Goes the extra mile in destinking 6 year old leather Birkenstocks.
by Colin (5 out of 5 stars)
May 8, 2018

This product is exactly what I needed to finally get the stink out of my beloved 6 year old leather Birkenstocks. They had gotten to the point where they were so smelly that I stopped wearing them for a year and when I went back to them, they were just as bad as before.

I decided enough was enough and went to try and destink them.

First, I washed them with an antimicrobial soap using a scrub brush, then let them dry in the sun.

Next, I took a spray bottle with viniger, teatree oil, sage oil, and seaweed oil and spritzed them down and allowed them to dry in the sun again.

It wasn enough, so the third thing I did was let them sit in an antifungal powder overnight. They were much better, but not quite back to wearable.

Finally, I tried the Lumi Shoe Spray and let them dry in the sun, for good measure, I used the Lumi Powder and let it sit overnight once they had dried off.

Not only did it take the old, smelly Birkenstock sandals the final mile of deodorizing, leaving them stink free, it went the extra mile and left them smelling fresh.

I wish I had this back when I was living in a dorm because my sandles stunk the whole place up so nobody wanted to visit until I took them home.

Now, after a week of heavy use (applying the Lumi Powder from time to time), I can stick my nose in them and all I smell is lemongrass and leather; no foot stank present at all.

Definately going to use this stuff on a regular basis to prevent the stink from coming back.

MIND BLOWN

Even with the great reviews, I was convinced there was no way this would touch the stank in my sons shoes. These shoes... while headed to town as a family we were struck with the stench, we turned the car around, drove 10 min back to the house, chucked them into the yard & went to buy new shoes (which also stunk after 1 wearing) He lost the new shoes 3 days in, just in time for my order to arrive. I was forced to try this with the nasty yard shoes. O. M. G. One soak in this stuff & the smell was GONE! I sniffed hard to find that underlying stank that I was sure was there. Gone. He's been wearing the newly revived demon shoes for a week at summer camp, spraying every day before he puts them on, smell is still GONE. Completly! I bought a powder too but haven't even used it because this works so well. It has a strong herbal/eucalyptus type smell but that fades and it smells clean anyways. THANK YOU!!

Great at reducing odors, but make sure you aim the wide spray in your shoe.

This spray has a really pleasant smell and definitely helps with sneaker odor.

Note that it's spray is a bit wide, so you really need to get the sprayer in the shoe. I turn my shoe upside down and stick it in so that the bottle can remain right side up. If you do that, one spray is all you need in each shoe to kill odors.

You really need to spray before and after each time you wear your shoes to maintain the odor suppression.

Had to replace my shoes
by K (1 out of 5 stars)

I previously purchased a different product on Amazon that has worked great but it is no longer being sold so I tried the Lumi spray. Lumi has a very strong smell that doesn't dissipate in any reasonable amount of time (I'm talking weeks). I felt like everywhere I went I reeked of Lumi odor. It was so bad that had to replace the two pair of shoes that I sprayed with Lumi. They are nice shoes, so it cost me about $300 to replace them. I definitely would never buy this product again.

This crap smells worse than my shoes!!!
by Michael (1 out of 5 stars)

I know essential oils are supposed to prevent the measles and cure cancer...but OMG this stuff smells worse than my shoes. It's a horrible chemical smell, a smell not found in nature. Also, the spray goes everywhere but inside my shoe. Seriously if my dog took a crap inside my shoe, and I put that shoe behind the dryer and ran it for 3 days...it would still smell better than this garbage. Garbage, that would also smell better than this. Seriously don't try to be fancy and just use Lysol.

Stink-be-gone.
by AK HOUSTON (4 out of 5 stars)

I live in a dorm, currently, and I have come to realize that I do not love socks when I am running around campus. I just don't. But I've come to find that in my socks' absence, foot-stink has sought to stick to my poor feet and shoes instead, and BOY is it clingy. I really tried to hide it, hiding my shoes in my closet area, hiding my shoes under my desk, and then one day forgetting to hide them, I come back into my dorm and the first thing my roommate says to me is, "Those shoes stink. They smell like corn chips."

