Volume I covers the founding of the United States to the end of Reconstruction and demonstrates how America's founding principles evolved significantly due to a variety of cultural, political, and economic factors. Volume II follows the end of Reconstruction, covering issues such as the expansion of industry, increased immigration, and the perceived moral decline of society, and how these all conributed to the adjustment and realignment of America's founding ideals, especially during the course of the 20th century.
