor & a super clean burn. It works great with chicken, pork & even beef. I'm going give it some time before being Weber Wood Chunks again - & I'm gonna hope they've fixed some of these issues.

Exactly as advertised. 1 bag, 10lbs of pork, 12 hours in the WSM, awesome results!

I read the reviews that talked about getting more chips than chunks but decided to take a chance. I ordered 2 bags and they both look like the picture from Weber. Yes, there are some scrap pieces but less than a cup worth.

I smoked a pair of 5 pound pork shoulders for 12 hours. 1 bag was able to keep a healthy amount of smoke for the entire time. Added great flavor to the meat.

I will be buying this again.

Nice mild smoke
by KC (5 out of 5 stars)

Good sized chunks throughout. You'll find some small splintered pieces by the time you get to the bottom of the bag, but nothing that would make me say rip-off. Apple is pretty mild, so if you're looking for some smoke that isn't too overpowering, this would be one for you to try. Cherry is mild too, and typically produces a more pronounced smoke ring for me.

Perfect for Turkey and chicken!
by Mark B (5 out of 5 stars)

I'm 100% Cowboy charcoal, chimney starter and prefer chunk wood over chip for all of my Weber grills. I never use briquettes and lighter fluid.

I soak the wood chunks for a minimum of 30 minutes before using, sometimes up to an hour.

The Pecan wood's smoke adds the perfect flavor to chicken and turkey.

I use Mesquite a lot along with a number of other woods to smoke my food. The Pecan flavor has become my favorite over the past Summer. It's not as strong as Mesquite so it doesn't overpower the food that I BBQing.

The entire family and friends really enjoy the flavor.
