I purchased four refills in total - two to replenish dried-up Zebra F-701 pens, and two as back-ups. The fit was perfect - an easy plug-and-play endeavor. The refill bodies are metal and not transparent, unlike the original ink cartridges which were plastic and clear. As a result, it's impossible to determine the ink level.

Now, the big problem and the reason I'm rating these refills one star: they don't write properly. I am a child protective services caseworker and I use a lot of ink - taking notes, signing paperwork, etc. The original F-701 cartridges were awesome and lasted a long time. They wrote on anything, too. The new cartridges, however, start skipping and sometimes not writing at all - as if they're empty - within about 10 minutes of use. At first, I thought the problem may have been the type of paper I was using (cheap yellow lined paper provided at work). But I've experimented with several other types, and the refills perform similarly on all of them, except one. We have access to recycled note pads - basically, clerical staff takes our leftover letterhead that can't be used when information on it changes and turns them into little pads - and they are constructed with high quality printer paper. The refills never break down when writing on this, but only this.

I don't know if I received duds or if there is some inherent issue with the refills not writing on certain types of paper, but that's what it is. Maybe it is the former, since mostly everyone else had a good experience and rated the refills highly. I, for one, will probably be switching over to a Parker Jotter, for access to the Fisher Space Pen refill.

I have yet to lose one because I like them so much I always know where they are

When was the last time you had a pen that you cared whether you lost or not? The Zebra F402 and F701 are those pens. I have one of each and don't go anywhere without one of them in my shirt pocket. Now I can't stand even signing a credit card receipt with those cheap throw-away plastic junky pens. Instead of using the pen the cashier hands to me, I grab my pen and sign with it. I have yet to lose one because I like them so much I always know where they are. I can't be bothered picking up stray "free" pens anymore, they are useless to me. Zebra all the way.

Amazon sells the inserts in black and blue with medium and fine points. I bought my pens at Wal Mart a couple of years ago but they don't sell them anymore so Amazon is my source from now on. I was surprised that Wal Mart had something so nice in stock anyway - guess they figured it out and went back to just selling cheap junk. Thanks Amazon for keeping the good stuff always available, I just keep ordering refills and love using my Zebra pens.

Horrendous refills

Everything about these refills are a disaster. They are most certainly not metal refills but plastic, so that claim is a boldfaced lie, and they write rather poorly. The ink "skips" all the time, and the tip of the pen doesn't glide as you write but drags across a page. The generic packs of pens you can buy for a few dollars are of higher quality than these refills and I will not only never buy these refills again, but after years of owning Zebra products I will now look elsewhere for my writing needs.

2x refills are a bargain

I had first picked up the Zebra 701 here locally at a big box office store after reading about how great the pen's are. They write well and are a comfortable weight in the hand, the issue that I ran into was that they only seem to come with blank ink (when you buy the pen). I picked up a refill pack at the store but it was almost $4 just for the blue refill. Thankfully I came over to amazon later that day and found them for more than half off. I saw another reviewer comment that the ink in his refills was poor/dried out, I have not experienced this and it seems to perform just as well as the original black ink that came with my pen. Amazon was priced so well I stocked up, I may not need more refills for years to come. :)

Fits like the original.

These pen refills are just what I was looking for to replace my empty cartridge. Our local Walmart only carries the pens themselves. It seems like such a waste to keep buying the pens when you run out of ink. I love these pens because they are easy to hold and the ink doesn't clog up. The fine tips are perfect for me and have stocked up on blue and black inks. Thank you for supplying these refills.

Excellent refilss

I never thought I'd write a review for pen refills but since you asked I will. I purchased the zebra pen a few years ago as I needed a nice fine point when writing ck amounts on deposit slips where the writing space was small. I have purchased a few pens and now will keep buying the refills. The pens supplied at work are purchased by a box of 12 and are just cheap and have medium points. Pens seem to disappear so I paint the top of all my pens with hot pink nail polish and they usually end up back on my desk. I am manually writing all day and this pen w/ the fine point tip is perfect. I have a few expensive pens I got as gifts and I do use them BUT this Zebra pen is the best by far!!!!!

Did not receive the metal refill... Still gets the job done though.

Bought this thinking it was the metal refills, which i prefer over the clear plastic ones, which is what i ended up receiving (reason for only 3 star). I've been using the same F-701 since 2007 and just refilling it. I work outside in extreme summer heat in Las Vegas and prefer the metal refills as the plastic ones have leaked on me once or twice...

Blue Zebra F-Refill 2 Pack

This is where I mention I'm a pen snob toward the Zebra F series pens, especially in blue. I used to be able to buy the refills in stores but then they only seemed to carry them in black. What's a blue ink lover like me to do? Order online, I guess. The price is great and the flow of the refill tips has never been a problem for me. The refill cartridges go in easy and last a good amount of use - I'm a happy consumer to say the least.

Bought these for someone else. This person loves these refills and they stated they don't glob up or skip.
