Even though our bags are super tough, they’re still easy to use so you’re not fumbling around when it’s time for business. When you do head out to bag poop, we recommend matching our refill rolls with our Earth Rated leash dispenser so they're always close by.

The extra details are important to us, which is why all of our packaging and inner roll cores are made with recycled materials. Each dog poop bag measures 9 x 13 inches. They're big enough to fully cover your hand and sleeve during pickup with plenty of room left over to tie a secure knot in the bag when you're finished.

We’ve managed to make these awesome bags because we love dogs and love what we do, so we hope you'll try them and let us know if you have any feedback!

I gave five stars to a poop bag. Enough said.

I never imagined I'd grow up to write reviews of dog poop bags on the internet, yet here I am. I guess when you spend as much time as I do standing outside waiting for your dog to poop while he smells the same spot for 20 minutes, you start to think about things.

First of all, I have a dog who has what I politely like to call "anxious tummy." Sometimes people scare him in my apartment hallway, and he accidentally goes right there on the steps. In this moment, it is SUPER CLUTCH to have an easy-to-open poop bag like this one at the ready. And yes, I've noticed that a lot of poop bags are so hard to get open, which is not ideal when you're trying to clean up an embarrassing mess before your cute neighbor who you saw on Tinder rounds the corner and steps in it and you're publicly shamed because your dog can't handle his bowels.

My dog also prefers the feeling of mulch underfoot as he relieves himself. It's really hard to pick up poop from mulch without also retrieving a bunch of mulch. Wood chips and plastic bags typically don't mix, but these bad boys (or should I say good boys?) are able to handle the mulch without ripping and tearing which is awesome in my book.

Lastly, I don't typically like the smell of fake lavender, but these actually have a really nice scent that does a fairly good job of blocking scent. Great for someone like me who is astonishingly lazy and will put it in my garbage can instead of walking the 500 feet to the nearest doggie waste station. (Don't judge.) VERY IMPORTANT. (See earlier cute neighbor anecdote.)

Thank you for reading my dog poop bag review!

Grab those feces with confidence!

Is it possible to love a dog poop bag? Heck yeah! I'm a veterinarian and I have tried many brands of bags over the years but since I discovered the Earth Rated Dog Waste Bags I use no other. I use the scented bags because on long walks it kind of disguises the smell of the feces (except those that are really potent), so you don't smell like feces to any passerby. I usually prefer unscented things because I have a sensitive nose and for those inclined, Earth Rated does offer non-scented bags. The Earth Rated bags are also a bit longer than a few other brands though most are similar length. However, the bags are definitely heavier than many other brands and also have way better sealed seams as well as high quality separation perforations. The central cylinder glides easily in every brand of bag holder I have. Lastly, a small but important detail...you know that small piece of tape that holds a new roll together? Most brands use a tape that when you pull it off it puts a hole in the opposing part of the bag if you don't very carefully remove it. A hole at the top of a bag is no big deal but further down can lead to leakage. The Earth Rated tape comes off real nice and my first bag isn't destroyed. Overall a very strong, well made bag that has never let me down. It can hold any load big or small, firm or loose and will not leak or tear.

I love these bags - much thicker than the ones you buy at the store. The scent is not overpowering.

Zero shelf life

I bought a pack of these in May 2018 so I could keep rolls tucked in my cars and my dog show gear. I wasn't planning on using them all up in 3 months time. When I opened the console in my car today, bits of green stuff fell out. The roll of Earth Rated poo bags -- of which I'd used maybe one or two -- had begun to decompose. Which I realize is the point, but it makes them useless to me. Not sure if it was the heat or just time, but my car looks like someone shook out a can of green fish food inside. I want to do what's right for the planet, but I also need to know my poo bags will be there when I need one. Now I have to try and remember where I stuffed the other rolls and see if they need to be thrown away. Bummer.

Genuinely cover smell almost completely, no sickly sweet stench, durable, cheap, and biodegradable?

I am a dog walker by trade and walk everything from 9-119 pounds, so I see a lot of poop in my everyday life. Often these dogs have separation anxiety from their owner (I also house sit during their vacations etc) or are very excited, and have bad tummy troubles, which can get, just... Yeah. I started using these when one house bought them to use with their dog, instead of the plastic grocery bags they were using before- what a difference!

