Product Description
A pocket sized tools with slot scales for 1:24,000, 1:25,000, and 1:50,000 scale maps. The 1:24k and 1:25k scales allow you to divide a 1km map grid with 10m precision. The 1:50k scale allows you to divide a 1km map grid with 20m precision.
The tool also has a protractor marked in degrees along its outside edge. This makes plotting or measuring a bearing a snap.
The small size of this tool will allow you to keep it handy in your pocket. A band of white ink around the edge of the tool makes reading the compass rose easier and also keeps the tool from "disappearing" when you place it on the map. There is also a lanyard hole in the upper left corner.
Printed on 30 mil plastic stock the tools are about the thickness of a credit card. The ink is coated to protect it from abrasion. Size 2.75" x 2.75"(7cm X 7cm).
Internal cutouts are shown with a red outline in some product images. The map image in the background of some product images is present so that any white ink is visible. Neither the red outlines nor the map image are printed on the tool.

Love this map tool!by KFA_Davis (5 out of 5 stars)

Such an invaluable tool to have when in the wilderness. Unless, of course, you have no map to use it on... When used in conjunction with a hand-held GPS unit, you are able to plot your tracks on a paper map, if you care to do so. Just make sure the scale of the tool matches the scale of the map(s) you have (or vice-versa), or it will not work.
This is my first time having/using this map tool. Instructions were easy enough to understand. Be sure to protect it from abrasion. The numbers and lines WILL be rubbed off. Happened to mine, so I ordered another.

This company included in the little packet a folded reference card with specific details to the shipping address. The folded card fits into my compass case, and is a helpful reference in using the scale with a map. I use it on 7.5 minute 1:24,000 USFS maps of my back country. Even though the map grid is the Township/Range Public Land Survey System, the MTM references are in the margin, and they have small crosshairs at UTM grid intersections throughout the map area. This makes using this scale very easy. I found it a simple process to locate a spot with 8-digit USNG reference (10m precision). The reference card was only part of the included instructions. All of it was very informative, illustrated, well written, and greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this handy small pocket scale. Remember, "paper" maps don't run out of batteries! By the way, Mount Emily, Oregon is 10TDM04766178 (about). Happy Trails!

I needed a smaller protractor and recieved exactly what I ordered. I was surprised that the seller included a declination diagram for my specific area.
Also included is a handy pocket sized reference card printed on water proof paper with directions on how to use the protractor. It's basically a guide to map & compass navigation.
Super classy and a great way to do business.
I've purchased products from maptools.com in the past and I highly recommend them!

This UTM grid square is easy to use and it is accurate. I just completed the TR Wilderness course and this little bugger cae in serious handy. Tie a small knot in a string about 8 inches long and push it through the center hole and you have an easy way to double check your azimuth.
Quality tool that is not junk.

This is a quality tool with several map scales included. The numbers are clear and easy to read. They numbers are not stamped or raised which means they will not rub off or get damaged. That's important when you are adventure racing and may be rough on your equipment. A little surprised with the information that comes with it as it is a nice touch. You can tell the seller takes pride in the product.

Pocket sized indeed. Works great so long as you can find maps that this can be used on; which I'm finding somewhat difficult. I would recommend a length of fishing line to run through the center of it for marking angles on a map.
