Product Description
The “Danish coziness” philosophy is fast becoming the new “French living” in terms of aspirational lifestyle books and blogs. There are countless viral articles comparing the happiness levels of Americans versus Danes. Their homes are more homey; their people are more cheerful. It’s an attitude that defies definition, but there is a name for this slow-moving, stress-free mindset: hygge (pronounced “hoo-ga”). Hygge values the idea of cherishing yourself: candlelight, bakeries, and dinner with friends; a celebration of experiences over possessions, as well as being kind to yourself and treasuring a sense of community.
How to Hygge by chef and author Signe Johansen is a fresh, informative, lighthearted, fully illustrated how-to guide to hygge. It’s a combination of recipes, helpful tips for cozy living at home, and cabin porn: essential elements of living the Danish way―which, incidentally, encourages a daily dose of “healthy hedonism.” Who can resist that?

Don't let recipes deter you!by Jeenah S. (5 out of 5 stars)

I think those who discredit this for being more of a cookbook than a "lifestyle" book have missed the point of hygge and weren't paying attention to Johansen's writing. She constantly mentions food in each chapter and the vital role it plays into fueling an active lifestyle, maintaining a wholesome diet, how it brings loved ones together, how making more sustainable food choices affects nature and your body, etc. Simply put, the recipes are a big part of the book because it's a big part of hygge.
I also understand some of these ingredients aren't readily available at a local supermarket--but we're all on Amazon right now, aren't we? With it and the Internet with countless shops and stores and items online, we really don't have the excuse of saying, "This is just too exotic, I can't possibly find it, I can't possibly try this, it's too much work to find this."
Give it a shot! This is a great book with lovely insights, and I guarantee everyone will take something away from it.
Get comfortable and snuggle up with this book about "Danish coziness."

Get comfortable and snuggle up with this book about "Danish coziness." I swear I felt myself relax with every page! This book encourages the reader to eat well, get out in nature, find a sport to enjoy no matter your age and spend time with your "community." The Hygge principles pair beautifully with the Autoimmune Protocol lifestyle principles that I've embraced for years.
More Than Decor and Downtime

I got this from the library first and loved it so much I had to buy it. I enjoyed the author's focus on the outdoors, something often glossed over in other books on hygge, and her empowering take on life. She seems very at ease in her body, and her body positivity was bolstering and inspiring. Other books talk decor and downtime, which the author definitely covers as well; but I love how much further she took it.
Very cozy and calming read.

Beautiful book! I'm trying to incorporate some Hygge into my life and home without spending gobs of money...little things like clearing spaces, candles, lighter picture frames... These little things do make my home more cozy. But just reading the book alone makes you feel more relaxed and cozy. I really love the book and am sending to friends for gifts.

This is a life style guide with some recipes. I thought it was going to be a cookbook but instead got a whole host of life lessons presented in a practical and easy to understand manner. It will completely make you want to move to a Norwegian region or at minimum make you want to host your own dinner parties so that you can experience some of the coziness.

Great book! Hygge seems to be the word of 2017 and for me, to sit and leisurely flip through this beautifully photographed book offering ways to destress and relax in my own home is the ultimate! From recipes to tips on lighting and ambience to an explanation about why hygge is just so important, this book really is the perfect primer for anyone wanting to embrace a bit of hygge in their own life.
Informative but ininspiring

This book gives some interesting ideas and has some nice cosy-looking pictures. But, the text is small and the layout cramped, the recipes are a bit pretentious and lack the rustic simplicity of true Hygge cooking, and the author's tone is quite prescriptive. Overall, a worthwhile addition to my library, but I have more inspiring and approachable books on the subject.
Down to earth and enjoyable read! Highly recommend!

I bought this book out of curiosity on the topic of Hygge, and I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this author writing style! I expected a very touchy-feely book but ended up with a very well grounded, down to earth take on the subject that was very enjoyable! Definitely, recommend this book to anyone on the fence about exploring this topic.
