Great center channel speaker!by Cornelius Qualley (5 out of 5 stars)
December 22, 2015
Let me start by saying that I own a production company and have (and have used) a LOT of very high end audio equipment. When it comes to high output production sound systems, the quality of the speakers makes a huge difference, especially when you're talking about running your speakers at or near their maximum rated power. Home theater systems (which is what I'll be talking about here) are an entirely different story! Here are a few tips, as well as how these speakers perform:
(1) Power handling for home theater speakers really isn't that important. There are so many other factors related to "loudness" other than how many watts a speaker can handle. The fact of the matter is, most people will never come close to the maximum rater power of a home theater speaker and most will be more than sufficient for home theatre applications. These speakers are no exception. They're plenty loud, I've not even come close to running them near their maximum rated power and they handle it with no problem.
(2) Nearly every in-wall speaker is going to provide better overall sound than a typical sound bar. Of course, there may be exceptions in the very high price range. But, when you're talking about anything in relatively the same price range, in-wall speakers are always going to win out. Why? Simply put, because they're bigger. No, bigger isn't always better, but when it comes to low end frequency response (a.k.a. bass), larger speakers are always going to outperform smaller speakers. These are no exception, nice large woofers for good low end response.
(3) The larger 5.25" woofers in the center channel helps, you'll be pleased with the sound! The larger woofers in this center channel (vs. a smaller drivers or a sound bar) will simply produce more low end. We're not talking subwoofer frequencies, but more kick and punch than you'll find in a smaller woofer. These have nice low end response and sound really great.
(4) In-wall is worth the time effort. I really debated doing in-wall speakers in my most recent renovation, I kept thinking about a sound bar because of the simplicity. But, I'm REALLY glad I changed my mind. The sound from these speakers is so far superior to my sound bar it's ridiculous. What's more, I was able to keep them out of reach of the kids and free up a little more room (and paint the grills to match).
(5) Buy an affordable speaker and save your money for something that matters. Yes, there are tons of speaker options and price ranges. In the end, buying a more affordable speaker (like these) will leave you with a lot of extra cash and still have a great sounding system.
I'm really happy with these speakers, they sound great, install nicely, and are super affordable. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Pay attention to cutout dimensions and use a stud finder first before you order. Then take the time

Just installed four of these as my front/rear surround sound speakers. The in-wall installation is straightforward and once you get over the initial "OMG there's a hole in the drywall I have to cut perfectly " attack you'll see they are pretty forgiving in terms of installation. My speakers are mounted in a wall that has the back side accessible through my attic. It helped that I was able to see the stud spacing which wasn't always 16" on center. I was also removing the existing speaker jacks and mounting blocks that were installed when the house was built.
I used a combination of drywall tabs that are provided with the speakers and the tip provided by a reviewer that used a 1 x 2 screwed to the 2 x 4 stud and then replaced the drywall tabs with a #8 x 3 fine thread drywall screw. (this sounds convoluted but search the reviews and you'll see his technique complete with pictures).
There was existing 12 AWG copper wiring run to each of the speaker locations so that was a real plus in getting the best performance with minimal losses. Nice! I will be adding an enclosure over the back of each speaker since I can easily get to them through the attic. I think it will help with bass performance although they are not bad now with a response down to 40 Hz.
I couldn't be happier with the sound quality and the ability to handle a lot of power. These things will hurt your ears. I have them coupled with an Energy Take 5.2 center channel speaker and a Sony STRDA2-ES receiver right now. I will be installing a Micca center channel speaker when I get the new TV and new furniture.
For the money about $200 or so for four speakers I couldn't be happier!
Update March 19th 2018: I added my Energy Take 8.2 subwoofer to the system and ran wiring back to the receiver. Then I spent a couple of well invested hours understanding how to setup my surround sound speakers correctly and tune them using the settings on my receiver. Wow what a difference. My wife didn't care for the sound when I first installed them but after tuning for distance, speaker size, crossover Hz, etc. the speakers sound amazing. The subwoofer really beefs up the bottom end without sounding boomy and the clarity of the system is just amazing. My idea of upgrading my receiver just got scrubbed! I'll use the money toward the TV purchase.
Atmos FTW!!

I ordered these speakers because of the glowing reviews and prices i am lucky enough to live in a single story home where its very easy to move in the attic. Installation was hell because of the fireblock in the wall to fish my cables down but the template that came with the speakers were spot on and can even be cut out more to fit inside the speaker so you can paint the exterior which is very thoughtful. I have them setup in a 5.1.2 setup utilizing Atmos with my LG Oled and Onkyo 676 and it blows me away how clear they are. The firefight scene in Afghanistan on Netflix's punisher literally had me ducking. They are huge but that is in the description, the construction is great on the housing and the tabs are just like cut in electrical boxes but no where near as cheap. Great product, highly recommend, and very well packaged.
Power hungry but sound surprisingly good.

