Lots of Black liquid
by KNCS (4 out of 5 stars)
July 3, 2017

Update: I spoke with Terri at Stream Machine (company) who informed me that the swim rings that I, and some others, received were most likely an older version that is no longer being manufactured. There is a newer version that is available and the issue with the black substance/ rust should no longer a concern. Terri was awesome and went far beyond what I initially expected! I was sent a replacement set for free. . .and my kids were VERY happy about the wonderful surprise. They were able to get a few uses out of them before the end of the summer, and so far we have not had any issue with "black slime." So, at this point, I can say that I highly recommend these rings as a great alternative to other types of dive toys.

Initially, this water toy seemed like a great idea and my kids loved it. Unfortunately, after one month of moderate use, all three of the rings began to leak black liquid. Like other reviewers, this thick black liquid leaks out constantly and does indeed stain. I have given them a rating of two because my children liked them so much but, due to the nasty black liquid, I cannot recommend this item to others.

Warning, these rust!
by JFK (1 out of 5 stars)

Really bad idea. Kids did have fun with them, but the loops are joined by brackets that immediately start to rust and drip rust into the pool and rust is a pool's worst enemy. If they came out with a rust-proof version, I'd be interested.

Black mold grows because plastic doesn't fully enclose the rings.
by Rusty T. (1 out of 5 stars)

The rings are metal with a plastic coating. The coating is not sealed so water gets inside. What I assume is black mold started to grow inside the rings and leak everywhere. They are going in the trash since the black sludge stains everything.

Fun activity for the backyard pool!
by Jane (5 out of 5 stars)
August 19, 2016

This was a birthday gift for my 6 year old, who has become quite the swimmer, but my 8 & 11 year old love them too! This is our first year with a real pool in the backyard & they are having a blast. They love the challenge of lining the rings up in different lay-outs in the pool & then swimming through them all. Or lining them up in a row & creating a "tunnel" to swim through.

They are a great size-plenty big enough to swim through, but small enough to still sit underwater in our 36" deep pool. I love that they float upright well & stay in place fairly well, yet are light enough that if you stand up mid-dive, they will come with you, so there's no fear of a child getting "trapped" in a ring underwater.

The designs on the air pockets are cute. While it seems like the color on one of the rings has faded slightly in the chlorine (or sun), the rest of the rings & air pockets seem to be holding their color fine, even though we often leave them in the pool when not in use.

Each ring has a small air pocket with a tiny pump inside, to inflate it slightly, which is what holds the ring in an upright position in the water. The pump reminds me of the squeaky part of a child's-or a pet's-squeaky toy, so it is very easy for even a child to pump up the little air bladder, although it doesn't seem to take much to make it float properly.

They appear sturdy & durable & I expect that they will last for several summers at least!

I am very happy with our purchase and definitely recommend these for any children who like "diving" (swimming underwater) in their backyard pool!

Good while they lasted
by USA - UK User (3 out of 5 stars)

They were great for helping my kids swim horizontally when they were beginners. It forced them to get their legs up near the surface rather than dragging low in the water. We used them about 15 times per year (they were kept at grandma's house for our visits), first for learning then for making underwater obstacle courses. After a couple years they have lost their float so they don't stand up well (one doesn't stand at all). They still work when held. I don't know if they wore out due to use or due to age.

1st set good; 2nd set disappointing
by Sporty2122 (3 out of 5 stars)

These work great and adjust well. As an instructor, these come in handy for multiple things. I use these 5 days a week and the first set lasted over six months before the cloth inflatable part finally stopped working. 4 stars because one of the rings started to leak an oily substance after only a few uses and had to be thrown away.

Update: I purchased a second set which hasn't even lasted a month. One ring had to be thrown away after two uses. A second ring has started to leak a black fluid after being pulled from the pool and the third doesn't fold correctly. I'm very disappointed as we use these a lot during class.

Another fun toy for kids in the pool - can set up races, obstacle course, ...
by Gary T. (5 out of 5 stars)

Bought these for the grandkids. Comes with three rings. There is a little inflatable piece on the top of the ring, which you squeeze to inflate. The more you inflate, the higher the ring will float. So you can have then right by the surface or lower. My grandkids love them. They will do obstacle courses - i.e. dive in, swim to bottom, grab rings/squids, then swim through rings.

Easy to use, lots of fun for my little fish
by Nahoo (5 out of 5 stars)

This has a bubble that pumps up the rings you hold the side that says inflate and then pump it up to 15 times. To deflate it, you hold the deflate tab, but you have to hold your finger off to the side of it so it actually let's the air out. This is very easy to inflate and deflate. The inflatable makes it so the ring stays closer to the top so it's easier for kids that are learning to swim but also fun for the whole family. I go threw them too with no issues. We will be purchasing another set so we can make an obstacle course around the pool. I've seen other comments about it moving around the pool. When we use them we turn off the filter as they are floatable and will move around with the water movement. But even with them moving around it makes it fun when we are racing to see who can find them and go threw them first. Happy swimming everyone!

Great concept, poor execution
by Aimee (3 out of 5 stars)
August 22, 2019

While the concept of these swim rings is great, their execution is poor. The rings are large, like the size of a hula hoop. On the top of each ring is a small flotation bubble to help the rings float at the top of the water (while still being submerged enough to swim through under water). However, the flotation bubble does not stay inflated and on two of the rings, the inflation button was broken when I received it. Also, the rings come folded and enclosed in a handy-dandy mesh bag for carrying back and forth from the pool. However, you have to have a rocket science degree to figure out how to get the rings folded up correctly to get back in the case. And, if you don't fold them correctly, they get permanent dents in them which renders them no longer a ring.

Everyone Loves Them - Could be Better IMO
by Zen (5 out of 5 stars)
August 10, 2019

So I can give this 5 stars because everyone who sees these loves them. Kids, swimming coaches, parents. My kid loves them. They could be so much better though. If hey had a pool flotation like a pol noodle material on the top and removable fishing weights on the bottom they would be perfect. They have a small inflatable floatie thing. It is not reliable and kinda annoying. The rings are made to float near the surface and hand down. If they had a removable weight they could be used to sit on bottom of the pool when desired. One coach wants to use them for kick off practice and is working on getting them to stay inline and at a set height. As they are, they float all around if someone does not hold them. Fun product though, kids love it!
