Beautiful illustrations and designs but with a problematic issueby iiiireader (4 out of 5 stars)

Attached to this review will be a silent flip-through of the entire coloring book so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not it will work for you.
Rather than discuss how this is like or different from the books and/or TV series, I will discuss only how I feel about it as an adult coloring book.
First of all, the illustrations are beautiful. I say illustrations rather than designs because a number of them appear to be finished ink and pen studies rather than designs that a colorist can finish and interpret in their own unique way. For those designs, I can't envision how I would color them (possibly with watercolors) but I certainly will try as I'm up for a challenge. Because of this, I detracted a star from my rating.
There are still many designs which I feel that I can, as a moderately experienced colorist and artist, be able to color and enjoy. For those, there are intricate details and I may need to use my magnifying lamp to work on those areas.
Physically, the book is very well made. The designs are printed on one side with excerpts from the books written on the back of the page. The pages are thick and white; however, they are not perforated. The binding is glued rather than sewn, so removing pages from the book will be a little more difficult. Most of the designs merge into the binding, but the portions that might be lost if I cut the pages out are not the central theme of the design.
None of my gel pens bled through to the back of the page. My colored pencils all worked well on the surface of the paper. My water-based markers did not leak through; however, my ultra-fine Sharpies and Copics did. In any case, I would recommend putting a waste sheet of some sort (chipboard, freezer paper, cardstock, etc.) under the page you are working on to keep ink from possibly getting on the following pages.
In summary, an interesting coloring book with some very colorist unfriendly but beautiful illustrations. The book is very well made but could be improved upon if the pages were perforated for easy removal.

Great book. detailed pictures. Wish it included more main characters. Hoping for a second book.
Fantastic detailed coloring book!

As a huge fan of adult coloring books and Game of Thrones, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this! The following are my pros and cons:
- 4/5 stars because there are no pictures of most of the main characters. If you're looking to color Jon Snow, Tyrion, Arya, Dany, etc. they will not appear here. I knew this going in because I read other reviews, however, and I still made the choice to buy. Which leads me to,
- The art is lovely. The artwork looks to be based off of the book series rather than the HBO series, which I wanted. This is the problem that I have with the very movie-oriented Harry Potter coloring book. There are many different categories of pictures from all over The Seven Kingdoms and beyond The Wall. There are character drawings: Cersei, Sansa, Loras, The Red Woman, Daario, Varys, Coldhands, Children of the Forest, Khal Drogo (presumably because of his braid), Giants and armies. There are also crests, banquets, weapons, direwolves, castles and strongholds. The details in most of these pictures are fantastic but a few are a little more crude than I'd like (such as Winterfell). Still, these pictures give you plenty of opportunity to fill in more details on your own.
- The paper is thick and the drawings are only on one side of the page. If you read reviews of other adult coloring books there are lots of complaints about the double sided drawings, because a lot of people like to use markers which would bleed through to the other side, forcing them to have to pick one side to color and ruin the other side. Some people also like to hang the finished pictures up which would also mean they would have to choose only one side. Each picture in this book is set alongside a quote describing the scene/character it is taken from, which I think is a great touch.
Overall I love this coloring book and would recommend to anyone who is a fan of George R.R. Martin's vivid and amazing world!
Great Book! Just enough detail to make it interesting

Great Book! Just enough detail to make it interesting, but not enough to hinder. There are a few illustrations that I will never color. That's just a fact. But it does have some really great ones.

I think the artwork in this book is gorgeous and as a fan of the book series it was what I expected. The problem is that I don't think the pieces were really created with colorists in mind and because of that I only gave this book 4 stars instead of the 5 it so rightly deserves. I will update this as I color in the book.

So I finished a piece in this book and the paper wound up being easy to work with. I did wind up taking the page out of the book though because the spine isn't as pliable as I would like. I think that this publisher could have done a better job with the book though because the glued binding was really a let down after seeing some other well made coloring books out there. Hopefully there will be another GoT coloring book that is made better but until then this one is not a bad choice for fans of the book series. Fans of the show will probably be off put by the fact that the images weren't drawn with the tv show in mind.

