Easily visible with a UV light but invisible without

I used these pens to mark the back of invitations. If someone returned a response without writing their name, I was then able to the use of a UV light to read the invisible name. The yellow was the best. I found that it was impossible to see without the light - which was perfect. The blue and pink were only slightly visible and only on white paper.

Worked well in Escape room
by ChavezChavez (4 out of 5 stars)

Bought these for use in an Escape Room I was putting together. First I tried using on glass picture frame, but ink was totally visible in normal lighting conditions indoors with dim lamps. Switched to writing on some matte black surface and was much more discreet, although one user did notice the writing before finding the blacklite. Ink stands out really well and looks great with a handheld blacklite even in normal lighting

See picture....
Ink is invisible in normal light, glows well in UV!
BUT,
* Magenta pen came with a broken nib so it hemmorages ink
* Blue pen is dry dry dry and does not mark (I tried dipping it in alcohol)
* Yellow pen works as expected.

So, if the pens worked 5 stars!

Since the pens dont work.... :( :(

66% broken. Make it 67%

I'm a little annoyed. 2/3 were leaking/broken when I got them. Pink is only strong color. You can see it without UV light because it leaves liquid that shines in sun or leaves moist marks. Cheap stuff will not be buying again.

Red is bright - the others are not as effective
by KM (3 out of 5 stars)

These become brighter when fully dry. I bought another pen (Nissen 30200) at the same time and the other (yellow) pen was more effective. The red is the brightest of the bunch - I would just purchase the single pen. Bright yellow in the pic is the Nissan. Red is this product.

fine tip markers

the pink definitely stands out

the yellow and blue are difficult to tell apart under the UV lights i have, but are still easily seen.

i used the Inova BB + Inova X5

UPDATE:

im not too sure about other brands, because these pens are the only ones i have played with,

but you may want to test them before you write your 'secrets'.

on white printer paper, blue and pink leave a trace, visible to the naked eye, while yellow remains unseen.

also, the blue wont really show up because the printer paper glows blue under the UV light.

blue didnt show on the green of a Rand McNally map

pink actually showed up the best on the red of the map.
.....just some considerations if your uses are specific, since you may be considering the multi-color pack, or single colors.

Secret Squirrel pens are fun and useful!
by RogueHistorian (5 out of 5 stars)

Secret spy pens. Kids will love them. Some paper it bleeds through and you can kinda see some colors when held at the right angle in the sun. But as far as for fun or hiding passwords or something like that, its spot on. The yellow seems to be the best of the three in not showing up on the paper, but if this is for fun or for the kiddos, its really worth it. Marking cards for magic tricks? Yea you could. Marking belongings to the teacher in a classroom to prevent theft? You could totally do it. SO MANY USES!!

I like these pens and will likely buy more in the future!

Ok ink, poor pen nibs...
by SeanR (2 out of 5 stars)
April 22, 2012

I purchased these pens as an experiment to see which ink colors light up best under UV light. I purchased these pens and another set of a different type, to test them out.

These particular pens worked well in that the ink lit up brightly under UV light. However after using them only a short time, I've discovered that they have a little flaw. If you are not very careful when putting the cap back on the pens, the nib (tip) fibers catch in the inside structure of the pen cap and flare off to the side. This happened right away and I had to trim the fibers off the tip that were sticking out at a 90 degree angle.

The pen caps, if you look down inside them with a flashlight, have an inner ring or cylinder with a rim on it that catches the nib fibers and folds them over. You must insert the pen into the cap perfectly centered every time or you will fold nib fibers off to the side and ruin your pen tips.

I've trimmed the nib on one pen so many times, that it is just a little nub now. The problem is that once you miss align the nib the first time while putting the cap on, and damage the nib, it easily becomes damaged while you use it to write, causing further troubles with the nib.

I'll continue using these pens until they are no longer usable, but I won't buy this brand of pen again.

Red looks great! Yellow and blue... meh.
by Tyler Waad (4 out of 5 stars)

The red marker really pops in UV light, and that pen alone was plenty for my needs. For buyers eyeing the yellow and blue pens, know that they don't glow quite as bright as the product pictures seem to indicate (still quite visible, but not nearly as pronounced as the red). For the price, I'd recommend this product.
