Editorial Reviews
Michael Schenker is a legendary figure in rock, one of the most gifted and influential guitarists of all time. His work with Scorpions, UFO and the Michael Schenker Group made him a hero to millions of fans and inspired a generation of musicians, including Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, Kirk Hammett of Metallica, and Slash of Guns N' Roses. And with Michael Schenker Fest, an ambitious and unorthodox project featuring four singers with whom he has worked since 1979 - Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, Robin McAuley and Doogie White - the drive to create new music is based on the same ethos that has shaped Schenker's whole career, ever since he recorded his first album "Lonesome Crow" with the Scorpions in 1970 at age 15.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2019Please disregard the other misguided reviews. This is another great album. Here we have the major vocalists of his career adding different textures to Michael's music. It is especially gratifying to have Gary Barden and Graham Bonnett, singers on MSG's first 3 iconic albums collaborate. Doogie (I love his Dioesque songs) and Robin are both golden voiced screamers. Robin's songs show great improvement working with the other talents. Michael's solos soar. There are 13 strong songs with a crisp and bright production (maybe the Japanese import has bad sound) and Michael's signature sound. There are not too many bands putting out hard rock like this (Judas Priest and Accept come to mind) Micheal Schenker Fest is one of the best. Highly Recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2019Any new Michael Schenker release is worthy of celebration. This one continues the guitarist’s MS FEST concept... in which he collaborates with most of his prior singers (Barden, Bonnet, McAuley, White) on new material. The concept is successful once again (this is the second album by the team). The music is melodic hard rock with a European flavor. Schenker plays admirably... the production is good... and the songs are solid. My personal preference are the McAuley collaborations. There are one or two tracks where all singers sing on the same song. If you like Schenker’s work, you should not be disappointed!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2020First couple plays in car CD player and I would agree with other mediocre reviews. However, been listening with some Sennheiser HD-1's and now the muddy production/over powering kick bass is reduced allowing me to hear the music. Most every song is very melodic and the singers voices are well matched to the guitar and synth tones. And most importantly, I can hear the solos! This would easily be a 5 star album if the mix was done so it sounded good on most peoples Hi-Fi systems.... Anyway, I'm really enjoying each play more and more!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2019I have enjoyed listening to Michael Schenker since ufo. His melodic lines are not to be believed! We won't even begin with his speed, tasteful as it is. Purely ingenious. If you love the man, give it a try
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2019I love schenker ever since 1974 ,the more I listen to this cd the more I love it,people seem to pick it apart but Michael Schenker is still one the greatest guitarists ever !
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2020The first song 'Rock Steady' is the only weak song on this album, but it is the opening track and was the first single released so it is a major misstep. The first song must always be one that encourages listening on further, much like the opening words and pages of a novel. Look at any of you favorite records and they will start with a great first song, even if the best songs are the second or third tracks.
Overall, I enjoy 8 of 13 songs as good while 4 others are okay.
Same concept of multiple Schenker past singers of Doogie White, Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, Robin Mcauley with one guest singer Ronnie Romero on 'We Are the Voice'.
I find that the vocal arrangement style on songs that had multiple singers follows the baton handoff style of the last record where one singer takes a few lines then the next, and so on. There are some background vocals. The handoff style does flow and work better than the last record and they all blend together well. However, the vocal arrangements are not as complex or interesting as they could be. Listen to the vocal arrangement of a song like "California Dreaming" and one can see what is possible with vocal arrangements. Ronnie Romero does okay, but sounds a bit like producer Michael Voss on vocals in my opinion. I would say that the vocalists / vocals may save the record despite many issues on this front, particularly with weak lyrics on a few songs. Overall, they all did a good job and all sound pretty good. Doogie White may be asked to sing high and to me it tends to be a bit too high and too much, not as good as previous songs he did with Schenker. I do not understand the criticism others have of Gary Barden and Graham Bonnet. Both performed admirably in their parts. The two best songs on here in my opinion are the Graham Bonnet ones 'The Beast in the Shadows' that is excellent and 'Still in the Fight' that is very good.
