Life saver!

You wouldn't believe how many people don't clean their hairbrushes, it's horrific. If you actually took time to look at the base of your hairbrush and see all the gunk and oil that gets piled up there and that fact you run that through your hair everyday and are just transferring that stuff back to your hair. You would notice a vast improvement in your hair, especially when you brush it if you took time to clean the brush. Having said that this cheap little tool makes it a heck of a lot easier!

Cleaning your brush is much more than just pulling out the hair (though you must do that too). I clean my brushes thoroughly about every few weeks and here's how I recommend you do that using this little tool.

Remove all the hair from your brush using a comb and the pointy tip of this little tool (which makes it much easier to get all the little hairs out).

Using a tub or bowl large enough to fully encompass the brush(es) and fill it with hot water (about an 1-1.5", just enough to submerge the bristles/spikes) and mix in liquid antibacterial soap (or a gel shampoo) and a sprinkle of baking soda (optional: a splash of vinegar I recommend). Mix it together to create suds. (On a side note I have found this mixture which is made by stuff around your house works better than any specifically intended liquid/powder hairbrush cleaner I've purchased)

Allow the brush(es) to soak for about two hours. Make sure the brushes are facing down and the bristles are completely submerged.

remove them and rinse them thoroughly under warm water and use this cleaning tool to scrub them and remove anything from them.

Shake them brush out and drain the water than will be trapped in it.

Allow the brushes to dry upside down overnight on a towel.

Be sure to scrub this little cleaner out afterwards with some soap and water to remove anything from it.

You're done!

This cleaning tool is sturdy with very stiff bristles that are very long and can reach and really scrub the base of the brush. They are very stiff and strong and will last a long time. Invest in this little tool, will make your life much easier! Before this tool I was trying to use a nailbrush which bristles were not nearly long enough to reach the base and weren't nearly stiff enough. Then I came to amazon and found this (which I didn't even know existed),amazon you have everything. This is a must have, clean your brushes.

Just because it may be worth mentioning do NOT use this method to clean Mason pearson brushes. They cannot be submerged in water and come with their own cleaning tool and cleaning instructions.

An Essential Part Of My Grooming Tools
by TheKeeper (5 out of 5 stars)
April 15, 2016

I purchased this brush back in 2011 (I'm writing this in April 2016). I have heavy dandruff and require hair dressing to keep my hair from drying out and becoming brittle. Further, no matter how gentle I am, I am going to come away with hair on my grooming tool, as I seem to shed rather easily, almost like a cat (yet, my hair still manages to be dense and plentiful!). Hence, the buildup of loose hair and product requires that I clean my brushes and combs every day. My fine-toothed comb is so adept at picking up excess flakes and hair that I often need to clean it at least twice. Hence, this hair brush cleaner is an essential part of my hair care tools. I use the point to pick out hair in my brushes, then I use the large brush area to get out anything remaining. Any stubborn lint, etc that sticks to my brush bristles is given extra attention with the small brush area of this tool. I use this same part of the tool to get out stubborn debris from my fine-toothed comb. This tool has held up incredibly well to the every day usage, though the Denman lettering has since rubbed off, and there are one or two bristles a little bent out of shape from steady use. But other than that, after five years of regular and heavy use, this brush cleaner is still doing its job, perfectly!

Better than I could have expected!

Ok so when I bought this I was really skeptical. I am grossed out by my hairbrush and clean it all the time. I've soaked it in vinegar and tea tree oil, used a toothbrush, scrubbed it with shampoo, picked it clean by hand - everything you can think of. I've even run my brushes through the dishwasher. Still it's so hard to get the little lints that form at the base of the brush - they don't disolve off and you have to pick them off the bristles one by one because a toothbrush won't even break them up because they are bound by sticky natural hair oils. This thing works amazing. I don't know why it just does - the particular texture of the bristles on this really grabs everything. It scraped the little lint rings right off and now my brush is cleaner 10x as fast. If it doesn't last I'll update my review but for now I'm so happy wit this.

You don't think you need it but you do. You absolutely do.

I own (and love) the Denman Large Natural Bristle w/Nylon Brush D81L
. Shortly after I purchased it, I saw that this was listed as a suggested product. "A brush for my brush?" I thought. "Now I've seen everything."

Then I learned that hard water and my favorite shampoo bars don't mix well. Because when they do, it results in a waxy gray gunk that was almost impossible to get out of my brushes. I was using cheap rattail combs to clean the hair and buildup out. Figured that a few bucks for something more effective couldn't hurt so I caved and ordered this.

It was like hearing angels singing the first time I used it. After a few swipes, the gross buildup deep in my brush was gone. I shudder to think about how often I used it while letting the residue build and build. This works so much better than the appearance suggests. I cannot recommend it enough if you live in an area with hard water and are sick of finding gray clumps in your brushes.

Nest of Fluff
by Katie S. (5 out of 5 stars)

I have very long hair that seems to trap thing like dust, stuffing fluff, cat hair, small children, etc. My wet brush, and for all of you also have one you know how dingy they get just after one use, was a safe haven for all of this. I try to pick out my hair after brushing, but the nest of leave in conditioner and fluff holds on like magnets.

With some Windex, warm water and 3 minutes of scrubbing, my brush looks brand new. It's easy enough to do once a week. Don't be afraid to get a little aggressive with the scrubbing, it will work out in your favor.

My hair is healthier because of this brush cleaner

I never realized that a brush full of hair can hurt your healthy hair. Prior to this tool, I would take a rat tail comb and just clean out the hair, thinking the brush was clean. I was so wrong! the pick side of the cleaner loosens the hair that is matted down in the brush. The bristle side cleans it out so well that it looks like it's a brand new brush. After cleaning, when I use the hairbrush to dry my hair, it glides through my hair, without pulling and tugging. I can tell that when my brush is clean, I have less split ends and also breakage at the tip of my head. I cannot recommend this highly enough!

This is awesome

This is the tool I never knew I needed. It may seem like a silly thing to spend money on when you can clean your brush out by hand but this gets so much more out of the brush! It's easy and rather enjoyable. Who wants to brush their nice clean hair with a brush full of dirty oily hair and dust. When you really think about it makes you want to throw out all your old brushes. I will be buying these as gifts for all my girlfriends.

Works overall, hard to clean
by Holly (3 out of 5 stars)

This works fairly well at removing hair and lint from my boars bristled nylon brush. It cannot remove all lint that sticks to the boars bristles, even when raking with the brush part several times. Simply transfers lint from the brush to the cleaner, which is difficult to clean. Works with some effort. Cleaning this is time consuming.

Do NOT buy

DO NOT BUY. Try another product
1 - did not really work. It took out some of the hair on my brush but definitely not most of it.
2 - can not be returned (Amazon policy)

Just eh

I expected more from this, although I'm not sure why. It's basically just a thin brush with coarse bristles and a pointy end. A comb with a pointy end would work just as well. I wanted something to clear out the fuzzies that build up, but no such luck.