I was reluctant to get these (M-8S) initially. They were a brand I've never heard of, they were inexpensive, and if they were junk, I was going to have to repair my wall. Once I got them in my wall, I thought my fears were confirmed - on an older receiver, it sounded horrible; the bass response was muddy and it didn't have any richness to it.
I decided to give it a second go with a more powerful receiver. This was what made the difference. Suddenly the speakers came alive and I was surprised by the output. While the 8" woofers didn't have the mid-range thump I was looking for, they were still plenty loud and the subwoofer struggled to keep up, but after adjusting the receiver and the subwoofer's crossover it sounded great. Dare I say impressive.
If you're ballin' on a budget, these will do great. My recommendations are to have a high-power receiver/amplifier to power these speakers (at least 75w @8ohms) and to caulk/foam/flexseal where the drywall meets the stud to keep it from producing reverberation. Also, the mounting arms are plastic so don't over tighten them; they have a false sense of needing to be tightened more than they should.
Sound is very good, installation is horrible

You install them once and listen to them for years, so weight this review in accordance.
Installation is conceptually simple. Cut a hole in the drywall, push the speaker into the hole, and tighten 6 screws. The screws pivot mounting tabs out behind the drywall and then you tighten down until you can't.
What happens instead is that you turn the screw and the tabs pivot, and then the screws jam and you can't turn them. I consider it a victory if I can get even two of the six tabs to grip the drywall.
But when you're done, they look ok and the sound is better than you'd expect. I'd have given them a four if the installation (I put in 4) hadn't been so frustrating.
Tonal balance and power output is good. They will not do low bass, but they aren't supposed to. I recommend a 100w amp to drive them, and at about 3/4 volume they handle everything I need. Note I'm using them for special effects, not an audiophile's home theater; it's not really possible to get ideal sound from any in-wall speaker. But these really do sound pretty good, especially for the price. The midbass speaker motor seems solid and substantial; the surround seems adequate; the mounting platform not so much, but it's sufficient. Remember to aim the tweeter at the listening position because this really does make a difference.
If you're planning the wall construction in advance, try to give them about at 18" x 31" (or a bit more) space to work in, and use 2x6" studs for the wall if you can (2x4 will work). Smear some plaster inside the box to make it a bit more airtight and to make the inside of the box a bit irregular - the more uneven the better - and insulate as you would for an outside wall, but keep the insulation from touching any part of the speaker mount. That's probably as good as it gets in terms of damping resonance.
Addendum: Dropping this to 3 stars. The fact that I couldn't engage all the mounting tabs meant the speaker rattled on any low bass. Out came the power drill to force the tabs to behave. It worked, but in one case the screw tore through the black mounting plate, and a different speaker still rattled. Uninstalled and reinstalling the rattling speaker solved it. The distributor offered to replace the problem units, but all it works as is, so I'm not going to mess with deinstalling and shipping.
Note the warranty information isn't given on Amazon. You have to dig a little to find it, and it's one year and the usual caveats. Since you're cutting a hole in your wall and the hole isn't good for much after the speaker fails, I'd push the seller for a longer warranty. One year does not cut it.
Great speakers at a great price. Perfect for Dolby Atmos!

I bought these for use in a Dolby Atmos setup. I wasn't really sure how much better atmos would be than 5.1 or 7.1, but once I had it all setup I was blown away.
I opted for cheaper speakers because I wasn't sure if I would like the atmos setup or get much use out of it. Not only did I realize that atmos is great, I found these speakers to sound great. They've been installed for less than a month, so I can't speak for longevity, but they sound great! I did not install these inside of an enclosure and simply mounted them to the sheetrock, and I assumed that would make them sound weak and lack low frequencies. Wrong. They are much more responsive than I expected. I'm very happy with the sound.
After debating whether to opt for the 6.5 or the 8 inch versions, I went with the 6.5 and I can tell you that if you're installing these in a room with 8 foot ceilings, it's all you need. Install was a breeze - cut a hole in the ceiling, connect the wires, and screw the speaker in. They have plastic tabs that allow you to install without needing a ceiling electrical box or any extra items. It's the same concept as an old work wall box, if you've ever installed one of those.
The aesthetics are great and so is the sound. Overall I'm very pleased and will most definitely look for these if I need more ceiling speakers in the future!
Best in wall speakers for the price.

