Porous - otherwise good

This item soaks up oil from meat which then leaches out over time. I hardly ever write reviews, but this silicone rack frustrates me. We clean it thoroughly, run it through the top rack of the dishwasher and then store it in a drawer. It is perfectly clean. When we next pull it out, it has sweated a thin layer of oil that it soaked up during roasting. No matter how thoroughly it is cleaned, it sweats out oil over time. If it wasn't porous, it would be perfect.

Great Tool for Crockpots

Works great in my crockpot to smoke meat. It sits perfect on the 2 ramekins to keep the meat above the juices. You fill ramekins with 1/.2 inch of liquid smoke and put your favorite rub on the meat. 6 to 8 hours later dinner. I use it to roast country style ribs, wings, pork or beef roast for pulled meat. I also use a stainless steel version that is shaped differently.

Great Item! Versatile kitchen essential.

OMG! What a great find! We had a 16 lb prime rib to cook for Christmas in our Traeger smoker/grill. Husband intended to cook it directly on the grill but I needed the drippings. The only pan big enough would be one of the disposable aluminum roasting pans, but setting the meat directly on the pan would prevent it from getting the smoke all around the meat. We needed a roasting rack big enough for this caveman-sized piece of meat. Didn't want metal racks of any type since they are such a pain to clean and would likely poke through the aluminum pan. Saw these and ordered two to give it a try. SOOO glad we did. Used one on Christmas eve with a 5lb pork loin just to test it -- worked really well. Then Christmas day we used two of them end-to-end in the aluminum pan and set the hunk-o-prime-rib on it. Perfect! They cleaned up easily. And while making breakfast this morning, discovered that they work pretty well as a trivet, too. Will probably use it for steaming large items and crockpot cooking, too. Surprisingly versatile item.

EZ to use/Work GREAT/recommend getting 2!

Overall really happy w/this.

Really quite sturdy-especially considering that they are constructed of silicone only.

Wash well & I love the benefits & ease of using silicone products for cooking so I think these are a pretty great concept.

I have seen the laurel wreath type design for a similar product & like this rectangular NorPro one better. (Plus I think this design is easier to clean)
I had purchased only 1 of these originally & came back for a 3rd one when the price finally fell back down again. (I checked often & waited patiently & ended up getting the second one for $2 less than the 21st even. Both were south of $10)

For anything larger than a rotisserie chicken, 1 really is not large enough... (& that's w/putting in some effort to get the chicken situated just right on top of the rack.)
I've seen these advertised & talked about elsewhete online & the photos usually show 2 of these placed side by side in your average sized roasting pan. Now having received my 2nd one & having used 2 together I can fairly say that these roast BEAUTIFULLY & do EXACTLY what they are supposed to do.

I'm really pleased w/my purchase!

Would Definitely Buy Again; considering buying a second one

Small footprint, so it fits into many pans. Purchased bc I thought it would be easier to clean than wire racks, WHICH IT DEFINITELY IS, but it's not as easy to clean as expected. Still has to soak and scrub the old fashioned way, but there are fewer surfaces to get dirty so that's a plus. May be just a little more challenging to rid it of grease- have not cleaned it the dishwasher, so this issue might resolve itself.

I do like that it doesn't get too hot to remove immediately so I can get that soaking started ASAP. It also doesn't stick to the roast like most metal racks will.

It raises your roast up a good inch, and seems like it is sturdy enough to hold up twenty pounds (or more?), though I haven't put it to that test. Thanksgiving is coming, so will revisit this rating if it fails.

In the aggregate, a very good purchase.

Not so hot.

These look great, but not so great to use. They were slipping all over the pan, when I had my turkey on them and was trying to work with it. After I finished cooking and it was time to clean, had a tough time. It was hard to clean as grease and food stuck to the rack. Had to soak in VERY hot warpter with soap over night and even THEN had to scrub very hard to get clean. Will stick to regular old rack.

Wonderful

Wonderful roasting rack by Norpro. As it is silicone I was concerned it might not be strong enough. One rack handles a chicken, meatloaf, Cornish hens, etc. Two racks would handle larger foods such as ham, turkey, roast beef, etc. It cleans up in a flash. It takes up less storage space than most racks. I recommend it.

Great 4 Roasts - Many Other Uses, Too!
by KC Green (5 out of 5 stars)

Value of these racks extend beyond baking or roasting. Sure, they're great, for Chickens, Turkeys, Fish, or Beef Roasts, but also provide perfect support for steaming in a slow cooker, or as a trivet. I use two vertically to support frozen portions of food (vacuum sealed, or otherwise) in a pressure cooker, or pan. It promotes quick cooking without need to clean the racks, afterwards.

When roasting, these racks elevate meat perfectly for uniform cooking, producing marvelous flavors. Another tip: placing racks in warm soapy water immediately after cooking, breaks down oils enabling quicker cleaning. I love these racks and use mine frequently. If you appreciate quality and versatility.. you'll love Norpro Rectangular Racks.

A Kitchen Winner

Silicone has become my friend in the kitchen. Little by little I am getting silicone utensils as the old ones wear out. This fits my 11.5" x 9" Pyrex baking dish perfectly. I typically oven roast chicken pieces; thighs and am amazed how much better the chicken cooks / tastes without sitting in all the fat drippings. The Norpro is very well made and is fairly thick so it will last a long while. I do not have a dishwasher but think it would be a lot easier to clean in one. I usually just let it soak for a bit in Dawn and hot water and it cleans up well. Highly recommend.

Just get a metal roasting rack
by say what (2 out of 5 stars)
November 15, 2019

I wanted to buy this silicone rack because I don't have a lot of space in my house, and this looked easy to store, and it is. But that's where the benefits stop. It's pretty flimsy, I accidentally cut through one of the "grates" while carving a chicken. Additionally, it doesn't raise your roast very high, so something like a 5lb chicken will just stay soggy on the bottom as it marinates in its own juices instead of getting crispy. It's very hard to clean. I will pre-wash by hand and then run through the dishwasher, and it still feels greasy after. I ended up buying a metal roasting rack because I hated this thing so much.
