Product Description

Formation: Geodes are formed naturally by volcanic activity. Bubbles in lava harden, over time natural crystals grow inside of the lave bubbles. What's Inside? Have a great time breaking these geodes open! There are 12 geodes in this pack ranging is size from large marble to bigger than golf ball size. They are hollow geodes. Geode cracking instructions are included; once the geodes are opened use the geode identification guide to determine which minerals you discovered. Amethyst (rare but possible), smoky quartz and clear quartz natural crystals are found inside these geodes! It's a surprise every time you open one! Ancient Treasure Adventures: An Ancient Treasure is waiting to be discovered!!! We are family owned company with 3 generations of experience exploring and mining geodes. We know quality geodes when we see them. "High Quality Geodes": These geodes have been carefully sorted to insure that they are almost all hollow. The crystals inside will be consistently clean and sparkly with a variety of colors! Great family fun and educational for the kids! 100% naturally occurring geodes with real, genuine crystals! Not all geodes are equal: A real geode has a good sized hollow pocket inside of it. There are many "Geodes" out there that are technically "Nodules" or completely or mostly solid. Nodules are very inexpensive (cheap) and common. We take pride in selling real geodes and have the best quality of break open geodes in the world! Join us on this Ancient Treasure Adventure!

EXTREMELY THRILLED! GORGEOUS!!!
by Master Sensei G (5 out of 5 stars)

I wish I could give these more stars then 5 stars!!! I have ordered from several different places and for the most part was satisfied but not very happy. These are beyond the best I have ever gotten! I can not see ever ordering from another place. They all were pretty much different on the inside with gorgeous colors and shapes. I am going to post a lot of pictures, because I would like everyone to see what you might get if you order from this company. Trust me when I say that the pictures don't do them justice! I am definitely ordering more, for myself and my grandkids. Thank you so much for your fantastic geode products!

Excellent kit!

This far exceeded my expectations! There was a great mix of sizes and really only one "dud". My 7 year old really enjoyed cracking them open and the whole family enjoyed seeing the different types of crystals.

Not just quartz
by Patrick (5 out of 5 stars)

All the geodes but one we could break with a hammer one of them was pretty solid and I cut it in half with the tile saw. I bought these for my niece and she really had a hoot and a holler breaking these open. And they were more than just courts there is like four different kinds look very interesting and the one I had to cut with the tile saw I think it's smoky quartz because it's really black Quartz crystal looking stuff. Because these were a gift I don't have any pictures of this one that I had to cut with a tile saw.

very pleased with the quality
by Tess E. Kins (5 out of 5 stars)

Ordered 2 units, very pleased with the quality.

All 24 geodes except for 1 were hollow with great crystal matrices inside. Lots of variation in size, form (i.e. big spire terminations and druse), and color. Only advice would be not to do as the kit advises by just taking a hammer to the rock.

What I did to achieve clean breaks on about 19 of my geodes: examine the rock for where it might be likely to break open (or where you would like it to break if you want to take a risk haha, it can pay off). Use a chisel and hammer to score it around that line. Try to find two "flat" spots on the rock mostly opposite each other and on the line (if you can't, just one flat spot on the line will do) and take the chisel to those spots specifically. Do all of this with the rock still in the bag provided, of course! If you just hit it with a hammer, it's more likely to be smashed into lots of tiny shards instead of larger pieces. Some of them will shatter even with patience and the right approach, lol. Even though these are inexpensive geodes, with patience and the right approach you can definitely get most of them to break cleanly and look like they were bought already opened!

These were great geodes. They varied in size with 3 or 4 small ones 4 medium ones and three or four larger ones. They all had crystals inside and they varied in colors and types of crystals. I purchased these because the reviews were very good. I am not disappointed in my choice. The only issue was there are not enough little bags in the kit to break them all...but that is not a big deal. You can put them in a small freezer bag or sock to break them. We had a blast cracking them open.

Fun but smaller than expected
by Tabitha Bluelady Haney (4 out of 5 stars)
December 13, 2016

My son and I had a blast with these (well mainly him). They were actually a lot smaller than expected (probably my fault for not reading all the fine print), but had a good variety of crystals inside. My son was very excited to get "gold" crystals in one, for example.

Notes:
*We had no luck at all cracking them with a hammer, they were tough, even when adding a chisel to the equation ! Switched to a mini sledge. Victory.
*Don't understand the "smashing bags", they had holes after one geode. Ziploc bags to the rescue. We smashed them on the driveway.
*Kit doesn't come with recommended safety googles, fyi.

Hard to break, but beautiful when you do
by Amazon Customer (3 out of 5 stars)

Absolutely aweful. Day 2 and we are still trying to break these open. Mallets, hammers, NOTHING is working. I may just drive over them with my car. Needless to say my son is very disappointed in this Christmas gift. Can't comment on the crystals as of yet. Update: finally got these bad boys broken open and I will say they are beautiful. So many different colored crystals. I gave an extra star for this.

Good buy. Interesting, informative,
by KM,Top Contributor: Pets (4 out of 5 stars)

Good buy. Interesting, informative, & it came with an assortment of different geodes, as advertised.

I built a jig to hold them steady, & allow the kids to wail away on them with a hammer, without any worry about breaking pavement, or fingers, but these babies are tough! Broke the jig several bashes in on the first Geode, & just used the base to keep it from jumping around too much, thereafter. My 35 yr old son wailed on that sucker for a while, using both the flat & the pointy ends of his hammer, & even he took many swings before breaking it.

Then we gave up, & went for the diamond saw he has, & just cut the rest. Not much fun - just watching Daddy cut stone with a power saw, so the kids wandered off, & just came back for the reveals. I found it interesting to see the insides, & while they weren't anything too amazing inside, you could see the sparkling bits in the sun, & there were even a few with real, identifiable crystals in there. All of ours were hollow, but some were quite small (3 out of 12 were walnut sized, & the rest were bigger). It made it difficult to hold them in the vise, & still have enough sticking up to cut off. (We used cardboard, to get a better grip in the vise.)

We got them all cut, and while not all were pretty, there were a few with potential. I washed them all, and they looked better wet than dry, so after I buffed some on my bench grinder, they looked better, and I will polyurethane them when they get dry.

I did take a shot at dying some of the broken pieces (because I'd seen some for sale that said they were dyed), and it was interesting. The Green food dye turned out looking aquamarine, and the blue turned into a pretty blue, with some light and dark bits. The Red looked more orangy-pink, and the yellow barely showed at all. Once dried overnight, they did not seem to be coloring anyone's fingers, so I think you could do it OK, and especially if you put polyurethane on after. Shiny and colored. : )

I wouldn't get hung up on the amazing showstopper's you'll get, but if you're just interested to learn a bit (from their included booklet), and see what's inside one, this was fun. Have a tile saw, or angle grinder, etc on hand, if you want a smooth edge, or it's likely to be a bit of rubble with the hammer only, and probably only Dad will succeed in breaking them at all.

Not perfect, but pretty good
by DNA (4 out of 5 stars)

Nice for the price. Some of the geodes were half the size of others, and some took forever to try and break. The "geode bags" included to prevent dust from flying everywhere are pretty useless.

When they did break, I usually got them into about 3 large pieces and a few tiny bits, but you should expect that if you're just using a hammer and not a saw or anything.

If you're like me, and you're mostly using them for craft things and don't exactly care about two exact halves, then just use a hammer. Strike with force, but not as hard as you can. Some of these rocks only took one good whack and I'm a skinny college girl. The ones that take a really long time to break, I've found aren't that good on the inside.
