Like the rest of the work by this fine band, The Gospel Collection by Balsam Range (on Mountain Home, 2019) is more of the excellent bluegrass music listeners have come to expect from such seasoned and popular professionals. While the choice of songs and overall feel of the music remains fairly traditional (not unusual for a collection of Gospel tunes), the musicianship and vocals are outstanding, and almost anywhere, a breakout solo on any one of the instruments is apt to stand out as particularly inventive and innovative, adding some bright, tasty spice notes to the otherwise traditional fare. This is absolutely top-notch stained glass bluegrass, and a bargain for fourteen outstanding tunes at standard ten-songs-per-album prices ($9.49 for the MP3 download).
