I can't "stand" how great this is!!
by JerryJerome (5 out of 5 stars)

Perfect size for the iPad Pro which is BIG. This of course will fit any size tablet but it works really well for the weight and dimensions of the iPad Pro. Multiple viewing angles all of which lock in place by pushing the side hinge button. Soft silicone/rubber feet and holder make sure nothing gets scratched. This WILL fit a slim case too so you've got a tad bit of wiggle room. If you've upgraded to the new iPad Pro get one of these! If you've found this review helpful, please tap the "HELPFUL" button! Thanks!

Handy solid tablet stand with many angles for adjustment.
by Rob Cotrone (WeeboTech) (4 out of 5 stars)
January 30, 2016

While described as an iPad Pro stand, I purchased this to encompass all of my tablets and phones. The unit is pretty solid in it's build. There are many adjustable angles in forward or reverse mode. I tried all of my tablets, PC's and phones that would fit and it came out with flying colors.

The only one that did not fit as well in the groove was my Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 while in the Logitech Keyboard case. That particular setup is pretty bulky on it's own. The keyboard did set into the groove with the tablet hanging over it, so it still is usable.

I took a ton of pictures during the tests and I'll try to upload what helps people make a decision. I have not tried the iPad pro yet, when I receive one I'll try it out.

Tablets tested.

Surface Pro 4

Dell Venue Pro 11 with the back case cover and without. Fits both ways.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, with the Samsung case/cover. Fits

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, with the Logitech keyboard. The whole unit does not fit in the groove. When the keyboard is folded under the tablet it sits into groove with the tablet overhanging. Since the design of that keyboard/case has the tablet holders at the top, It's possible for the tablet to slide down. In reverse mode the tablet and keyboard would not sit on the roller without sliding down.

Iphone 5 with a decent card case. OK.

iphone 6plus with same type of card case. Does not fit down into the groove, Sits on top of it. Still works.

iPad 4. OK.

The unit is larger then an iphone 5, 6Plus, Galaxy note edge. I knew that going in.

Samsung Galaxy note edge.

Galaxy Note Tab 10.1 GT-8013 with Samsung smart cover case. OK.

Gechic 1303i USB powered HDMI monitor. OK, portrait and landscape (13.3")

Lenovo 14" USB Monitor. OK in portrait mode but only in one direction as the electronics block the other way. Landscape doesn't make sense as the monitor has it's own leg.

HP Split X2 tablet section. 13.3" Portrait and landscape.

Cons.
- In dealing with so many stands, the first gut reaction is to pull the leg from the main housing, i.e. until you realize it does not move freely.

You need to press a button to unlock the position.

There probably should be a sticker on the back leg reminding you to unlock the leg by depressing the button.
- When the leg is locked into a position, there is some back and forth movement. Sort of gives you the impression of a weak lock. I have not had any issue with it so far, but if I do I will update.
- I wish there were a companion neoprene or drawstring bag. my concern is always that it may scratch other items in my bag. Makes me have to pack it in a special compartment to safeguard other items.

Overall I'm very happy with it. It's a solid stand with many adjustable positions for use. I have the Gechic, Maroo, Poweradd 10,000 mah battery and Amazon basic stands as well. The TechMatte XL will probably be the one I take when I'm on the go.

The initial goal for this was for the Gechic and/or Lenovo USB monitor to sit under the curved 34" Dell at a deep angle. This giving me a work space under the larger work space. Great for dragging a youtube video under the main screen.

Other usage cases are for using the USB monitors, HP Split X2 and/or other tablets in portrait mode with solid support.

I prefer a side monitor in portrait mode for code and/or monitoring log files.

It succeeds in all my use cases so far.

I posted this review at the request of the seller to help others make an informed decision.

I received no compensation for this review.

## DO NOT BUY!! ## (Updated Review -- Second Update)
by APF (1 out of 5 stars)
June 24, 2017

Looks like other reviewers are having problems with the mechanism. Why would you make a solid aluminum stand, but not make the mechanism solid? I have had zero problems with that, though.

I prefer the Supcase Unicorn Beetle case with built-in screen protector, so I got one of those for my new 2017 iPad. I was hesitant about buying this stand for it because I was afraid the edge of the Supcase would not slip into the "lip" of the stand -- same problem one reviewer had with an Otterbox case.

Fortunately, this stand and case work well together, but I've found I prefer to lay the aluminum surface down and support the tablet by flipping up the plastic flap in the back. Works great, and is more stable that way AND I bet you could even do this with an Otterbox case...

Overall, I am quite pleased with the product and have purchased two additional ones to leave in various locations in my home. Adjust it once, and you are done.

## UPDATE ## ALERT ## UPDATE ## ALERT ##

I bought three of these and have had them a total of four months. One down, two to go. Sat down at my desk the other day and discovered the plastic piece now moves freely without pushing in the button on the left side. I disassembled the entire thing to find out what had happened.