'The Beast in the Shadows' should be on the radio because it is that good. The Barden helmed 'Crazy Daze' is also very good. There are more songs on this album that have the multi vocalists and they are very good, in particular 'Silent Again' and 'Old Man'. The only instrumental is 'Ascension'. It is very good, but not essential Schenker like 'Into the Arena' or 'Lipstick Traces on an empty Glass'.
On musicianship, there is not as much as usual that makes you want to pick up a guitar, bass, or drum sticks and learn something, which is unusual for Schenker material. He does less timing changes it seems and is not writing as catchy of riffs for some reason.
In an interview, he said he goes to a tape of recorded riffs / ideas and basically the next 12 become the next 12 songs. He should really be using the next 40 ideas to make the next 12 songs in my opinion and not hold back.
While the tracks are generally upbeat / uptempo in nature, Schenker seems not to be varying his attack / strumming and tone much so sonically it may get repetitive and sound less inspired than it could if he got some input from bandmates and a stronger producer. This opinion comes from a non-musician / former musician that has not played guitar but seen and heard the best enough times to know that schenker is capable of much more but cannot see or hear that he is missing the mark becuase he is too close to it all.
Michael Schenker should not be producing his own records and Michael Voss is perhaps a friend and person to work with on demos, but in my opinion not the person to produce Schenker's records. Take a song like 'Saturday Night' on 'Temple of Rock' and it is an example of catchy classic music with interesting riffs and great musicianship that missed the mark only slightly becuase of the singing and Michael Voss sang over one really great instrumental section that in the early released video he did not sing over and you could hear the instrumentation. It was a bad production choice. Where is Dieter Dierks that Schenker cannot work with him? Retired, too wealthy and successful, or out of the music business?
Other thoughts: I wish Schenker would write and record with Pete Way some more and I would be interested to hear more of Jeff Martin on drums. Bodo Schopf does okay, perhaps better than Simon Phillips on this record, but it is probably Schenker and Voss to blame for not giving them more complex and varying drum work to play. Maybe they should try some marches and different drum beats to mix it up?
While wishing for Schenker to work with others to broaden his horizons, I believe it would be interesting for him to work with Doro Pesch again to maybe have her do some duets with the guys. There is one song out there with her singing a song with Schenker on some compilation...
On this album, there are some short outro guitar solos that fade out on some songs... how about more of these that are a bit longer and how about some into solos that are truly inspired.
How long can Schenker keep this coalition of the willing working with him?
I suspect all four singers recognize their legacy lies with working with Schenker (although the Rainbow work from Doogie and Bonnet will live on too as will Bonnet's Alcatraz work). but they are not getting together in a studio after a live performance to get more of a live group feel to the recordings, but rather sending things from Los Angeles to Germany, etc. using separate studios.
Robin Mcauley sounded okay on this album and the lyrics were good on 'Lead you Astray' whereas they are usually not great from him - more miss than hit in my opinion over the years. But he is now doing the Black Swan Project and this may take him away from working with Schenker. Lyrics are rather weak on that project it seems to me.
Good to see Michael Schenker is happy and very productive and Revelation continues on where Resurrection left off.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Follow Up To Resurrection
Hard to believe a second studio release has been issued and it doesn't disappoint. This album rocks showcasing all the singer from Resurrection as well as Ronnie Romero (Rainbow) who sings on a track. The album is very up tempo and a little heavier than the last. Let's hope another tour follows this tour as the Resurrection tour was outstanding. Who knows how much longer this band will last or if Michael will switch back course to the Temple of Rock. Either way both are excellent showcasing one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time who unlike most still tours religiously.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for any fan of Schenker.
Another strong release by Michael Schenker and his dynamic vocalists. Is it better than his last release, well not really but it is just as good. So it is a must for any fan of good rock and roll.
