Editorial Reviews

Written and produced by Michael Gira, Leaving Meaning is Swans fifteenth studio album and features contributions from recent and former Swans, members of Angels of Light as well as guest artists Anna and Maria von Hausswolff, Ben Frost, The Necks, Baby Dee, and a Hawk and a Hacksaw.Michael Gira explains, "Leaving Meaning is the first Swans album to be released since I dissolved the lineup of musicians that constituted Swans from 2010 - 2017. Swans is now comprised of a revolving cast of musicians, selected for both their musical and personal character, chosen according to what I intuit best suits the atmosphere in which I'd like to see the songs I've written presented. In collaboration with me, the musicians, through their personality, skill and taste, contribute greatly to the arrangement of the material. They're all people whose work I admire and whose company I personally enjoy.

Swans continues to evolve and I love it. The 2nd track Annaline revisits the days of Angels of Light sound but remains Swans. The song It’s Coming It’s Real builds and doesn’t disappoint. Instead of an exploding orgasm like many of their songs this one is right on the edge and keeps you there. The new take on Amnesia is brilliant too. Like many Swans albums, I have to have several listens to appreciate the layers of sound and texture. One of my top 5 by them for sure.

Great sounding pressing. Very solid. Delivered quickly.

Astounding, serves as a wise and transcendent epilogue to Gira's trilogy (The Seer, To Be Kind, The Glowing Man) and the start of a new age for the band as they transition into something new.

I saw this lineup of Swans live. They destroyed me. I had vertigo for 72 hours straight. It was worth it. There's so much power and emotion in what they do.

This work of art gives me goosebumps. Lock yourself in a dark room and listen to this with headphones and let it take you far, far away.

5.0 out of 5 stars New World Order

5.0 out of 5 stars SWANS INSUPERABILI, SE NON DA LORO STESSI!
Reviewed in Italy on April 19, 2020
Che dire, Micheal Gira riesce a superarli a ogni disco. Ha cambiato completamente i collaboratori eppure ha un suono riconoscibilissimo e originale. Inutile pagare di un brano o di un altro. L'ennesimo capolavoro!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album

This is the sort of album that begs to be listened to from start to finish. It is a long album but well worth the time spent. I've only started buying Swans albums for a couple of years, and have a lot still missing from my collection. This makes me want to buy all their others, and yesterday!
