Product Description
Conceived as the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star battle station is equipped with a planet-shattering superlaser. The station is heavily shielded, defended by TIE starfighters and laser cannons, and invested with firepower greater than that of half the Imperial fleet. The Empire’s diabolical leaders have every reason to believe that their technological terror will induce fear across the galaxy. But the Death Star has one flaw. This Haynes Manual traces the origins of the Death Star, from concept to a top-secret project that begins before the foundation of the Empire, which draws design inspiration from the Trade Federation’s spherical warships. In this manual, the Death Star’s onboard systems and controls are explained in detail, and are illustrated with an astonishing range of computer-generated artwork, floor plans, cutaways, and exploded diagrams, all newly created by artists Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas—the same creative team behind the Millennium Falcon Owner’s Workshop Manual. Text is by their Falcon colleague Ryder Windham, author of more than fifty Star Wars books.
Covering history, development and prototyping, superstructure, energy and propulsion, weapons and defensive systems, hangar bays, security, service and technical sectors, crew facilities, and with information about the Death Star II and its planetary shield generator, this is the most thorough technical guide to the Death Star available.
This Haynes Manual is fully authorized and approved by Lucasfilm.
Praise for Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual
“As an all-in-one resource for the Death Star, the Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual is the book to turn to. It’s a wealth of information on one of the most iconic ships from the Star Wars films.”—Roqoo Depot
“For a casual fan, there’s all sorts of neat trivia that will keep anyone’s attention. For a fleet junkie, the book is a huge wealth of knowledge that you’ll come back to scan again and again. The Haynes Death Star Owner’s Technical Manual is a fun and brilliant read. Go pick it up.”—Tosche Station

A book that will make "Star Wars" fans feel like Rebel spiesby Lee Kirby,Top Contributor: Batman (5 out of 5 stars)
November 20, 2016
"Entertainment Weekly" film critic Anthony Breznican wrote one year ago that the difference between the "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" franchises is that "Trek" appeals to the head, while "Wars" appeals to the heart.
"Star Wars: Death Star Technical Manual" definitely appeals to the head. Copiously illustrated with cutaway drawings, floor plans, diagrams and stills from the various "Star Wars" films, writer Ryder Windham explains in detail-without ever lapsing into technobabble and becoming boring-the Empire's ultimate weapon, including its onboard systems and controls.
It also traces the Death Star's history from concept to a top-secret project that began in the time of the "SW" prequel trilogy, before the Old Republic's fall and the Empire's rise. (The Trade Federation's spherical warships, seen in "The Phantom Menace," provided the inspiration for the Empire's technological terror.)
The book also covers briefly, toward its end, the unfinished Death Star II seen in "Return of the Jedi."
With the impending theatrical release of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," "Star Wars: Death Star Technical Manual" is highly recommended as a Christmas gift for "Star Wars" fans. Holding this book in their hands, they may even feel like Rebel spies possessing the Death Star's design schematics.

It's okay . . . but the preventative maintenance schedule is a lot different than what the owners manual says.
And c'mon, really? Who's going to change out the main reactor in a 40 year old space station? Where are you even going to find one? A bit beyond the level of competence for people who typically buy a Haynes shop manual.

Only gripe is the diagrams are obscured by the book-binding, this makes it hard to read them. A better page layout would correct this.
Otherwise, excellent!
Oh and this was published in 2012, it does not cover material in Rogue-1. That's fine I knew that when I ordered, however fans should be aware.
Interesting, but dated.

Please note that this book contains nothing that was seen in Rogue One. The book was published in 2013, but for some reason wasn't available until more recently.

I wish they'd make manuals like this for other craft in the saga. Just like the real world Haynes books, this manual covers everything you'd want to know and then some about the infamous Death Star. There was tons of info I've never read elsewhere which is what I look for in these manuals. The technical possibilities of Star Wars amaze me and this book provides hours of excitement.

The Death Star Imperial DS-1 Orbital Battle Station Owner's Technical Manual written by Ryder Windham, Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas is pretty much the ultimate guide to the Death Star. And a lovely technical deatails discriptions about this mighty battle station and massive gunship. This book has as much visual information as it does written info, not to mention some of the best Death Star artwork to date in a Star War guide.
A true fasinating book.