Imagine if you will a steel rod with a plastic doohickey glued to one end. The end of the doohickey resembles a gear, and its narrow body is like a tube with four long narrow tabs on it that are meant to move left-to-right within guide slots in the large movable plastic piece when you press the "button" on the left side. This in turn disengages the "gear" from an inset in the main aluminum component, allowing you to move the large plastic piece forward or backward. When you release the "button", the tabs slide left in the guide slots, and the "gear" drops back into its inset, locking the plastic piece in place.

Now imagine that you have a teenage thug in your family who takes interest in the various doodads on / in your desk, and examines them all while you're away at work. Not realizing there is a button release on the left side, yet knowing the stand is adjustable, he applies his considerable muscle until the plastic flap moves freely without pressing the button. He then shrugs his massive shoulders, sets the stand back on your desk, and goes on his merry way.

Upon disassembly, you discover that all four of the plastic tabs have broken off the doohickey and are lodged within their respective guide slots. There's absolutely no way in hell to repair the damage, nor to jury-rig a solution. The doohickey is now just a gear-shaped object with a smooth cylindrical body, and the high-quality aircraft-aluminum tablet stand you're so delighted with is now a useless piece of junk.

For three dollars more, they could have made a METAL doohickey instead of a plastic one, resulting in a tough, high-quality, delightful product. Of course, if they did that, then they'd only sell so many and no more, right? WRONG!! I was going to buy another one for work.

Remember when you were a kid, and you got a new toy and it lasted a week, and then you somehow broke a small plastic piece off of it, completely disabling it forever? As long as there's plastic, and as long as there's China, we can always revisit those wonderful days of our youth.
------------------------------------------------------------

SECOND UPDATE: Two down, one to go! I accidentally placed my computer case against one of my last two stands. Discovered later that I broke it! INFURIATING, because I know how and why it broke! Cheap, P-poor design! I feel like just busting the last one and getting it over with. It's only a matter of time!

Super Stand !
by Mark (5 out of 5 stars)
February 2, 2016

Wow, there is a lot of strength in this little package. Small in size so you can carry it around. Heavy enough to balance the weight between a iPad mini to the iPad Pro. Folds up for quick storage or for the people on the go with their tablets. Push button hinge to adjust for multi-angle adjustments. Has little rubber pads to protect your iPads, iPhones, or tablets etc.
In my case, i have tested with the iPad 1 (First Generation), iPad air, iPad Pro, iPhone 6 & 6s and amazon's fire 7" Tablet. All with case covers except the iPhone 6 & 6s (they both have protective back case cover but no screen protector). They all fit, with their cases on, inside the groove of the stand. It is a snug fit but each tablet and phone fits.
Now with that said, with the tablets in portrait mode the case screen cover will have to swing out to the side (like a book) for it to fit inside the groove. If you fold the screen case cover behind the tablet, it will not fit as well, and more likely sit on the lip of the groove. In landscape mode, you can swing the case cover over or behind the rear of the stand (looks better this way) with no problem. Once again if you fold the case cover behind the tablet (landscape mode) it will sit on the lip of the groove.
If you do decide to fold the covers behind the tablet just remember it will not be as sturdy and the multi-angle positioning will not apply. I have tried the stand with and without cases. Without the cases (LOOKS REALLY PROFESSIONAL THIS WAY), there is no problem with any of the the tablets I have mentioned, either in portrait or landscape mode. No problems with iPhones either.
Just a really stand for the price!

Elegant, Practical Stand
by Vivian SB (5 out of 5 stars)

Don't let the economical price fool you, the TechMatte XL-size stand is a great product, perfect for the iPad Pro models. This is not a flimsy, lightweight stand, it has some heft to it which makes it sturdy and stable and securely supports the iPad vertically as well as horizontally. It is elegantly designed with a sleek modern look which complements the iPads. The stand adjusts to several angles and they lock in place with the release button on one end of the top bar. While taking photographs, the stand is very handy for maximum stability. There is a firm cushion in the bottom lip and bumpers on all areas that come in contact with the iPad and with any surface the stand is used on - these keep the stand and the iPad from slipping and protect from scratches. I have an Apple Silicone Case on my iPad and it fits in the lip of the stand perfectly. Overall a well-designed, well-made product.

iPad Pro + Apple case and Smart Cover fit just fine. Very nice.
by Gary (5 out of 5 stars)
March 20, 2016

Seems very sturdy. Looks good. Nice choice of angles. My iPad Pro plus the Apple silicone case and with the Smart Cover folded back all fit perfectly into the slot. But there's no room left, so if your case/cover totals out thicker than the Apple version, it probably won't fit. That would likely apply to only heavier, very protective case/covers, I think. One caveat: changing the angle requires a solid push of the button on the left hand side of the hinge, as shown in the instruction booklet. I could see how someone, not having read the instructions, could break off the support trying to force it. I gave it a couple of pulls myself before I surrendered and read the instructions. Happily, I did no damage. Early on, this looks like a good product at a reasonable price.

