Don't use cheap paper
by Samuel (5 out of 5 stars)
September 10, 2018

Complete calligraphy noob here. So you know.

I started out practicing on normal grocery store graph paper, using the 6 mm Pilot Parallel pen. I didn't know how terrible that paper was until I switched to this stuff. Wow.

First off, the cheap stuff apparently drinks ink for fun. Not only did my strokes look cleaner and sharper, but I immediately stopped going through as much ink. I was flying through two or three cartridges a night with the cheap paper. I've done about six pages of the letter "˜a' now without changing ink.

AND you can use both sides of it.

Did I mention it's smooth? Doesn't really fight upstrokes.

If you're just starting calligraphy, DON'T USE CHEAP PAPER. Use this stuff. Trust me, switching has been a pain because I *thought* my letters were looking okay but they looked like dookie on good paper. It's almost like starting over, so use this stuff as early as possible.

Nice paper, poor product description
by SiteReader (4 out of 5 stars)

Just got the Rhodia wirebound grid paper notebook. It's nice, smooth paper, that takes a pencil mark well. Each page is a square grid from edge to edge with no margin.

I was a little disappointed that it didn't have a title slot on each page. I had been misled by a customer's effort to provide a picture. The picture showed a comparison of two types of notebooks, but the image confused me into thinking that there was a title section at the top of each page, which would have been nice. However, the fault lies not with the customer, who was trying to help, but the company's advertising department. The information they provide is altogether too scant.
For example, I couldn't find a listing anywhere of the number of squares per inch (or per centimeter) which is the standard dimension you find with any graph paper. The answer is it is 5 squares per inch for this pad. (That works well for my present use which is taking notes for MIT's free online course in linear algebra. W. Gilbert Strang is a great instructor in course 18.06, in case you are interested in the subject.)

I found the product description to be very scant on all the Rhodia notebooks advertised on Amazon. Some don't even list the size of the paper in the pad. It seems like a good product. They should get up to speed on their product listings.

Great Paper For Hand Lettering Practice
by Nicole B (5 out of 5 stars)
July 20, 2017

This is perfect paper for me to use in my hand lettering practice. I use the grid lines as guidelines. Ink does not bleed through the paper. I have other Rhodia pads, and they are all great quality. I like using this Rhodia spiral topped pad the best because it allows me to lay the notebook down flat on the table when I write on both the front and back sides of the paper.

Darker Grid Markings.
by Sue Ellen Sherblom (2 out of 5 stars)
January 11, 2013

What has happened to The-Best-Paper-Ever, that the grid has become so dark? My previous Rhodia purchases have fairly faint markings that provide guidance for the writing without being obtrusive. This paper is still creamy and delicious, but the markings are so insistently present that I find writing on it unpleasant.

A page pulls out from the coils rather than the perforations. After a page has been removed, I have to twice make a sharp crease (crease; flip the paper over; crease again) to weaken the line of perforations before I can pull the raggedy edge off the top of the sheet.

I love Love Love the design of this notebook
by Ian M. (3 out of 5 stars)

I love Love Love the design of this notebook, and the paper itself. The frustrating thing is that the pages tend to come out of the binding so easily; I carry this in my bag, and they're falling out!

the best
by Whitecob (5 out of 5 stars)
March 17, 2014

This is the best paper I have used so far, and the grid lines make it great for writing, drawing, ect. I use lots of pens on this; gel, ballpoint, fountain, dip, markers ect. And all of them work great. The pad is big and a lot can be done in the space of a page, and the ring lets it lay flat so you have two free hands to work with.
