Oasis OH-5+ Guitar Humidifier

The Oasis OH-5+ humidifier is designed to be used in areas where the humidity is below 25%. If your instrument is already properly humidified, the

OH-5+ will maintain your guitar's humidity in a range between 40-60%. Be sure to refill the OH-5+ not less than once a week (5 days is preferred) as the humidifier will evaporate about 2 cc's per day, so half the water in the humidifier will be gone in 7 days. The OH-5+ comes with the standard blue guitar support to keep the humidifier stable between the 3rd and 4th string. We recommend this be used for an arched top guitar case where there is room for the black cap of the humidifier to extend beyond the top of the strings. If you have a flush top case like a Martin, the cap will press against the top of the case and may put downward pressure on the strings. If you prefer to avoid this, we recommend the OH-32 humidifier which is designed for either flush top cases or ukuleles. The humidifiers are identical, but the stabilizer bars are different. The ukulele stabilizer allows the humidifier to be positioned below the strings.

The humidifier is loaded with .6 cc's of Humigel crystals which will protect the humidifier from leaks. The Humigel crystals will deteriorate over time, so it is EXTREMELY important to replace the crystals once a year. You do this by taking the humidifier to the kitchen sink and filling it with water. Then, turn it over and squeeze the sides to eject the gel. Repeat this process 4-5 times and then hold the bottom of the humidifier up to a light source and look down through the opening at the top to make sure all the crystals have been ejected. After that, add 4 scoops (.6cc's) of crystals from a Humigel Replacement kit. Fill with distilled water and you will be ready for another year of using the OH-5+ humidifier.

I have 4 ukuleles that are valuable. I find them easy to use reason being to keep them from cracking from dryness. I loosen the strings way out of “tuning tight” and after filling the little cylinder with deionized water (available at most grocery stores for a dollar a gallon) in order to prevent any calcium build up from calcium within the cylinder and shorten its usefulness. I have had and still use identical brands and never had to replace the cilucal beads. They seem to need refills every 2 weeks where I’m at. Lasts longer in my experience than ones that are plastic with sponge inside. Good insurance for ukuleles and such stringed instruments.

    I have had no issues at all with this humidifier. Easy to use and fill. Sometimes I set it in the strings as intended but mostly I set it in the case because I'm lazy. I keep a hygrometer in the case also to keep an eye on things. I like how it shrivels so you know it's time to refill.

    I guess it works. There is no way to confirm it has increased the humidity inside the ukulele, but the water inside seems to be evaporating since the fullness of the bag is decreasing. I refill it with distilled water every few days even though it is kept in a case.
