High quality looking product after installation and the brushed nickel goes very well with all the other brushed nickel fixtures in my bathroom. Very simple to install. The push and click clips on this fixture to keep it locked into place are very easy to use, just pull out and they clamp right down. The manufacture gives you a round template to put on the ceiling, then trace around with a pencil, cut out the drywall and this unit pops right in. This unit is not UL approved, but IT IS CSA approved, so it is very, very safe. I actually think CSA is more stringent then UL. For those who don't know what CSA is...... Canadian Standard Association. I purchased some Romex 15 FT 14/3 indoor wire and connected this recessed light to a current fan/light in the bathroom. ***MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE POWER OFF TO THE ROOM YOUR ARE WORKING IN, OR YOU COULD SEE ANOTHER WHITE LIGHT ALONG WITH HEAVENS GATES*** So now when I turn on the exhaust fan light this new Globe Electric light in the shower comes on. It is very bright and because I put an LED bulb in, it barely uses any power.

Good, But Not for Showers

These lights are well-built and look great. However, as many others have noted, they are NOT damp-rated. That claim is just a lie. They do not include any kind of waterproofing gasket, and shower spray could certainly get into the housing. If you didn't need to put one above a shower, they would rate 5 stars. One of the three I bought was to be located above a bathtub, and I went ahead and installed it there. But if it had been a shower, I would have had to return them.

Let there Be Light in My Shower!

I purchased this because my shower was way too dark! It was very easy to put in, but I am a handyman, but in my opinion a novice person can install this with little issue. I wired my light into the exhaust fan, so when I turn on my fan this light comes on. I found that the easiest way since the electrical is already there. Only downside is that you can't use the dimming function, but I do not use that function since I installed it for the light not the dimmable feature. I had some 3-wire left over from a project and used that to wire this light. I wired the light before I installed it. Just made it easier and cut my time down I had to spend in the attic! Wiring is simple, just match the colors and use wire connectors. Provides a template circle to draw onto the ceiling so you can cut it out. I suggest putting a hole from inside your shower and then cutting it out from attic. This allows you to avoid 2x4 boards holding up drywall. Slide light through hole and then go in attic and push down clamps to secure. Turn off power exhaust fan and remove plate from fan that allows access to wires. Find the wires that run fan and attach dark colored wire to fan wire, white to white and the ground wire to ground. The ground wire has no plastic coating on it. reattach the wire plate and you are good to go! If you use LED bulb, you can throw insulation right on light without it getting hot and being a fire hazard which would be a problem with a halogen bulb! Great for remodeling, we used it in our bathroom. We cut new holes and ran wires from an existing light to can light.

A trick to keep a lot of insulation from falling down when you cut a hole in the ceiling; before you start get a vacuum cleaner that can blow air, as you finish the cut do not remove the the cutout, instead use the vacuum cleaner hose to blow the insulation back away from the hole as you slowly remove the ceiling plug you cut out. This gives you a clear hole to put the new light in and blows the insulation back into the attic instead of on the floor.

These are described as "shower rated," but lack the actual gasket to protect the bulb. This means water can get in, and short these out. Which can be, well, fatal.

They are described as "IC rated" (i.e. able to be placed in an insulated ceiling) but are...not. There's no such thing (I'm told by an actual qualified electrician) of being "conditionally" IC rated based on the bulb - it's built well or it won't. Ours CONSTANTLY cut out in our insulated ceiling because they're not ACTUALLY rated for this usage.

Claiming to be electrically rated for conditions you're not ACTUALLY rated for is not only fraudulent, it's immensely negligent. Amazon shouldn't sell these. They certainly shouldn't allow the manufacturer to claim their safe for certain uses that they're not actually safe for.

We had these installed for a week before we were advised to replace them. Don't put these in your house.

I installed this over my tub/shower and it looks great. The picture is a little misleading in that the ceiling plate is actually polished chrome not white which is what I thought it was based on the image (the description does say chrome). My bath has polished chrome hardware so this light fit right in to the look of the bathroom. My only complaint is that the halogen bulb that is included is not bright enough. I found a great LED bulb (50w equiv) that is much brighter and works perfectly (link below). Other than that, installation was a breeze and a cut-out template is included (its actually a part of the lid of the box). I'd say this is the perfect light for smaller applications at a great price.

Shower enclosure - easy install with quality finish

Easy to install. Looks very good. Unit itself feels a bit flimsy especially when dealing with 12/2 romex, but good simple mechanism to secure it in ceiling, then it is robustly in place. The face plate finish (metal and glass) is good, better than expected. They could provide bigger wire nuts instead of the tiny ones they give. I like the reduced 4" footprint, very modern, plenty of light - I used these LED bulbs:

Box is not air tight at all, so not particularly energy saving friendly, but you can mitigate it as you would any air leaks. My only concern upon reading reviews is about the damp rating: there seems to be some kind of seal between the metal and the glass.
5 stars for now, we'll see how this holds up after a few months. If it does seal against water vapor, then it's a very good quality/value item.

Not as advertised

The pictures and product details state this has an LED bulb. It is actually a halogen bulb. Also, there was no silicone gasket (as per the description) provided in the units I received. That makes it unsuitable for damp locations. The box clearly states this unit is not related IC (Insulation Contact). The description implies that it is IC compliant if an LED bulb is used. But since it ships with a halogen bulb (instead of the LED per the product details) that doesn't apply. Also the can is stamped steel, not spun aluminum as stated. It is the bulb cover in the trim that is spun aluminum.

Attractive Light

The item arrived quick, but the box was half open with no tape securing the contents. There was no template included either, but customer service was quick to email me a template - so why not put it in the box?? Installed two in the bathroom above vanity and they look nice. Two more go above the shower soon.

One thing to consider is that these LEDs are 6.5 Watts each (they touch insulation in the attic), so NOT too bright. I might need to buy 4 more to ensure the bathroom is bright enough - or - update and keep the existing above-vanity light. Either way, this light gets 4 stars, could've been 5, but..., nah!

Super easy and look great!

First of all these lights look great. They're really easy to install and the trim piece just pushes right in. Light is great and I'm definitely going to get a dimmer to go with them.
I removed 1 star because there is definitely not a template included even though the product page claims to have one. A 3 7/8" hole saw isn't very common so you'll probably be doing it free hand. I used the cardboard that the lights came in but the holes were about 3/16" too small.
Also, the wire nuts they include are really only good for a single connection to 14 gauge wire. If you're going to daisy chain them I'd recommend using one size bigger than what is provided.
