.Great 8mm Goal Zero Extension Cableby D.Everett (5 out of 5 stars)

If you own Goal Zero products such as solar panels or power banks, this cable is a must. It has a male 8mm connector on one end and a female 8mm connector on the other end. The cable thickness is around 14 gauge size. It is an adequate size cable so that excessive heat loss really won't be a factor. Using this cable allows flexible positioning of the solar panel away from my Goal Zero Yeti 400, and plugs directly into the Yeti 400 and into Goal Zero Boulder 100 solar panel briefcase. I have several of these cables, and I really see no noticeable difference in input voltage to the Yeti 400 using this cable versus a shorter cable. This cable can also be attached to solar panels other than Goal Zero by using adapters that go from 8mm to whatever is on the other brand of solar panel probably MC4. Adapters are sold that go from 8mm to MC4 and 8mm to Anderson Powerpole.
Does the job, but could be more efficient.

The connecting plugs are pretty solid. The cable is strong, but my concern with this cable, as with all Goal Zero 12 volt cables, is the gauge of the wire and the power losses from the solar panel to the power pack. The cable in this case is not very thick. Goal Zero themselves have said that you can see up to a 1% loss of power PER FOOT of extension cable, meaning that this cable could take up to 30% of the power outputting from your solar panels through transmission loss in the cable.
Goal Zero makes PORTABLE solar power solutions, and as such this cable is a compromise between a bulky, heavy, thicker gauge cable that would not lose much power but would be cumbersome to carry, and a lighter cable that is easier to pack in a back pack for example.
Very lossy particularly for high amperage systems.

This cable is OK for short runs, but be warned that according to Goal Zero, this cable can lose up to 1% PER FOOT! If you need longer than 30 feet DO NOT daisy chain additional cables. This is 16 AWG gauge wire and is very lossy. For longer runs I would recommend 10 or 12 AWG cable with MC4 connectors and the Goal Zero MC4 adapter cable.
It looked like a genuine Goal Zero cable

For some reason this cable did not work. It looked like a genuine Goal Zero cable, came in a Goal Zero looking bag with header card, but it would not work with my Goal Zero Boulder 30 panel and my Yeti 400. I also tried this cable with a Sherpa 100, and it still did not work, so I returned it.
Keep your panels in the sun and your Batteries in the shade!

This is a terrific addition to my solar recharging system for the Goal Zero Yeti. I can place the panels in the sun while keeping the battery system in a shaded, sheltered area, away from passing weather, direct sunlight, dust and insects. The battery system needs to stay cool. Plus, the wire folds up tightly enough to go into the storage compartment in the top of my Yeti 1000 so there's no trouble keeping it handy.

Bought this product to keep a distance between my solar panels and my power station. It does a good job for that but, there is a loss of transferred power. This is to be expected due natural degradation for wire loss. The longer the wire, the greater the signal loss. So, with that in mind, it is a great cable to have for extending the range of your power station from your solar panels.

Does what it is meant to with minimal fuss. Perfect for optimizing the placement of your panel. As a side not, the Goal Zero panels I have rarely put out even close to what their stated output is. I have finally landed on using one of the 100 Watt rigid panels for my Yeti 400 battery.
Extend Your Solar Reach

This is a good item to have if your Yeti is going to be placed a distance from the solar panels. However, know that just as it takes time for water to reach the end of the water hose, having to transfer solar power through a 30ft cord will do the same. However, I don't think that is such an important point as the DIY solar panel system I put on my roof on the house I sold required the solar energy to travel from the roof to the battery bank and inverter which were more than 30 feet from the panels. I maintained a continual run of solar power using long extension cables with no problem and you can do the same with this extension cable.

Arrived and worked fine with my Allspower solar unit. Only 60 watts but still helps charge my goal zero.
Works but not the best solution

Low gauge wire leads to a lot of line loss. After trying this out I would have rather bought the connectors and provided my own wire.
