Nitrocellulose
First... do your research and know what your are getting into with nitrocellulose. It takes some effort, a little knowledge, and a long off gassing period of at least a few months. It has strong VOC (fumes). I knew that, and so should you. I purchased Mohawk nitro after trying another brand of nitrocellulose laquer. The other brand is known for guitar finishing. Even though my house is climate controlled and low humidity, the other brand, blushed and turned white very bad. This ruined the guitar finish and costed me 50 in materials and about 4 hours sanding down the guitar. The Mohawk brand was my final effort to do nitrocellulose. It turned out beautiful! I still have yet to polish it, but it's already very pleasing.

I used this product for the final finish of a guitar that I completely stripped and refinished. I first created a burst finish using both stain and paint, then applied a couple light coats of spray glitter. This created a textured finish that concerned me, as the final product needed to be smooth as glass. This Mohawk Clear Gloss Lacquer worked like a champ. I used about a can and a half - 30 to 40 light coats applied over a week or so. I would let it dry for about an hour or so between coats. I ended up with a nice glossy, smooth, but pebbled surface. I then wet sanded going from 800 to 3000 grit using a block. This product added a perfect gradual thickness that allowed me to sand the surface level without going through the lacquer layer. After buffing with a gentle rubbing compound, I was left with a beautiful shimmering glass like nitro finish. I've used other similar products. This one is much better. I can't recommend this product enough.

Adding too much causes clouding. Clouding does not fade with application of flash coat with retardant. Required removal with lacquer thinner and respraying. Had high hopes, but disappointed with clouding. Takes patience and some practice to get great results. Allow two hours or more to dry between coats does the trick. (Southwest climate 80°, 30% humidity).
Trying other brands to see if they are less likely to cause clouding. Been spraying guitars for a over a decade, first time to experience a clouding problem.

This stuff is a total nightmare. Highly recommend staying with polyurethane spray instead. Tried to isolate the cause of it turning chalky and it seems to be totally unpredictable. Thought it might be the stain. Nope, turned chalky with no stain. Humidity? Nope, Have applied in very dry conditions and and humid conditions and still get chalky spots. Can you rub out problem spots with lacquer thinner and repair? nope good luck it will turn even more chalky and look terrible. Does it provide a durable coating for applications like cabinet boxes. Nope. Oil based poly is probably like10 times more durable. Some wood trim I have sprayed looks pretty darn good and no chalky spots at all. I have sprayed thin coats and thick coats. I had pieces that were fine for like 3 weeks and then all of a sudden chalky spots showed up. Some things are impossible to repair like veneers that cannot be sanded or they will be ruined so you will be sol in some cases. Do not use this product unless you like wasting time and money and enjoy stressing out about when or if it will turn chalky and be ruined. If you want a similar product in rattle can that is reliable, minwax oil based spray poly is a good product that I have never seen turn chalky like this garbage.

Used this for a drop-fill repair on a nitro finish guitar. It blended well with this original finish. Sprayed onto a pallet surface then took from that to do the drop-fill. Unfortunately, I rushed on one or two of the layers and incurred bubbles. So, when using this for drop fill be sure to let the bubbles generated from the spray to dissipate. Maybe I missed it in my search, though it would have been nice to have a small, liquid container vs spray - definitely more than I need and not exactly suited for my use-case.

    Good purchase; would recommend

Works the way it is intended. Must be careful to by the right sanding sealer as there is one for the Finisher's Choice and a different sanding sealer for the pre cat finish which I bought but did not use because the sanding sealer was not compatible.
I think it is a bit expensive for 13oz.

Used to repair a ding on a guitar neck. Worked well. Note : Make sure you have good polishing compounds of different grit like the ones from StewMac (ColorTone) to blend the edges and any rises at the repair spot after it dries.
