UPDATE [....it is great. I will update my post if I see ...]
by Z (1 out of 5 stars)
August 24, 2016

I have never post an insincere review. Never. This product was good, sturdy and strong. Everything was good and if you have it already it's probably works well for you. BUT, read this review, look at pictures and the way UAG replied my email after the incident.
6 months ago I noticed some small white spots on the screen. I thought it goes. It didn't. Last week I saw more white spots and a yellow one (hard to capture in the photo) on the screen.I found out sometimes my screen got so hot as much as no one can touch it. Last week I thought it's better to go to the Microsoft store and ask them if they can repair the screen. After I explained the issue and the person saw my surface immediately said "take off the case". I said why? He answered "this is the reason". He said this case caused your surface has these spots and also your monitor is deformed. (WHAT!!!). You can see in the picture that when I closed the type cover it did not evenly cover the monitor. I forgot to take a picture from back panel. When I tired to close the kickstand was a bit curved and made a click sound. I contacted UAG, they said we are not responsible. I explained everything but they didn't accept it. Now it's your call. Surface is expensive enough and losing such a high price device because of a case it's not fair to us. They don't listen to you. The only option they gave was a replacement. Why should I have a replacement? Having the same problem after a year or so?

Now you have your expensive surface, you want to protect it, and UAG as one of your options. I just say UAG answer does simply mean: we know there are some issues with our product, BUT we do NOT care. We see you as money.

I say: do NOT buy this.

Strong yet flawed
by Garrett Dubois (2 out of 5 stars)

(review after one year of use)

Pro:
* strong drop protection
* top pen holder is strong and keeps pen in place

Cons:
* metal stand is LOUD when deployed, loud enough it interrupts the entire room when adjusted
* no access to microSD slot on rear of Surface, you have to take the entire case off
* pull tab on the top corner snaps within months, so you can no longer secure the keyboard cover

Great product, but there are some trade-offs.
by Peter K. (4 out of 5 stars)

PROS:
1. Very rugged feel. MAGPUL type quality.
2. Solid adjustable kickstand design.
3. Quality seems on par with price.

Cons
1. Weight
2. As others have said, removal is painstaking if you don't want to crack your Surface Pro.

Verbose: I waited for some time to write any kind of review, because on its arrival I did not really know how I felt. I'll echo other reviewers and say that what surprised me most was the dramatic perceived increase in weight and loss of form-factor. I almost didn't think I would keep it and considered returning it because it turned this slim machine into something that felt bulkier and ungainly.

However, after some time I realized that it really wasn't that bad for my purposes. It (The Surface Pro + Case + Type cover) was still far lighter than my Lenovo, and in fact is still lighter than my Wife's 2015 Macbook Pro. It was annoying at times, taking a device that has slimmed to the point of actually having the form factor of an iPad and then tacking on a bunch of ounces...but I don't regret it and have left it on for one simple reason: I break stuff. I do. I have excuses: I'm in the military, I travel a lot, etc. I commute to work and I need something that I can throw in my bag and know that it can handle being jostled around. I'd like to take better care of my electronics, but I don't always have that ability. This thing has withstood a significant amount of travel and "jostling" over the past few months and the whole thing still looks like new. Yes, I wish it was lighter and sometimes I get annoyed that I can't get the UAG kickstand to sit quite as well as the original and I'll take the case off....but day to day? I keep the case on 95% of the time and don't regret buying it at all.

Very Practical
by Fuzzhao (5 out of 5 stars)

I needed a rugged case because a crack appeared in the corner of my screen after an plane ride. One crack means the entire screen will be prone to more cracks. I decided to get some protection to extend the life of my Surface.

I got this UAG Surface Pro case after trying out the Otterbox brand case. I am a fan of Otterbox but the UAG product is much better.

It does protect all the way around, it's a solid fit. But some areas are still kinda mobile (around the ports)

There are air vents all the way around but if the pen is in place, some of them are covered by the pen.

The stand kind of sucks, but it's better than the other options out there. The stand is noisy and the tolerances around the hinges are not very tight. But it is still cast metal (most likely cast aluminum), grips and stands well.

If you hold your Surface on your forearm a lot, this case has a comfortable bottom edge. (the Otterbox had a sharp edge that dug into my arm)

The stand is also a T shape, so you can actually grip it better with it extended.

The buttons still work perfectly (UAG did this right, Otterbox completely screwed this up)

The grippy texture is definitely appreciated. Yes, it adds a bit of heft, and it looks more silly than an unprotected Surface, but it's actually very practical.

The charging port is shaped to support both up and down cable orientations.

Stop debating...this is the one!

I did a lot of research before finally deciding on this case for my surface pro 4. I went back and forth on several different ones because I wasn't sure if I wanted to loose the function of the built in kick stand. And the case is an excellent fit, very snug and secure with great edge protection. The pen holder on top is also a great fit. I think it holds better than the magnet on the side.

This UAG case has an excelent stand as well as great cut outs for the ventilation of your computer. There are also great cut outs for the USB port and charging cable. The only down side to this case is that the stand clicks when you slide it out.

