- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023I have read and reread these two books several times and have enjoyed them each time. The approach that Harari takes in his descriptions of how we got here writ large, while maybe not unique as others have pointed out, is compelling and informative. His notion that virtually everything that we take for granted in our world - society, government, religion, relationships, etc. are rooted in the distant past when homo sapiens developed the capacity for imagination! For example: our traffic laws are not tangible, they are not natural, they did not emerge sui generis from the world in which we live. They are the product of our collective imagination and agreement on their real world application. Anyway, he has a great deal to say, and what he says is exceedingly readable. Homo Deus attempts to look forward to where we are going as a species and I believe is very insightful. While I have an advanced degree, it does not require one to understand what Harari is getting at. If you read these books you will see the world and yourself very differently when you finish them. Take the leap, get these books, improve your life (even if it is only your own internal landscape).
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2022Highly recommend reading the first 30 pages of Homo Deus then the Sapiens backstory.
The most succinct thought provoking books I have ever read. I am a finance/economics/high technology major with coursework in anthropology/archeology including extensive studies of all religions, political science and life sciences emphasing genetics and crispr cas9.
The teachings of these books evoked several moments of aniexty (I buy-in 98%). Currently retired at 68, if I read these perspectives today as a 22 year old, it would have changed my investment strategies and led me to pursue multiple career pathes expecting to live well over a 100 years.
Moving forward, I will empirically judge new changes in Humankind Culture around the globe as an affirmation or redirection of Harari's projected evolution...very exciting and interesting!
Vicariously my nephew is starting his residency specializing in radiology which l think will be a significant component of "our" hypothetical bridge from Sapiens to Deus?
Analogous, Harari presents a detailed map of current flow on the imaginary "Humanism River" with 3 tributaries (liberalism, socialism & evolutionism). With your new perspectives, you can exercise imagined "free will" by actively navigating the waters, building a dam or portaging across the continental divide to a new river...no matter your decision, you will be a "wiser man".
Enjoy!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2022These seem to have the content of the real books, however they seem to be low-quality prints of the real versions. Pages all seem to be run through a photocopier, with images blurry and text fuzzy. The text on the cover pages are off center and crooked. That being said, the text seems to all be there and legible so while it ain't pretty, it does the job.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2024After seeing yet another TV interview with Harari, and because of Fareed Zakaria's glowing review, I decided to get this two-volume edition. The price was right and the package came in record time, well insulated from harm. Now I can start reading the first volumne, "Sapiens."

- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2024I have only begun to read Homo Deus which I will follow with Sapiens but I am looking forward to both of them. World wide sales of these books tells the story.
