Product Description

The Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion battery charges faster and works longer than standard lithium-ion batteries, giving you and your cordless tools unmatched performance and productivity to take on the most demanding applications. The Makita 5.0 Ah battery has a category-leading charge time of only 45 minutes, so it spends more time working and less time sitting on the charger. The 18V LXT 5.0Ah battery (BL1850) is compatible only with Star Protection tools, indicated by the Star Symbol and/or Yellow Battery Receiver under the tool. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries resist self-discharge so they’re ready for use even after long periods of storage. The Makita Rapid Optimum Charger (sold separately) is a smart-charging system that communicates with the battery during the charging process to monitor current, voltage and temperature. This advanced charging technology helps optimize battery life and deliver a faster charge. In addition, the Charger has a built-in fan to cool the battery for faster and more efficient charging, even in hot weather conditions. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created STAR Protection Computer Controls. STAR Protection is communication technology that allows the tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. Makita, the innovation leader in cordless tool technology, has the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18V lithium-ion slide-style battery.

Features

  • Provides up to 65 Percent more run time per charge compared to the 18V 3.0Ah battery (BL1830)
  • Compatible only with Star Protection tools, indicated by the Star Symbol and/or Yellow Battery Receiver under the tool
  • Reaches a full charge in 45 minutes or less on the Makita Rapid Optimum Charger (sold separately)
  • Battery delivers constant power and run time in extreme temperatures, even in winter ( 4 F/ 20 C)
  • Impact resistant outer case and shock absorbing inner liner are engineered to protect the battery

These are BL1850B-2 batteries with Charge Level Indicators
by Issaquah Washington (5 out of 5 stars)

Like many other reviews, I'm happy to say that I received genuine Makita BL1850B-2 batteries with the Charge Level Indicators.

Like all B series batteries, these have the "Star" molded into the top of the battery which means that if your Makita tool has the star, you'll have protection from overloading, over-discharging and overheating.

The only other point of interest is that I recently bought a new Hammer Driver-Drill/Impact Driver XT268T Combo Kit, which included two BL1850B Batteries that were manufactured in Korea. Whereas these batteries are manufactured in Singapore. Otherwise, they are identical.

Six... maybe even seven stars

So these are actually different from the ones advertised, these are the upgraded newer versions. Believe me I am not disappointed. They charge up fast, they hold a charge and have a good long run time. I will never complain about a company delivering something better than promised. ***update*** so I have had these a while now, I had one in my work truck with the first and only charge on it since I bought it. I literally just built an entire deck after having used the battery in the driver for a few months of light use fixing up the rental house. These are amazing. It does need charged now, but I am impressed with how much battery life these truly have. 10 stars.

Very Pleased!!!!
by Edward Smith (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought two of these batteries, So far I am very pleased with them. This means I am not waiting for a battery to charge when one of them has died.. The one strange thing so far I wonder about is when the battery gets low it just stops working... The smaller ones I would take and put a clamp on the trigger to run as much of the last bit of stored energy off them as possible? These just stop working completely.

So far I have been using them in the cold and they have held up nicely. The temperature I have been working in is from 28 degrees and above and like I said they have worked very well.

Does not fit!
by Byron B Flateland (1 out of 5 stars)
June 10, 2019

Despite being absolutely identical in all other aspects of appearance to my old batteries that fit, these new batteries contain an extra flange that prevents them from being inserted into my Makita power tools. After four days, no response from seller, so I will need to return them.

Worth the extra $$ over off-name brands

I'm a professional contractor and use Makita cordless tools a LOT. Sure, you can find cheaper batteries that will work in your Makita tools, and I've tried some myself. However, the generic batteries lack the Makita circuitry that helps prevent "cooking" the battery under heavy use. (Don't ask me how I know this!) The generics also lack the remaining charge indicators -- a VERY useful feature. Over the life of the battery, definitely worth paying a bit more to get s lot more battery.

better than advertised

I was expecting to get the old style batteries without the power level indicator, but the one I received are the new style with the power level indicator. Great price, and they work in my 4 year old Makita compact 18V tools.

More power!
by Zack (5 out of 5 stars)

Finally 5.0amp hr batteries! They last forever and go strong. However first time I charged and used them they didn't last very long but then they work fine after that. Like the internal computer recent once they were charged or something.

One complaint is they will not fit all makita 18v tools. ESP the ones that really eat up my batteries. Like my cordless grinder and circular saw. If I updated to the newer saw or grinder I know they will work but the weid part is they fit my drill and impact that is 10 years old.

This is not 5.0Ah

Its worse than my original 3.0Ah. Short battery life even full charged. Do not buy!!

Excellent upgrade from 3.0 Batteries
by RickZ (5 out of 5 stars)
January 12, 2017

For power hungry Makita tools such as saws, blowers, or vacuums, this is your best choice for a battery upgrade. The best part is these batteries weigh the same as the BL1830 3.0 Batteries, so your drill and impact drivers will have the same balance and feel in your hand.

Got BL1850B-2 instead of BL1850-2
by Tom H. (5 out of 5 stars)
September 12, 2017

They shipped the newer BL1850B-2 batteries, with the level indicator LEDs. So it was a bonus? My old 3.0Ah batteries lasted 8 years, hopefully these will too.
