- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2019This camera is a great value! I am going to walk you through my experience from start to finish. The nitty gritty of how well this camera works is down further. I have inserted some *TIPS* that I thought would have been helpful to me ahead of time.
First, the packaging is very good and so are the instructions. It comes with everything you need to setup and install this camera, including a cement drill bit (very thoughtful). Setting up the camera was a breeze. *TIP*: Set it up in the comfort of your home first. I chose to use a card for internal memory rather than pay for the cloud service. After I installed the card, I plugged the camera in then scanned the QR code on the instruction manual to get the app. *TIP*: You need the app to get the camera setup.
The app was excellent for setting up the camera. It held my hand and quickly got the camera up and running within minutes. *TIP*: If you are using a memory card, the app will not prompt you to format the card. You have to look for that under General settings. Not a big deal but with all of the thoughtful features, it would be nice that it prompted you and told you where to look. *TIP*: It will take a few minutes to format the memory card. After that, you will want to upgrade the firmware which also takes a few minutes to complete. You can't do both (format and update) at the same time.
*TIP*: Turn off motion detection right away, if you don't it will send you many notifications as you are installing it. *TIP*: Before drilling any holes, make sure you have enough power cable to reach where you want the camera and that you have adequate internet connection (if using WiFi). *TIP*: Power the unit on and place the camera where you want it to ensure it covers the areas you want to see. I installed it alone, but it would have been helpful to have another person with you so that you can see what the camera sees as you manipulate the camera.
Okay, so to the meat and potatoes. The clarity of the video/images is amazing! I grabbed an image from the camera and attached it. Right now it's 18 degrees outside with hazy sun under mostly cloudy skies. I had a chance to see both a daylight and night view. Where I live, it's pitch black with no outside lights on such as street lights or lights from homes. I could easily see what was out there. It was super easy to choose what tiles to use for the motion detection. The motion detection can be very sensitive. It was about 10 degrees last night and the dryer vent is about 10 feet away at about the same level as the camera. The steam from the dryer was enough to trigger the motion detection. BUT, I could turn down the sensitivity to eliminate that false trigger. BUT, it's still sensitive enough to detect the motion of a person or vehicle. While on the same WiFi network, there is no lag in seeing the video. I tested using a cellular connection and noticed a very slight lag. The speaker is clear enough to get basic communication from you to the person on the camera. The microphone seems excellent in that I could easily hear everything outside. Once motion is detected, it takes a minute or two to see the actual recording. You can download the video to your phone or take a snapshot. The specs say the camera can operate down to about 14 degrees, but last night it was down to 10 and it still worked, but then again, my camera is right up under the soffit so there may be some slight heat coming from that. You get a 14 day free trial for cloud storage. And with all of the issues with the Ring camera being hacked, it seems like the way this camera is setup would greatly reduce that issue.
Overall, this camera exceeded my expectations and I am planning to buy at least one or two more!

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020This review is for the Netview Vigil Cam. I have only had this camera for about a week, but have been testing it quite a lot. I am very pleased with the picture quality and the night vision. The resolution is very good, and stays good when you zoom in, and the night vision range and clarity is good. The WiFi range seems pretty good. It has been mounted on the garage about 60 feet from the house.
I was somewhat concerned about its ability to operate a low temperatures. I live in Montana, and we always get plenty of below zero weather, sometimes down around 30 below. My concern was that the specifications for operating temperature are inconsistent and even inaccurate depending on where you look. (This is also true for other security cams I looked at on Amazon.) On the description page they show a range of -4 to 122 F. On the Quick Guide they say it is only good down to 14 above F. Some reviewers on You Tube state a low of 50 F! I did get an answer from a user who said his was fine down to Zero, so I thought I'd give it a try.
So far the coldest I have used it was 12 below F, and it has not missed a beat. In a few days we are forecast to get 20 below, so we'll see if it hangs in there. I have not tried the motion detection yet, as it is not something I will use much, and the wind has been blowing constantly, which would set it off due to movement of the trees and such.
The case and mount are apparently aluminum with a thick powder coat. It seems sturdy and durable. It is easy to adjust the angles of the camera in three places to aim it where you want, and still keep the picture level..... with one exception: They should have placed the antenna connection on the top of the back side of the case instead of to one side. As it is, it usually interferes with access to one of the setscrews that you use to rotate the body of the camera on its mount. That is a hassle, because you cannot attach the antenna after setting the angles. You have to move the mount to one side to screw the antenna on, and once it is on, it covers one of setscrews. Lots of trial and error involved, because you really need to use your phone to view the picture to set it up, so the antenna needs to be on.
Two other complaints: The App is not so good. The Netview app is the only one that works with this cam, and it is somewhat troublesome. A bigger issue is that you cannot view the camera on your PC. There should be an app so you don't have to use only your phone. Those issues are not deal breakers for me, and with the good picture quality, sound quality, and sturdy adjustable mount, I am pleased overall.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2020Received the camera for Christmas. Linking the camera to my network was pretty easy by scanning the QR code I was initially concerned that it would lose connectivity when I unplugged it to go outside and install it in my garden. It linked again with no difficulty. The phone app is very user friendly.
I’m still working on determining sleep mode times and how much notifications I want to receive since my dogs have the run of the garden.
Although I was worried about the fact the camera must be plugged in to an electrical source (the camera is a distance from the house) the compatible extension “cord” I purchased is thin and was able to slide it in plastic tubing to protect it from excess moisture and “critters”.
A good value! Also like that I can view camera activity via my Alexa show when my phone isn’t handy.