The smell, even before its in the bag, is so much less strong once you're unfolding the bag and getting it ready. It doesn't crinkle loudly or need to be "snapped" like some of the cheaper versions, and also unlike the clearer versions, there are gaunranteed no holes! And they're definitely big enough for even the biggest dogs! What a relief!

I felt guilty after a week of watching one particular dog, as it was me changing out the big trash bag on the can they keep the used poop bags in, and I saw just how many there are after a week! Jeez! But learning they were biodegradable and are made of simple cornstarch made me really happy- it's something to brag about, too ;)

I would recommend these to everyone, and I do, regularly. I learned only by buying these that's there's 15 per roll which is the norm, but I always thought it felt like more! These rolls fit into any poop bag holder and work great! Buy these now!

Bad in every respect!

The main reason for the one-star review is that it is practically impossible to open each bag without pawing and prying it for more than 5 minutes. The only way I succeeded in opening them is by tearing a chunk out! The bags also seem thinner and flimsier than others I have used so I had to be very careful to keep my hands clean. I bought these, in part, because I thought they were biodegradable. The "earth-friendly" illusion perpetuated by this company is nothing more than false advertising.

DO NOT BUY! Nothing green about them but the color.

After doing some extensive research the only thing eco-friendly about these bags is the recycled cardboard the box is made of they come in. The bags aren't made from recycled plastic, they are not compostable, they are not biodegradable. I know they don't made these claims but it's trickery with marketing. My Alphapet poop bags are what you're looking for. Made of cornstarch and biodegrade within a month. They even come scented if you desire. I live in SF and we do not use any plastic bags at all. So this probably bothers me more than most. But I've told all my friends with dog who were also shocked to find this out. They do make a biodegradable bag but it's white and super expensive.

Durable and definitely masks the nasty smells. FYI though, I have a 60lb dog and these bags were too

My dearest dog, as wonderful and charming as she is, can drop some gnarly solids where I have to position myself upwind to prevent myself from gagging. With regular bags, I would literally have to hold my breath from the second I would see her begin to squat until I've tossed the waste into the trash. These scented bags are very helpful for when I accidentally get a whif of that putrid stench. They don't mask it completely, but considerably. The lavender scent makes you feel a little less dirty too, considering that you're picking up poop. It'll linger on your hand for a little bit and quickly goes away once you're no longer touching the bag.

The bags are plentiful and fairly-priced. Unless you have more than 1 dog, or have a dog with an insane amount of bowel movement, 120 bags will last you a good amount of time.

I've never had an issue with tearing a bag, even when I've scooped up twigs and rocks - which is a huge plus because the I've never had a good day that starts with my finger accidentally being inserted into a warm turd because the bag ripped. Even when tearing the bag off from the rest of the roll - the perforation works well. It usually requires two hands to detach a bag, but it's never caused me to rip another bag by mistake. They're not difficult to open either - with just a little bit of friction, the edges will come apart. I have yet to come across a buggy one that was sealed on both ends.

The only issue I have is the size. I have a 60-pound dog who likes to drop off the kids at the pool all at once, if you know what I mean - I can bag up all the kids without much issue, but it's a little tricky to knot it closed without worrying about little remnants of kids on the upper portion of the bag. I would say it's a sufficient size for small-medium sized dogs. For dogs (and their poops) that are larger, you might have a little bit of concern. Eventually you'll get a good method that works for you, but this issue could be prevented with a larger bag. It's not a deal breaker for me but if I can find a larger bag that is equally sturdy and odor-masking, I would be willing to try it out before coming back to this product.

Overall, I definitely liked it but I do wish it were a bit larger.

EDIT: Yay! There are larger sized baggies! The seller has informed me of a 11"x13" sized bag that they offer (rather than the 9"x13"). The prices per bag are only about 4 cents apart, and I would very much rather pay a few cents for a bag that'll fit my poochie's poopies a little better. However, the XL bags appear to be rolled into a longer shape than the standard bags, so I'll have to replace my bag dispenser. Fortunately I crochet them myself so it shouldn't be too hard of a task (let me know if you're interested in buying any too). I've changed my original 4-star rating to 5-stars because the item description doesn't specifically say what sized poops it can/can't contain and does specify the size of the bag. It's not the item or seller's fault that my dog's turds are huge.

