How to Get Rid of the Burlap Smell?

To make burlap, jute batching oil has to be used to treat fiber and this process makes burlap smell like kerosene. It does no harm but the smell might be unpleasant to some people. You can get rid of the smell using one of the following methods.

  • Leave the burlap in a well-ventilated and dry area outdoors and let the fabric air out
  • Sprinkle baking soda onto the burlap, let it sit for an hour, and shake out the baking soda
  • Dampen a towel or rag with water and very little soap or detergent and rub the burlap down
  • Spray some fabric refresher and let it air out