Incredible clarity and balanced sound at a affordable price. I just put together a 5.1 setup for a small living room useing four Micca M-8S (main and surround) one Micca M-CS (center) and one Polk Audio PSW 10 (subwoofer). All together I spent around $350. The sound quality is fanamenal. I love that you can adjust the tweeter, allowing them to angle towards the listener. One could easily spend $1000 dollars on a set of speakers without yielding sound comparable to these. I could not be any happier.
Pretty damn good sound!

My ears got tired of listening to my 9 year old daughter jam music on an Echo Dot. I picked up a small bluetooth amp from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076XSBCCL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and 2 of these speakers. I installed 1 speaker in her bathroom, and 1 in the bedroom. The sound quality is amazing; there's enough "thump" to make you believe there's a subwoofer hidden somewhere. The aimable tweeters mean she can keep the volume low but still hear the soundtrack to whatever "tweens" listen to these days, even over the shower. I'm an Audiophile (who scoffs at in-wall or in-ceiling ANYTHING), but I'm pretty impressed.
Awesome Sounding speakers!

The reviews written on this product are genuine and I am pleased to say that this product is great! I had some in-ceiling infinity speakers that was installed several years ago which started to die due to extreme heat in from the attic. Initially I thought of getting 'Rubber Speaker Foam Edge' Surround Rings as Replacement and fix those speakers myself but then realized that while the foam might help put the cone in place but the overall sound quality can never be same again. I am glad I did not go that route and got these speakers instead.
The construction of these speakers are great! The Micca M-8S (8 inch) has good frequency response... I wasn't expecting that these will be producing rather deep bass! Actually after installing these in the ceiling I had to re-tune my amplifier to reduce bass output they are that good :) The Tweeters can be tilted and directed towards the listening area and provides excellent high notes.. The cone looks like high end klipsch speakers... while these are not klipsch speakers they do sound just as great! The crossover circuitry is well built too I think this will last couple of decades easily.
Overall these are excellent sounding speakers... Well worth the money spent... Recommended ! Five stars!
Higher end speaker comparison

I bought these for my bedroom to replace a "sound dock" which just never seemed to get used. This and a small amphony bluetooth amp are much cheaper and provide way better sound. I have been listening everyday since I bought them. Awesome bass response, great highs, slightly raspy but they should mellow with usage. The speakers fall off a little in the mid-ranges. What the heck anyway? 100$ for the pair!
Installation:
48" high knee wall with crawl access behind and a framing header 1 inch above the installation, wall studs 16" of center and insulation behind the speakers making contact. Installation was incredibly easy.
Comparison to Paradigm Studio 20s
I was so happy with these, I figured I would give it a try.
Paradigms: 2 way ported box, 7" woofer, 1" tweeter, 54hz-22khz, 90db ~900$ new.
Miccas: 2 way in wall, 8" woofer, 1" tweeter, 40hz-20khz, 90db 100$ new.
Both are 8 ohms.
The Paradigms are way better in the mids, have smoother highs and the bass roll off is much nicer even though they don't go as low as the Miccas.
Mid range intensive music like Paco de Lucia ( Flamenco ), Dianna Krall, David Bowie, Chet Baker, Paul Simon sound way better on the Paradigms.
Heavy rock like Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin and even some more folkie stuff like Dave Mathews and U2 there is not so much difference. I didn't bother comparing classical music. Movies I actually liked slightly better on the MIccas. The Miccas also spread sound better, the Paradigms are more directed, maybe box vs in-wall?
So the comparison is unfair, the paradigms to me sound as good or better than speakers I compared them to in the $1200 to 1800 dollar range when I bought them. The Miccas are only 100$ a pair and I slightly prefer them for Movies. Despite a few weak points they are not fatiguing to listen to music for long periods which, to me, is the most important feature I look for in a speaker.
Update: Comparison to BIC America DV-62CLRS 6-Inch 2-Way Center Channel Speaker
This is a better comparison of similar level equipment although the BIC is a center channel designed for a different purpose.
BIC: 3 way dual port box, 2 x 6" woofer, .75" tweeter, 38hz-20Khz, 90db, 110$ new.
Miccas: 2 way in wall, 8" woofer, 1" tweeter, 40hz-20khz, 90db 50$ ( for one ) new.
Both are 8 ohms.
The BIC, at a higher price, is an all around inferior speaker to the Micca. Washed out base and less defined highs but a better balance of mids. It occurred to me that the mids on the Miccas sound diminished because the bass and highs are so robust. I did some research and found out that in wall speakers always project more bass, similarly, box speakers will throw more bass if they are closer to a wall. I am still trying to convince myself that speakers can't sound this good for 50$.
UPDATE July 2017
I saw some reviews complaining about base. If these are installed correctly, believe me, base is not a problem. I found a site called audiocheck(dot)net. I can hear or rather "feel" down to 16Hz. Way below the advertised range of these speakers.