Best Poppy Bags Ever! I'm all for improving the poop picking experience!
by Marisela Gutierrez,Top Contributor: Pets (5 out of 5 stars)

These are so great!

From what I've gathered, these green bags are made from recycled material and have an EPI component. Unlike traditional plastic bags that never break down, this component allows them to break down in approximately 18 - 24 MONTHS. While the timing is a bit on the longer side, It's fine by me and much better than the alternative of never breaking down at all!

After I watched "Plastic Paradise" on Netflix, my perspective on using plastic entirely changed. I never knew how damaging it truly is and now, I'm just trying to do every bit that I can to create less waste. So the fact that these eventually deteriorate are a huge plus!

Also, these are very decently priced! Some of the non environmentally friendly/completely plastic products are less expensive, but only by a slim margin. So these definitely won't hurt your wallet!

As for the product itself, they're so cute. I'm a designer and I have to say, I find everything about this product to be aesthetically pleasing, which is ironic considering they are poopy bags! lol.

But seriously, the packaging itself is super cute. The baggies are also great! They are a cheery, bright green color and slightly longer than normal bags, which I find to be very useful for second pick-ups. They are also thick and very easy to open. Also, they have a lavender scent. Personally, I love lavender, so this is probably my favorite part! The lavender smell is enough to cover up the poopy smell and really makes the experience so much more tolerable. However, if you're not a fan of lavender, don't worry. The scent is far from overwhelming and definitely won't give you a headache or anything like that!

I purchased these bags along with their bag dispenser (made from the same company). They fit perfectly in there and the dispenser itself is an oval/pill shape and is also really well designed. It matches the bags with it's bright green color. I also like it's texture, which I know sounds a bit odd, but compared to other dispensers, it seems to have a really nice/well made quality to it. The dispenser also comes with a velcro strap on which I find works great for my retractable leash!
However, if you already have a bag dispenser, I'm sure these bags will work find with that. While, they are a bit longer, they aren't so much longer that they won't fit into another dispenser type.

Overall, I really enjoy these bags and I really do appreciate that they took a little time on adding a few extra "bells and whistles" with the fun packaging, color, and lavender scent. Who knew that poop picking could be improved?! haha. :)

Clarification about biodegradability - they DO BREAK DOWN
by JoeDel (5 out of 5 stars)
September 19, 2013

A lot of people have been posting 1 or 2 star reviews because they claim the bag is not biodegradable. So I sent the company an email, and this was their reply:

Gen Loyer replied:

Hi ___,

Thank you for contacting Earth Rated PoopBags!

According to updated regulations in the US, only a 100% renewable resource, such as our compostable bags, may be considered truly biodegradable.

However, our green bags have an EPI additive which allows them to break down unlike traditional plastic bags and have been tested to break down in approximately 18-24 months in a bioreactor landfill.

We hope this helps clarify any concerns you may have had.

Should you have any further questions, we are always happy to help!

Have a nice day!

I also looked up what an EPI additive was, and this is the company's website: [...]

and a quote about what their additives do:
"EPI's technology has been designed to control and manage the lifetime of products made from the most common plastics used by modern society. TDPA® based technology enables products made from polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP) and polystyrene (PS) to degrade and, in most cases biodegrade, when discarded, into environmentally benign products within a few months to a few years as compared to decades or longer for the same products made without the benefit of the technology."
_____________________________

So these BAGS DO BREAK DOWN AFTER 24 MONTHS. But because this breakdown is facilitated by an additive, they are not considered biodegradable by US standards, but they are by Canadian standards.

EarthRated does sell a similar product (more expensive) made from corn-based products, which do naturally decompose within 2 months (
60 Earth Rated Compostable Dog Waste Poop Bags, Unscented, 4 rolls, 60-Count
).

In my opinion, this still makes this bag better than other entirely plastic products, and after comparing prices for several other types of eco-friendly poop bags, I am still purchasing this bag from this company.

In terms of the product itself, it is slightly longer than normal bags, which is great for tying off, or when your dog has a "wet one", or even for second pick-ups. The lavender scent is great - it's just enough to cover up the smell when I'm tying up the bag, but it's not overpowering. Also, even though the bag is longer, it still comes 15 bags/roll, on a cardboard center, and it STILL FITS in my normal poop bag dispenser (although a little tight when unrolling the first bag).

Hope this helps
