Great look, needs some easy fixes

The Boot Tops looked great. Got a lot of compliments. There were two things that need to be improved. First, the straps that go under the shoes were too small. Easy fix with added elastic and velcro. Second, when walking the tops fell to your shoes. There is not enough rigidity to hold them up. I fixed with an elastic band just below each knee, that I anchored with velcro to the inner panel.

Look decent but are of mediocre quality

First of all as the others have said these will NOT stand up on their own. If you don't do something to hold them up you will end up with them puddled around your ankles. Second, velcro won't do it. I used velcro with industrial strength adhesive to try and hold them up. After a brief time of walking around last week they were (you guessed it) puddled around my ankles. I kept sticking them back in place but as soon as I would walk a few steps they would slide right back down. The adhesive held to the pants, but not the boots. Third, even safety pins don't hold them very well. I tried one safety pin on each boot last night and they still sagged badly. If I wear them again I'll be going with 3 or 4 pins on each boot cover.

Second, they are not easy to put on and take off. The only way I could figure out to do it is to put my shoes on first and then pull them over my shoes. They just barely fit and you can hear them starting to tear from the force. The second time I wore them one of the straps tore off. The only way I could remove them was to slip my feet out of my shoes and then remove the whole shoe/boot cover assembly together and THEN remove the boot covers from the shoes. Even then it wasn't easy.

At the moment this is getting a five star rating from me. I read a lot of the other reviews before ordering these. A lot of people stated that the elastic and they had to do something to hold up the tops on your legs. I haven't tested them with shoes yet,. But they fit great on my legs even with pants on. The elastic straps on the feet did not break yet without shoes, though have a feeling that they will break as they were tight on my feet, will have to see how much they stretch.

Update:

I have a size 10 shoe. The elastic bands are very tight on them without my foot in the shoe testing it that way. Walking withe the bands on the bottom of the shoe they will probably snap. If I put the Boot Top on before I put my shoe on it works alright without them snapping, the band with the two "bronze" buttons on it can then lay in top of the shoe, but it won't cover the shoe. If I potentially just cut the elastic bands then it would probably cover them fine.

Update 2:

Cut off the elastic straps the two at the bottom. They fit great over the shoe now. Tried multiple different ways to get them over the shoes with the straps that came with them. Those straps were just too small to allow for the flexibility of getting them around the shoe on your foot. If they were 2-3 inches larger on the straps would of given it room to go down the sides of the shoe at the bottom and then across the bottom.

Okay boot tops

Honestly, you get what you pay for. I was hoping for a bit more but I was able to make them work. When I initially tried them on, the elastic that is supposed to go under the boot snapped right off. It is difficult to get these on over a boot regardless of if you are wearing them or not. I ended up cutting the bottom portion off and leaving just enough fabric to zip into my boots. It holds up the upper section nicely and looks better, in my opinion, then with the entire piece. I am using this for my Dread Pirate Roberts costume and it works great. Had my boots not been so tight around the leg, I don't think there would have held up by themselves but they work great with no modifications other than the initial cut I made. A decent product overall.

Worked great with some simple modifications

My son needed boots for a play, these covers were a less expensive option than boots, with the added advantage of having a time period look that we needed for his role. One of the other members of the cast purchased them as well. My son wore them over black high top basketball shoes. They look very nice, but did present some challenges with staying up, as others have mentioned. My son's role involved some "dancing" and a fight scene, along with a lot of general movement. After trying several different approaches here is what we found to work best:

First, cut the elastic that is supposed to go around and under your actual shoes off completely. The elastic bands serve only to pull on the boot cover with each step taken, and the cover lays very nicely over the shoes without the elastic bands. They are far too short anyway, and trying to stretch them over your shoe, if you can even stretch them that far, will cause some of them to break with repeated uses.

Next, use strategically placed safety pins to pin them to the pant leg. Tacking with a few stitches with do the same thing. It does take some patience to get the boot tops completely even, and it helps to have someone pin them in place while they are on the wearer. We placed one fairly large safety pin in the back right under the folded flap and right on the seam where the folded flap is sewn to the actual boot top. Then we place one smaller safety pin directly beneath the larger one to help distribute the tug created, thereby reducing the chances that either the boot cover or pant leg would tear at the attachment.

The boot overs have to be pulled onto the legs BEFORE putting on the black shoes.

These steps made the boot covers last through 2 months of dress rehearsals, and 4 performances completely intact. I would recommend these for anyone needing a time period boot for a costume for any occasion.

Two critical defects...

These look great when on correctly, it's getting to that point that's the problem...

Step 1. You have to thread your shoe through these little elastic bands in just the right way, and heaven forbid you're wearing a shoe larger than a size 9 dress shoe, because they barely fit around the shoe, and on the second use, one of the straps broke. In that sense these are made way too small for fitting around shoes/boots.

Step 2. Once you get them on, there's nothing that keeps them up near your knees rather than down at your ankles. They have decorative shoestrings built in, but unless you're built like the Rock, tightening that scrunches them up so much it ruins the look. We had to fashion a string underneath the fold at the top to tighten just below the knee and above the calf.

These Pirate boot toppers are high grade foe leather! They matched my shiney high dollar square tipped Italian select leather black shoes perfectly! And people commented saying they thought I had bought high dollar boots! I would definitely recommend buying this set ! The Quality of the stitching was excellent! I wear a size 12 so slide them over your shoes, then slide your feet through the toppers and into your shoes. I am 6 ft 225lbs they came up to the middle of my kneecap so they will fit anyone up to 6'8 or so. Great product! Shipping was prime, they came right on time!

I have to say these were beyond our expectation! The straps actually didn't fit over the outside of the boots he choose, so he wore them on the inside. The buckles didn't bother his feet a bit, and these were worn at our wedding reception where he walked around and danced for hours on end. He got so many compliments because people thought they were really boots and not just boot tops. Totally made the outfit so that we could live our fantasy day as Princess Buttercup and the Dread Pirate Roberts.

Make dress shoes into instant boots!

These made my dress shoes into instant boots!

Pros:

Easy slip on

Looks great

Cons:

The elastic bands around your calves are not tight and cannot be adjusted. If you have small calves, these will keep slipping down your legs to lower part and scrunch up.

Other Comments:

I was afraid because I kept reading negative reviews saying the straps that go around your shoes snapped. They seemed pretty sturdy to me. Your value may vary

When putting together my pirate costume I had a limited budget, so in lieu of boots I opted for these to go with some plain toed black dress shoes. These are great. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is the strap that holds them in place broke off the left one. Not a major problem, fixed it in about 2 minutes, and they've worked great since, but with a new item I expect it to work without any malfunctions. Overall, I recommend them.