The stands build quality appears to be good. This product would be fine for a Fire ...
by Randy Z. (1 out of 5 stars)
December 31, 2016

I bought this for my wife's iPad Pro 12.9. This is a very small stand. I feel it is barely suitable when the tablet is viewed in the landscape orientation due to the tablets size. In portrait, the tablet is more than double the height of the stands back. If you are touching the top of the tablet and depending on the force used, the tablet can be come unstable (flip out of the stand).

The stands build quality appears to be good. This product would be fine for a Fire 8 or smaller Ipad. The advertising claim that it suitable for the iPad 12.9 is misleading.

Not really what I expected
by johnald (3 out of 5 stars)
June 1, 2016

This review is for the TechMatte Multi-Angle Aluminum Stand XL:

I hadn't read the product description carefully enough to understand the significance of "one touch button". What this means is that there's this really stiff button you have to press in order to adjust the angle. The words "endless adjustments" is a little misleading because within that 270 degree range, the stand locks into certain preset angles. It's not like a Microsoft Surface Pro where you can adjust its stand to exactly whatever angle you want without a button. If you have an iPad Pro (12.9") on this stand, you will most likely want to pull off the iPad first and then dig your finger into the stiff button so that you can choose from one of the preset angles.

Also, the "non slip" grip tabs are not that effective. It's like a really smooth/hard rubber and even when I place this product + my iPad on a marble counter, it still manages to slip around when I type via touchscreen. Fortunately I will not be using this stand when writing on the iPad (with a stylus) because I really don't think it would work well for that purpose.

Finally, this is a fairly heavy stand for what it is and what it's meant to do. Considering all the other stuff I need to carry in my backpack when I walk around, the extra weight of this product sort of makes me wish I had purchased a cheaper alternative that was made entirely of plastic (and lighter). Sure the aluminum looks nice, but the part that pivots out is actually made of plastic so the aluminum doesn't add much practical value in the ruggedness of this stand.

Overall, the stand works but it wasn't quite what I expected. I distinctly remember looking at 2 stands made by 2 different brands and I went with the more expensive one (Techmatte) because I assumed I was paying for a higher quality product. But ultimately, I don't think you'd be worse off with a cheaper alternative if money is an issue.

Handy Stand - Not So Handy
by L. White (1 out of 5 stars)
January 8, 2018

Second Update - This was my second and last stand. The button failed again. This time all by itself. The inner workings are obviously cheap. A stand like this should last year's, not a couple of weeks. I'm very disappointed.

Update, well that didn't last long. The plastic parts are a bit of a problem. I accidentally leaned on it one time (I rolled over it in bed) and the mechanism that locks it into place completely collapsed. My bad, but I've learned the hard way to be more careful with it. I've ordered a new pne because my original assessment still stands, but wanted to warn you to ne careful.

Original Review:

This is a great little stand! I was looking for something to use in bed with my Kindle HD 10 and am very pleased with how stable it is in portrait or landscape even on soft surfaces. It is fully adjustable and can be used at even steep angles without worrying that it will topple over. I've also used it with my iPad 2 and my Kindle HDX 7 with no issues. It's advertised that it's made of heavy aluminum, which is partially true. The kickstand (thr part that actually holds the weight) is actually made of sturdy plastic. Still, this stand is designed to support tablets, which aren't very heavy, so I don't foresee this being an issue. It has a button that you have to push in order to change the angle of the stand. It's very stiff and I have to use both hands in order to do it. It's a little annoying, but it also makes me think that the spring catch is very sturdy and will last a long time. My favorite part is that it's small and folds completely flat, so it can take everywhere. The photos show it with my HD10 at work (hard surface), but it works equally well snuggled up in bed (soft surfaces)

Quite nice. Will be interested in other designs for iPad Pro.
by Robert Livingston (4 out of 5 stars)
December 30, 2015

No complaints. I use it with iPad version 2 and iPadPro. Like it well enough that got one for brother for Xmas.

For me, the iPadPro really benefits from such a stand. I use it for reading and watching video in the stand. Love it.

I can put it in portrait mode and still stable, but I get a little nervous in this configuration.

Problem is that as the iPad is put more "vertical" then an inadvertent bump can have it fall forward out of the stand onto the desk or table or counter. I have it on a table with a table cloth, and I suspect that it would survive such an episode. If I used it on a marble counter, for example, I would take the effort to put it on some kind of "cushion" if only a piece of cloth.

This design will inevitably have this problem. There is nothing that "locks" the iPad onto the stand and even if there were, there is nothing to really prevent stand and iPad from tumbling forward if "hit" from behind. This risk is magnified when using an iPadPro in portrait mode.

I might be interested in a stand that did lock an iPad onto it AND which had a geometry that would prevent falling forward but it would be a more complex and entirely different design.
