Product Description
Ken Marks (Kenn Scott, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze) finds a dangerous enemy on his first day at his new school; an enemy who makes his living as the champion of an illegal fighting operation. School janitor and ex-cop Billy Grant (Billy Blanks, The Last Boy Scout) trains Ken to defend himself. What Billy doesn't know is that the man behind it all is the one man from his past who wants him dead. This classic martial arts blockbuster from the director of Best of the Best features an all-star cast that includes Christine Taylor (The Wedding Singer), Patrick Kilpatrick (Death Warrant), James Lew (Best of the Best) and Brion James (Blade Runner) in the movie the proves there's not a problem in the world that a good roundhouse kick to the face can't solve.
Review
Showdown is just undeniably derivative, as its creative crew kind of cheekily admits outright in some of the supplements included on this disc. And in fact it's those very supplements that may well be the biggest selling points to at least some interested consumers, as the "Making Of" and "Fights" featurettes are both consistently interesting, as are the accompanying separate interviews with Blanks and Radler. --Blu-ray.com

- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2024It was filmed at an abandoned high school in Paradise Hills Arizona in the early 90's.
I was in the crowd watching the school fight when Keneth beats him up. It was so hilarious being there
because it was so fake and most everyone had a hard time laughing because they were supposed to give a reaction. The director was like 'c'mon you guys need to see some reactions here because this is a school fight! You dig this stuff!'
Interesting experience. Was very cool to see Brian James on the set for sure!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2023As a fan of action movies and martial arts films, I was thrilled to discover the "Showdown" Special Edition on Blu-ray. This is the ultimate tribute to the genre, packed with explosive fights, thrilling chases, and heart-stopping stunts.
The plot follows Billy Ray Smith (Billy Blanks), a former cop turned bounty hunter, as he tracks down a gang of ruthless criminals responsible for the death of his partner. Along the way, he enlists the help of his old friend, martial arts master Ken Marx (Ken McLeod), and together they take on the bad guys in a series of brutal battles.
The action in "Showdown" is non-stop, with each fight scene more intense than the last. The choreography is top-notch, and the performers are all skilled martial artists who bring a level of authenticity to the action. Blanks and McLeod have great chemistry as the dynamic duo, and their banter provides a much-needed dose of humor in between the fights.
The special features on this Blu-ray are also impressive. There are interviews with the cast and crew, behind-the-scenes footage, and even a commentary track with director Robert Radler. It's clear that a lot of love and care went into putting together this special edition, and it shows in the quality of the final product.
If you're a fan of action and martial arts movies, "Showdown" is a must-see. This special edition on Blu-ray is the perfect way to experience the film, with its crisp picture quality and extensive bonus features. It's a worthy addition to any movie collection, and a fitting tribute to the genre.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2012I bought this from Amazon a few weeks ago, and it is perfect! Brand new, sealed and in mint condition! I recorded this on VHS when it came out on TV. I have watched it so many times since then, that the sound eventually gave out. I have looked for years trying to find this and I finally got it! I couldn't be happier! It's a great movie with a great message. :)
From IMDB:
Ken has just moved from Kansas with his mother. He talks to a girl named Julie, not knowing that her boyfriend Tom is very possessive of her. Tom is learning karate from Lee, a sensei whose brother was killed by a rookie cop named Billy. Billy has since then become the janitor of the school that Ken, Julie and Tom go to.
When Ken gets beaten up by Tom for talking to Julie again, Billy helps Ken by teaching him how to defend himself, which eventually leads to a battle between student vs. student, and sensei vs. sensei. Written by JoshForman@aol.com
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2020The film is follows a familiar formula. It has a darker tone at times than The Karate Kid, but it still has some of those same themes. This is one of the best martial arts B-movies from this era. Is it original? No. Is it a blast? Absolutely. The cast and crew do a great job and really convey the story well. The Bluray looks great. The picture is great. The extra features are really good and give fans a great insight into the making of this film. A great addition for any collector or fan of martial arts movies.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2013I bought this intending to obviously pop in the dvd player and watch, but we cant watch it on dvd player because it is made for a different country, so I am disappointed. I should have read the description better I guess, but I was so excited that it had billy blanks in it that I wanted it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019Love this movie used to have on video then hard to find but finally on combo bluray and extra scenes and making off. This should be done years ago. But love billy blanks as well as tc 2000 and expect no mercy and two young guys fighting it out in the arena and school what an era year back then it was and the beloved late Brion James god bless him too. Maybe do a sequel to this one love to see that.
