Recipes too salty
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

I found I had to cut back on the amount of salt in any given recipe because my tears of loneliness often over-seasoned whatever dish I happened to be heating.

Although it is shown on the cover, there is not actually a recipe for a milkshake.

You will need at least one special container
by GristMill (4 out of 5 stars)
November 24, 2018

I found simple, tasty, specific, and some lost recipes in this book. But you will need one of the special pans/pots to do cooking with. I did find them easily available on eBay.

If you've stopped cooking because it is too much trouble, take heart.

I also ended up replacing my old broken microwave with a 700-watter. I cooked all frozen food on 50% power anyway = 600 watts in the previous microwave so not much change. If you don't happen to be in the market for a new microwave, go to the website and download the converter chart that applies to your appliance. Easy peasy.

The cats hate the microwave and scurry whenever I turn it on
by Khoa Tran (5 out of 5 stars)
June 21, 2016

When I come home to my apartment, I turn on the microwave as my main source of heat. The cats hate the microwave and scurry whenever I turn it on, all seven of them. My greatest joy is choosing what frozen meal I get to fire up for my dinner. Then I discovered this book and things changed. Instead of only eating pre-made meals, I can now put my artisan skills to the test. I do recall being somewhat of a rock star in my home ec classes.

I am now making delicious spare ribs and seafood muffins (see page 141) and having a banquet with my cats. The other day I made a wonderful Rhubarb Pudding Cake (see page 211) and had a birthday party for Mr. Pawly Shore. I don't know when his birthday actually is so I just go by the date that I got him from the shelter. I've learned to double-up and even triple-up on the ingredients so that I can make extra servings for myself the next day. When you know you're going to be eating alone tomorrow again...might as well make extra.

Not what I expected
by sunshine (2 out of 5 stars)
March 26, 2019

Recipes are far more complicated than anticipated. For me, the use of the microwave is for convenience, and to dirty several bowls and pans in the making of the recipe negates the entire point. That the cooking time is reduced is really just secondary. Lots of measuring cup and bowls and pans to clean.

With a few adjustments it'll work fine.
by Nickel Speaks (3 out of 5 stars)

It was written way back in the 60's,but there are some good tips.My main complaint is that the servings are too small for a guy so big that his presence scares a lot of people. Then,I think that's got more to do with how much more we eat now anyway.

Great book, real recipes, perfect gift.

I usually gift this book to my single employees as a birthday or holiday gift, some take it with warming smile and only one got upset. The book is actually great (for real) but I am no longer with the company... ;)