I have seen a few reviews that say the screen cracked when they put it on, but mine went on really easy with out a lot of force. This may have a bit to do with the fact that it was warm today so the sides were softened a bit. If this is something you are worried about, just let the case sit in sunlight for a bit and it'll be no problem!

Ignore Those One Star Reviews
by Jeffrey Malone (5 out of 5 stars)

I have had this UAG protector (black) on my SP4 for the better part of a year now. I work in a commercial environment so there is a lot of potential for abuse and damage. This protector has saved my SP4 from damage multiple times. After a year of daily use, its still in great shape minus a few scuffs from sharp objects. My SP still looks like the day I purchased it.

Does it cause the SP to be more bulky? Sure. What electronics protector doesn't?

Is it hard to remove? Moderately. But if you remove it CAREFULY one corner at a time and practice some patience, its no sweat. I take the protector off monthly for a thorough cleaning of the SP4 and protector and have not had any issues. Even after multiple removals, its still an excellent fit.

My only very minor complaint is that the case doesn't allow access to your expansion slot since the slot resides behind the SP easel. If you need frequent access to your expansion slot, this protector isn't for you. If you don't need access to the expansion slot, but want superior damage protection, this fits the bill.

It fits the Surface Pro 3 with a few exceptions. . .
by Jorge (5 out of 5 stars)

The answer to the question that some of you might have! Yes it fits the Surface Pro 3! The only problems are that on the USB port side, the rubber kinda covers a portion of the port. Nut it's a fixable problem, just cut the little portion of the rubber. And the other side where the volume rocker is placed, the cover actually covers it (sorry for the redundancy) because on the Pro 4 the volume is next to the power button, but you can still press the volume buttons even if the are covered!

It feels sturdy in the hand The unit seems to offer protection ...
by Chris (4 out of 5 stars)

It feels sturdy in the hand The unit seems to offer protection all the way around, even if I place my surface face down. I was worried it might be too thick to allow the keyboard to flip around, but it seems to be a 'just right' fit and does't effect day to day usage. Of note: The pen storage has been moved to the top of the case near the camera. it sits in it's own rubberized clip.

Of note: If you have a screen protector, you may run into the same issue as I did with mine, where the contour of the case around the sides of the surface lifts up the screen protector slightly. To fix this, take a sharp razor blade and carefully trim the flash/burr on the rubber where the case contacts the computer. I had to go a little further and cut a *very small* bevel. Problem solved

I really like this case. It's a little heavy, but not uncomfortably so. There's enough material there to justify the weight.

I would've loved to give it a 5 star review, but it has a couple issues.

First is the screen protector issue I mentioned above

Second being that the top of the case near the camera is a tad flimsy. I would've liked to see a bit more support there as the case bends and peels out of the way if I pick up my computer from the top.

Third is while there is a very nice cast aluminum(?) stand, there's a plastic ratcheting mechanism to hold the foot at pre-defined angles. I would've liked to see an infinitely adjustable system like what the surface had originally. Or at least a ratchet made from something other than cheap feeling/sounding plastic. it really distracts from the quality of an otherwise very nice case

The surface uses a hybrid cooler. It will dissipate heat both passively through the body of the unit, and actively via a traditional heatsink/fan. I saw some other reviewers voicing concerns about the case acting as an insulator and causing some thermal concerns with the unit, but I haven't experienced any issues myself. Chipset temperatures are within a normal range and the fan doesn't seem to be working any harder

Stand is broken after 12 months of gentle use.
by Ray Stark (1 out of 5 stars)
January 1, 2018

Broken after 1 year of gentle use. The plastic support in the back is cracked and now cannot support the stand.

It was a good case with good solid casing but the stand is dissapointing. It is made of cheap plastic and wasn't very well designed, in terms of how it supports the stand. Seeing the design, now that I tried to fix it with a duct tape, the notch mechanism will wear out too eventually.

Also. Warning. The sharp edge of the stand can scratch your desk. It has no padding and is sharp enough to scratch a wooden desk with thin coating. A thin rubber strip on this edge would've been ideal.

For the price I have invested on this thing I expected more. It is not a cheap case and I am disappointed with this product.

Great case with solid construction. Better than the BlackBelt 2nd Degree
by K. Payne (5 out of 5 stars)
October 18, 2017

I purchased this case as well as the Kensington BlackBelt 2nd Degree Rugged Case and it is better than the Kensington in almost every way. The only disadvantage IMO, is a slight weight difference of 2.6 ounces over the Kensington, but I carry my SP4 a lot and I dont mind it.

The soft-touch materials feel great in the hand. All buttons and ports are completely functional and accessible. The keyboard easily fits and is able to fold all the way backwards. The stand, while not having complete range of motion of the native kickstand, has 6 positions - enough for virtually all viewing needs. The pen slot on the top is secure and easy to load. It looks great, feels great in the hands and is made with quality construction.

The Kensington was plasticky and the beveled perimeter dug into my fingers while holding it. The BlackBelt's alluring and very supple hand strap, was not comfortable to use and therefore useless.

The UAG is slightly portly and lacks a hand strap but you will not be disappointed. I'll update this after the first drop.
