No problems with ZWO astronomical cameras
by Bill Allen (5 out of 5 stars)
April 4, 2019

I use this to attach a ZWO ASI1600 Pro camera to a USB hub, which then connects via an extension cable to the computer. The cable is long enough so that the camera can be used with several different telescopes and mounts, and I haven't had any connectivity issues or problems with transfer speed over the past few months. I've used this outdoors many times since I got it, and experienced no issues.

Quality at a fair price
by Charles R. Newman (5 out of 5 stars)

I was skeptical about buying this cable, but I decided to take a chance, and I'm happy I did. The quality appears to be very good, and the USB 3.0 was an upgrade from the USB 2.0 I previously used. I did notice a file transfer speed increase over the 2.0. The delivery of my package was speedy, and was exactly what I ordered. I would do business with this company again.

15 footer might not work first time...

Cable Matters SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Type A to B Cable in Blue 15 Feet

When I first tried this I was disappointed it didn't work. A week later I thought I'd try it again so I plugged it into a different USB 3.0 port on my PC and it did work and I've had no problem since. So if the 15 footer doesn't work the first time, try, try again and you might get lucky! BTW, I use it between my Asus PB328Q monitor with USB 3.0 hub and my PC. A very happy camper now! And like others, I like the blue color to remind me it's USB 3.0.

Need a USB 3.0 A-B extension? This is your product.
by Russell (5 out of 5 stars)

I'm a veteran customer of Cable Matters because of fantastic experience with their products in the past, and I needed a longer USB 3.0 A->B cable to extended a USB 3.0 hub to my computer. I was nervous about signal degradation across longer distances with this cable, but it turns out that it works equally well to my previously shorter cable and allows me the flexibility I need to have a USB hub further from my computer.

The quality of the cable is excellent and I can tell that I will be using it for a long time.

Would purchase again and definitely recommend! Thanks again, Cable Matters!

High quality, flexible USB 3.0 cable with consitent and reliable data transfer speed!!!
by Rob B (5 out of 5 stars)
March 31, 2016

Following my initial purchase, I have bought an additional three of these cables (in varying lengths) as the need for a USB 3.0 cable has arisen. Honestly, I was hesitant to purchase a Cable Matters product because the Cable Matters CAT 6 cables that I own have proven less than impressive. However the reviews of this cable, combined with the advertised specs/photos, and Amazon's amazing return policy convinced me to give it a chance. That was fortunate because this cable ended up exceeding my expectations!

The cable jacket is heavy and flexible, it has some weight to it but is easy to route due to the high flexibility of the material. The molded connector housings are sturdy and the connectors themselves have a tight, "snap-in" fit. They also stay in place once connected. As far as data transmission is concerned, I use this, the second of four cables I have purchased to connect a server to a 4 Bay 1U Rackmount RAID Storage Unit with USB 3.0 and eSATA interface and the data transfer speeds are lightning fast. I also use the same cable terminated in USB 3.0 micro-B (as opposed to B) to connect a High Speed 4 Port USB 3.0 Hub to a HP Pro Desk 600 desktop workstation. Again, the data transfer speeds are consistent and reliably fast.

Therefore, I would recommend the Cable Matters USB 3.0 cable in any length or termination to someone in need of an USB 3.0 cable.

Do not buy the 15ft length cable! It doesn't work!
by Ronnie F. (1 out of 5 stars)
November 18, 2018

I bought this 15ft cable to connect a SATA dual-bay to a desktop since the one it came with was too short. Right from the moment I powered on the device, I got constant disconnects and i/o errors from the docked hard drive. I then connected it to a laptop and got the same results. Finally, I swapped this cable out with the original and everything worked flawlessly.

Afterward, I did some research and found out that the maximum recommended length of a USB 3.0 cable is 9 to 10 feet. While a high quality cable can extend this length by a few more feet, this is not the case for this cable as it is clearly unable to handle 3.0 speeds. It did work when connected to a 2.0 port so it is somewhat functional just not at the higher rated speeds.

In conclusion, Cable Matters should not be selling this cable at the 15 feet length without additional testing. It may work with less demanding devices but I would no longer trust a 3.0 cable over 10 feet unless it is active.

It's a functional cable.
by Allstar (4 out of 5 stars)

You don't often see full-size USB 3.0 A-B cables. In fact, I bought this because I lost the cable to the only USB 3B device I have, a DisplayLink docking station.

This cable has been working well for me for at least a year, connecting my laptop to the docking station. I don't see any obvious defects in materials or workmanship, nor any issues in function.

I struggle to give something mundane like a USB cable a 5-star review just because...I want there to be room for the "Oh wow, how did I live without this?" factor in my review scale. Four stars here is "does exactly what I bought it for, was exactly what I was expecting, is exactly as advertised."

USB Disconnection Problem
by John C. (1 out of 5 stars)
August 14, 2019

I've been using these cables since July 2016. I use this cable for external USB two & four docks docking stations. Both the USB cables and docking stations are USB-3. I've noticed for a long time that the three drives in the docking station used for my desktop were reinitializing frequently but not enough to be a nuisance. The second docking station was deployed at a different location and stored daily backups from the PC it was attached to. I went in to inspected the backups in storage and noticed that the drive was not being seen even though the USB docking station was on. I restarted the docking station and the drive appeared. I checked the drive again the same evening and the drive was not present again. I took the drive and docking station home to test. To make a long story short the cause of the problem ended up being the "Cable Maters" USB 3 cables. Out of the 5 cables that I had purchased 1 worked randomly (on home PC), 1 worked and then would disconnect permanently (on remote location), and 3 would not work at all when tested. I disposed of all of them and installed different USB 3 cables. This happened a week ago and I've not had any more problems with USB ports disconnecting since.

Cable Matters Packaged Incorrect "Type A to Type A" Cables into Two Packages
by Roger (4 out of 5 stars)
February 11, 2015

Cable Matters packaged incorrect cables into two separate packages.

Likely an accident by Cable Matters, as I doubt when I apparently accidentally ordered two of these cables, that both packages would contain "Type A to Type A" cables instead of "Type A to Type B" cables depicted and described by this page. UPC package codes state "Type A to Type B" cables. I doubt a consumer would repackage two cables into the same bags, without breaking the seal of the packages and returning to Amazon.com -- but we all know the possibility still exists.

Upon confirmation of this error, Cable Matters stated I could re-order as no other customers wrote similar reviews to what I'm writing here. So shrugs, I'll re-order and then return.

Pros
1) Apparently good quality thick cables, when compared to generic brands
2) Apparently good connectors, when compared to generic brands

Cons
1) Confusing cable plug specifications, for which is more of a general overall issue than a specific issue with any one person. Only thing a consumer can do, make sure they receive the correct USB Type A to Type B cable.

Updated 2015.02.16: Recently ordered another one of these cables about a day after calling the issue into Amazon.com. This time, I received the correct cable. I was sort of hesitant to buy another one of these cables so soon after calling in the problem, but am mildly surprised that they did correct the issue so soon. The previous two, Amazon.com has already issued the appropriate shipping labels. Looking at the correct cable through it's clear plastic bag package, I did notice the cable and cable plugs looked extremely similar when compared to the previous two incorrectly packaged cables. So completely explainable how somebody could have miss labelled the packages by just glancing at the cables.

It Works
by Matt Hilton (5 out of 5 stars)
August 17, 2013

I needed a Type A to Type B 3.0 USB cable a little longer than what I had. The cable is flexible enough to be useful, but rigid enough to be secure. The overall craftsmanship is on par with that of more expensive cables. There are no scuffs or burs, and the connections are snug.