I love looking at them

I wanted to give this book 3 stars only b/c the pages aren't perforated. Since the images are printed almost up to the binding, removing the pages will probably be VERY difficult. I haven't colored in any of these pages yet simply b/c I'm not quite sure how to approach removing a page w/out damaging the image.
On the positive side: The pictures are printed on one side w/a brief paragraph &/quote on the back (unfortunately, though, the quotes describe the picture opposite &, once the page is removed, wouldn't appear near the described image unless you keep them in the book or one after the other). The book is shorter & slightly "longer" than the average coloring book, giving more space horizontally for the picture. The first portion of the book is dedicated to the shields of various houses, making them all very similar apart from the house emblem in the middle. Some of the pictures are very simplistic & they could be considered "easier' to color. Then there are some pictures that are so detailed & in-depth that it seems almost a shame to color them (in case you mess up!!).
One day, I'll color some pictures from this book. Until then, I love looking at them.

I pre-ordered two of these, one for myself and one for my daughter, who originally introduced me to the "Song of Ice and Fire" books, and even named one of her children after one of the characters in the series. I haven't started any of the pictures in it as yet, though I've targeted the lovely rendition of Highgarden as the one I'd like to do first. She started Melisandre's page and nearly finished it, though she is waiting to find a specific shade of red/orange/yellow to complete some of the flames. She actually saw a tri-colored pencil in the three versions of those colors that she wants to use, and will likely pick that up in the near future so she can complete the detail and move on to another. She said the drawings do go a bit further into the binding than she would like, and I can see by looking at it that she is correct; but that is certainly not serious enough to deter a person from using the book. The pictures are on the right-hand pages, with text on the left, so if anything bleeds through the (fairly heavy) pages, it won't go into another picture. A sheet or two of paper wedged between the picture you're doing and the next one will prevent any 'bleed' onto the next page. As to the paper weight, it feels like about a 60- or 70-lb. text; so it isn't quite a 110-lb index card stock, but it is still much more generous than the 24-pound bond that seems to comprise many books. Several artists have contributed to the drawings, so there is a nice variety of drawing styles throughout the book.
Beautiful book but not what I wanted or expected.

I was expecting so much more. I wanted more characters to color, not page after page of emblems & decorations. It's still a beautiful book but not what I was expecting.
Each page has text written on the other side so if you color with marker, gel pens or use watercolors it will ruin the text. The pages are not perforated for removal. The paper is good quality but you will need to put something between them if using markers or gel pens.
I will more than likely not color this & just keep it for my collection. It is a beautiful book but not my taste for coloring.

A MUST for fans of the ASOIAF series or TV show

I received this as a Christmas gift, and as a huge fan of both the book series and TV show, I absolutely LOVE this coloring book! There are 45 incredibly detailed scenes, including an assortment of house sigils, characters (Cersei, Loras, Varys, Drogon), castles, and many of the fantastical creatures and objects from this world (dragon eggs, the Iron Throne, giants, children of the forest, weirwood trees). What I really love about this coloring book as that the scenes are true to the book series as opposed to the TV show... no offense to the show (of which I am also a fan), but I was excited to see the Iron Throne drawn as the behemoth it is described as in the novels instead of the watered-down version presented in the shows. Perhaps a fan of the show that has never read the novels would be better served with some of the other coloring books on Amazon that feature the likenesses of the actors. This coloring book also has relevant quotes from the novels opposite each scene. This is my first coloring book as an adult, and has caused me to embrace this hobby as a terrific stress-reliever. I find myself reaching for this coloring book in my leisure time quite often. This coloring book would be a welcome gift to anyone who is a GoT fan, *even* one who might not be into adult-coloring books (yet).