Needless to say, I took to amazon that night.

So I got this, and same day I spray them in my shoes, the smell dies down--and replaces the original. I swear, my whole room smelt like it. I like the smell, an almost minty musk of eucalyptus and clove. But if you hate those things this product is not for you. Either way, my shoes didn't smell ( I can still smell the stink a little if I get my nose in there, but it's a far cry from the stank it once was.

I also sprayed it on my feet. I was a little concerned about some comments saying how it burned them when spilled, but I haven't experienced that. My feet smell like nice feet now. I like it.

and it works best for shoes that are newer for me of course ...
by Brooke O. (4 out of 5 stars)

It works, and it works best for shoes that are newer for me of course rather than the shoes I have been wearing the past year. Those little slip on ballet flats chicks wear with no socks, well mine get pretty funky after a while (I wont lie). I like that this has witch hazel and tea tree oil to kill bacteria. It does have a medicinal smell, but I like that, it makes me feel like the germs that live in my shoes are being vanished!

I was starting to feel bad for her school mates because even with her shoes ...

I have a 2nd grader who has the stinkiest sneakers in the world even though she always wears clean socks. After trying all kinds of things at home: baking soda, tea-tree oil, washing in vinegar etc, I was starting to feel bad for her school mates because even with her shoes on the stink was terrible. I ordered this stuff on a whim along with another, more popular brand, and this stuff is AMAZING. After one night of spray her shoes can live in the house again (we were airing them on the porch every night). I have since used it on everybody's shoes because I love it. I know it's a little expensive, but it is so worth it.

No more stinky heels!
by Sara Spaedy (5 out of 5 stars)
March 16, 2019

I work in an office and I have an assortment of high heels I wear to work. I love buying new ones because (a) who doesn't love new shoes, and (b) they don't stink like the old ones! You can't really wear socks with stiletto pumps. It just doesn't look right. I'd wear the stinky shoes anyway, but I was always really self conscious thinking everyone could smell the stinky foot smell and know it was me! Finally I decided to do something about it, and I'm SO GLAD I did!!

I have used essential oil toilet spray for years and it's wonderful, so I figured there had to be a similar product for other stinks. I went with this particular brand because it was "EXTRA STRENGTH" and eucalyptus and tea tree oil seemed like a good neutral-ish fragrance for feet/shoes. (I don't want, like, vanilla cinnamon feet... or maybe I do...?)

At first I thought the lemon/clove element of the spray was a little overwhelming, but it's either getting absorbed/blending better now, or I'm just getting used to it, because it seems more mild. For the first couple days I sprayed all of the shoes in my closet once or twice (3-4 pumps in each shoe, all along the foot bed). Now I just spray the shoes I wore once I take them off at the end of the day.

It doesn't appear to be damaging the shoes. I don't see any residue. I haven't had any reactions to the spray.

I can't emphasize enough that the gross foot smell is GONE. It's GONE. Not one whiff remains!! And, obviously, my feet don't stink when I take them out of the shoes. Everyone's lives are improved. Stop suffering! Stop subjecting your friends, family, coworkers, and pets to your B.O.! I'm excited to find even more uses for this spray!

Love it! Spray pattern is a little off for use with shoes.
by Goose (4 out of 5 stars)

I prefer the scent of this spray over the two other natural deodorizers I've purchased through Amazon. The others were extremely mint based, which was ok, but Lumi balances the strong mint scent with what I think is mainly eucalyptus. Only gripe from me is that the nozzle sprays a super fine and wide mist and doesn't easily shoot the fluid deep into the toebox of footwear. The spray pattern is more appropriate for misting a room, which is what I end up doing while trying to use this product for my shoes! Focus that nozzle a little bit and we're talking five stars for sure.
