Product Description
Elapsed time, weight, and liquid volume are all explored in the context of walking and feeding 9 dogs. Students are also supported to build connections between the operations of multiplication and division as they develop a feeding chart for the dogs and engage in minilessons. A new board game is also introduced whereby students try to walk and feed all the dogs in the least amount of time, calculating elapsed time to determine their score for the round. This unit is part of the Contexts for Learning Mathematics series, a k-5 series used primarily in the U.S. and Canada, but also around the world. It is designed as a grade 3 unit to be used after a prior grade two unit, Time and Money. If that unit was not used prior and your students do not have a well-developed sense of the measurement of time to the nearest five minutes, you can combine the two units into one and use them together to make a 10 day unit.
