Enough of this plastic garbage!

This needs to be metal! Why is this not made of metal? I manage an apartment complex that has about a dozen of these Moen PosiTemp valves installed. In every single one of them this has been the first breaking point. Any resistance built up by calcium/lime is picked up by this plastic piece through the handle and the shaft cracks within a year or two.

But maybe that's a review for most Moen garbage products filled with plastic these days. Their lifetime warranty acts way too slow so you get stuck buying these replacement parts anyways.

Congratulations Moen, I'm back buying yet another plastic piece that will soon break on me again in another unit! I'd gladly pay the few cents extra for this to be metal.

Functional, but not your best option

The Danco 80004 replacement handle comes with an insert that is functionally identical to this plastic Moen piece, except it is made from metal. So if you have problems with the durability of this OEM Moen piece, go buy the Danco and throw everything away but the insert and you can use it with your Moen handle.

Let's have the metal version back. This newer plastic part, presumably substituted to save a few pennies, has a lot of "slop" (play) in its fit on the cartridge shaft. The handle then has to be turned several degrees before the shaft starts to turn, then does the same when turning back in the other direction. I'd be glad to pay a couple of dollars extra to get the GOOD quality, metal part. As a retired materials engineer, I have no particular bias against plastic mechanical parts - they have their place, unfortunately this application isn't one of them.

SLOP and fundamental engineering flaw that results in loose handle

I think Moen's Engineering department screwed up on this one. There is a fundamental problem with this handle adapter in that there is too much slop between this adapter and the brass shaft end of the cartridge. The slop puts all of the torque applied to the handle (when you use the handle), on the screw. You'll never be able to tighten the screw enough to resist the torque on the handle. So what does this do, results in a loose retainer screw and a loose handle.

Either they're in cahoots with the plumbers industry to drum up service calls or they really just failed to consider manufacturing tolerances, but its a mind boggling failure that has surely resulted in thousands of loose shower handles that most people chalk up to a loose set screw.

Danco's metal adapter addresses this tolerance issue by the use of a little metal washer that is cut to fit tight to the cartridge shaft.

It was the part that I needed, however the number on the website differed from the number on the part which is 109113 which is the same number on the part that I was replacing.

Recently bought this replacement part 4 months ago. It has already failed to work. This non-metallic part fits over a metal part. After only this short time it is not tightly fitting and slides over the metal piece, stripping itself out, and the faucet leaks. DO NOT BUY THIS. Poor design. Need metal to metal parts to properly function.

The cartridge in my shower valve lasted 14 yrs. Unfortunately, after that long, it was nearly impossible to remove the handle as the set screw was corroded and would not budge. Had to be drilled out. New cartridge and handle now in place, ready for the next 14 yrs. This kit will be used for preventive maintenance. I plan to replace the adapter and screws before they corrode this time. If you start to feel some play in the handle, you know it's time for a new adapter. Better to spend $5 and 5 minutes every few years, rather than have a major 5 hour labor job in the future.

This kit is just what I needed. The product being sold here is the handle adapter kit (116653), which includes the handle adapter (part # 109113), replacement screws (1 to attach the handle adapter, and 1 to attach the handle to the adapter) and a 7/64th allen/hex key.

The shipping was very quick. The price is great. And I only had to purchase the parts I needed and not a huge, overpriced kit that the local hardware stores wanted me to buy.

Best $7 I've ever spent. Needed this part replaced on my moen shower valve and could only find it in kits in town that came with way more than I needed and also cost much more, $30+. Got on amazon and there it was. just the part I needed and for a decent price. Got here in less than 48 hours and had it installed minutes after it arrived. Only negative is I wish this piece was made out of metal rather than plastic.

Bought this to replace the same shower handle adapter part that had cracked. Unfortunately these plastic shower handle parts wear out over time and it's fairly common to have to replace them. This part was a perfect match to the part supplied directly from the Moen website, but for a fraction of the cost. My wife and I are both thankful that I am once again showering.
