A Shorty

A short version of the FL-400S. A few year ago, the FL-400S was even longer. Ford made it smaller. But even that was not short enough. Along comes this little filter, for smaller cars with less clearance.

If you have the clearance for the FL-400S, use it. You will have more capacity and better filtration with a longer filter. More filter media. No-brainer.

The Ford Motorcraft line of filters is well constructed. Search online. Watch the videos on YouTube. When these filters are cut open, you will see that the design and construction of these filters is a lot better than at least half of the over-the-counter brands on the market, and rivals that of boutique brands.

I have never seen one of these filters fail. Not once, have I seen a Motorcraft filter blow off under load, even in racing applications with highly modified engines. I would have every bit of confidence using Motorcraft in any daily driver, commercial vehicle, or fleet vehicle. And I would not hesitate to install a Ford Motorcraft filter on a Honda motor.

Or take your chances with bulk pack filters which are typically installed by nationwide chain lube shops.

I always used M1 oil filters, however my source for them at a reasonable price dried up, and I didn't want to pay $10 a filter. Purolators, Fram always have had sub par reviews, and These always had a good reputation, so I tried one. Cut it open with an exhaust pipe cutter after 4k miles or so, and the element was torn. Not sure if it was on the glue line or next to it. But torn top to bottom, meaning not much filtering going on. I also tried an ecoguard, which is super cheap. It has a nice thick case, and looked good inside, no torn pleats, and the filter cannister wasn't sucked in or blown out. So I am going with the ecoguards, but cutting them open after each use. If their quality goes away, then who knows...

A made in USA OEM part but without the box

I like that I can get an OEM filter from Amazon for a good price, and that this filter unlike some other Motorcraft filters is still made in the USA, but I don't like the fact that it is shown in the OEM box but comes without one). (And I did purchase this from Amazon.com and not one of their marketplace sellers).

In the future I will choose to purchase this filter from a certain big-box retailer that I have since found has it for the same price - in the OEM box.

A pretty basic item. It comes in a cardboard box as depicted, it is not plastic wrapped but they never are.

Looks good! Cheap, and made for conventional, blend or full synthetic oil.

It even had directions for an oil change on the little tab inside. A nice little thing for a rookie car mechanic.

It's a genuine and recommended Ford product. It may not be made in USA every time but it's for an American brand.

I thought motorcraft was for FORD use only, But I have a Toyota Sienna and this filter did the job! This filter in the price range that its in is the best filter for under 5 bucks! Im not cheap but for what you get it should cost $10, metal end caps, silicone ADV, and a lot of filter media for under 5 dollar theres not much you can get that gives you all that. Im happy with this filter and will use it in my Toyota and Lincoln navgiator.

The Motorcraft FL-910 oil filters were loose in the shipping box. The individual filters were not in a box, wrapped or anything. Filters need to stay free a debris inside to do their job. I cannot guarantee they are clean inside. I was a bit disappointed by this, especially when it showed with the factory box in the pictures.

However, the filters shipped from Amazon came unboxed. Usually filters are boxed to prevent damage and keep debris from getting inside them.

There are two vehicles in my fleet that use this filter.

I keep a few in stock but the price has been going down over time.

I've had no issues with Motorcraft filters and they seem to be perfectly adequate for my vehicles. They are OEM after all.

good filtration and a great gasket, no leaks with hand tightening. I prefer the flat gaskets over the round gaskets. heavy duty metal can. very good anti drain back retention compared to purolator and fram. my oil looks a little dirtier at 1500 miles than it has in the past with toyota/denso filters. i think the delco filter MIGHT clean better but I prefer the Motorcraft gasket.

Dont get fooled by other filter makers claims. I've owned many fords and researched the best filters.

Ford is making cars that push 400-500hp and these filters are the best you can find.

You can look up cut away comparisons and Ford comes out as one of the best every time
