Product Description

Do you love networking to advance your career? Is adulthood an exciting new challenge for which you feel fully prepared? Ugh. Please go away.

2016 GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD WINNER FOR GRAPHIC NOVELS AND COMICS!

These casually drawn, perfectly on-point comics by the hugely popular young Brooklyn-based artist Sarah Andersen are for the rest of us. They document the wasting of entire beautiful weekends on the internet, the unbearable agony of holding hands on the street with a gorgeous guy, and dreaming all day of getting home and back into pajamas. In other words, the horrors and awkwardnesses of young modern life. Oh and they are totally not autobiographical. At all.

Adulthood Is a Myth presents many fan favorites plus dozens of all-new comics exclusive to this book. Like the work of fellow Millennial authors Allie Brosh, Grace Helbig, and Gemma Correll, Sarah's frankness on personal issues like body image, self-consciousness, introversion, relationships, and the frequency of bra-washing makes her comics highly relatable and deeply hilarious.

I'm just some random guy, I'm no good at reviews. The cover had a fuzzy sweater and the words inside made me laugh 5/5 stars.

The Perfect Book For Introverted Women
by Jonathan R (5 out of 5 stars)
July 21, 2016

I have been following Sarah's comics online for a while now and was excited to see that she was coming out with a book. This particular collection of comics is focused on relationships and women's issues (menstruation, style & such) but i still think any introverted individual will still really enjoy reading these comics. I recommend that you follow her on Instagram to see the rest of her comics. I enjoyed the comics so much that i finished reading them in one sitting.

Hilarious, and not only to women
by Brandon Northrup (5 out of 5 stars)
April 6, 2016

A lot of people think that this is a book that only females will enjoy, since a lot of it is directed toward things they go through that men don't. I'm a 21-year old male and I still think this book is hilarious.

A lot of the "scribbles" that involve introversion and pretty much just avoiding people in general definitely relate to me, and the female jokes are still funny to me, especially given that I grew up with 3 women and no men. I can sympathize and laugh at nearly anything in this book.

Why is she writing comics about me?
by Erin Penn (5 out of 5 stars)
March 18, 2018

If you have spent any time on the interwebs, you have had Sarah's Scribbles forward to you at least once. This lovely awkward, happy woman often pops up with words of silliness and wisdom in my Facebook stream.

I've enjoyed the webcomic enough I thought I would send the author a little support so she can continue to create more of these comics I've enjoyed so much therefore Book Was Purchased. (Make more Sarah Andersen, please.)
"Adulthood is a Myth" contained some old and NEW favorites. For example:
"So what are your hobbies?"
"Well I go on Wikipedia, and I'll read an interesting page and follow the links to OTHER cool pages ... then I'll read those. I could do it all day!" (other speaker response blank) Sara blinks before responding with a touch of confusion. "Is that not a valid hobby?"

If you would consider Wikipedia-rabbit-hole-exploration a valid hobby, then this book is for you!

Funny though
by Comma (5 out of 5 stars)

How can anyone not like her? My 9 yo somehow spotted this in the bookshelf and made dad read it to her and her sister before I knew what was going on. So I find the kids hugely enjoy this (husband is his usual enigma), and schlepp the book wherever they go. It has led to many demands for explanations. Why does she want to be in her Pjs all the time? Why will the cat not protect her? Why did the uterus bite her stomach? Good book to explain your kids the world and then some. Still sweating. Funny book though.

I can't even write a normal Amazon review. What's wrong with me?
by Jasmine (5 out of 5 stars)

Sarah Anderson gets me. For every grown adult out there there's one girl like me that's just so ill equipped for adulthood that it's comical. Fun book to keep your mind off that research paper, your non-existent 401K or your rapidly aging body and creaking joints... Oh My God. Did you know that your cells start dying faster than they're replenishing at age 25. I'M ACTUALLY DYING OH MY GOD I CAN SEE THE REFLECTION OF DEATHS SCYTHE IN THE CORNER OF MY EYE.

No. Wait... Nope, not my impending demise. just a quarter that fell on the floor. AWW look the book cover is fuzzy.

Humor You Can Identify With
by N. C. Weber (4 out of 5 stars)

I have always seen Sarah's comics floating around on social media, especially Tumblr. I've always found them entertaining. So, when I learned that she has a book available, I just had to check it out. I was not disappointed.

Sara Andersen's comic strips look at and lampoons the absurdities of everyday. You will see yourself, or someone you love, in these four panel anecdotes. The only complaint that you'll have is that the book ends too soon (but don't worry, there are more!).

Very relatable for all but the already-perfect
by Laura Carey,Top Contributor: Nail Art (5 out of 5 stars)
July 8, 2016

So relatable, for anyone except those who are perfect. If you're perfect, or if you have narcissistic personality disorder, you'll probably think this person is pathetic. If you're normal, and you weren't always picked first for sports, and you aren't always confident about your appearance and what to say to other people and how to muddle through the world, you'll think she's you, and indeed she is all of us.

Loved the book
by NoCleverPenName (4 out of 5 stars)
April 9, 2017

Loved the book, read it in one sitting as it's quite short. I can't say if everything in the book is already on Sarah's blog because I haven't read all of it, but there were definitely quite a few I've already seen. I don't regret the purchase - it's nice having a short collection of these in print. They're very relatable, humorous, and it's something light to read as a pick me up.

Totally Get This!
by DisneyDenizen (5 out of 5 stars)
January 3, 2019

Sarah Scribbles books are absolutely hilarious, following the antics of a neurotic yet totally lovable twenty-something woman and occasionally her tolerant and loving boyfriend. If you are female and at all quirky, you will recognize yourself in these books. If you are male and want to understand women better, this is one path to doing so.

I highly recommend this Sarah Scribbles book and the others in the series.
