Product Description
John Candy is bigger, better and more bumbling than ever as the hilarious Harry Crumb - a big-hearted, soft-headed private eye and mixed-up master of disguise. When Harry, the last of the great sleuthing Crumbs - and the last person in the firm to ever get an assignment - finally gets a shot at a frontpage kidnapping, it's only because his beady-eyed boss Eliot Draisen (Jeffrey Jones) doesn't want the case solved. At stake is the gorgeous daughter of multi-millionaire P.J. Downing, a $10 million ransom, and Eliot's hot-to-trot mistress (Annie Potts). Attired in a bizarre array of goofball disguises, from a Hungarian hairdresser to a hefty housewife - Harry is bound, gagged and determined to crack the case and prove that when it comes to crime, he's one Crumb that won't be swept under the carpet.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2024I liked this movie back when it came out. It's ridiculous but worth a watch.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2021My son bought this movie, so here's his review.
I had never even heard of "Who's Harry Crumb?" before, and I was looking to take a break from my usual Asian movie watching to enjoy some good old american, and in John Candy's case, Canadian, comedy to kiss 2020 goodbye. I got nearly 20 movies for this send off, and I'm having a lot of fun watching through them all, but only one movie has, so far, left me with a pleasant sort of "wow" feeling upon completing it.
That movie was "who's Harry Crumb?", and it's a new personal favorite of mine.
John Candy is hilarious as Harry Crumb, a lousy private eye who gets a case about the kidnapping of a millionaire's daughter. Between his goofy disguises and expert physical comedy, Candy is a true delight as Harry Crumb.
Annie Potts does an excellent job as the millionaire's wife, and I thought there were enough little twists and turns in the plot to make it a truly enjoyable film.
At PG-13 it's not quite family fare, but there's nothing I'd consider to be worth condemning the film, and for under ten bucks it was truly a steal, even without the addition of any special features. I also liked the vhs style slip cover, as it looks good and easily fits in with my other blurays.
All in all, this movie was something special for me from start to finish. Definitely a true classic of a hidden gem. -A.J.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2024I often wonder why this movie didn't do well at the box office. It was set up at the end for a sequel. Well, this movie is funny and that's due to John Candy's humor. Every moment of this movie is enjoyable. Sit back and get ready to laugh!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2024This is a John Candy classic. There is plenty of humor, but some of it borders on risque. That said, these things will go unnoticed by children. It is quirky, funny, & is overall a good movie. It's not my favorite comedy, nor my least favorite. I'd rate it in the range of 65% to 70% of family comedy films I've seen.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2024It’s cute, silly kind of goofy, but I like John Candy movies.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2019John Candy's 1989 comedy "Who's Harry Crumb?" is underrated in my eyes. While certainly not one of his best films, it is still a lot of fun and has a lot to offer fans of the talented funnyman who was sadly taken from the world way too soon.
Mill Creek Entertainment brings the film to blu-ray in a bare bones release featuring a cool VHS retro style slipcover with the original poster art on the bluray sleeve itself.
The film is presented in its original 1.85:1 theatrical aspect ratio utilizing the AVC codec with a beefy bit rate usually hovering around 30 mbps and getting up into the mid 30's during some busy sections so no compression artifacts are seen. Detail is solid with nice color saturation along with good contrast and black levels. It does seem that some digital sharpening was used though as the film occasionally has a bit of a processed look at times and some shimmering occurs here and there but this only popped up during a couple of scenes. There is also some slight telecine wobble visible but is not too big of an issue. More than likely this is just an older HD master but all things considered the film looks good. Audio is in 2 channel lossless sound.
No extras or English subtitles were included. In fact the movie just starts right up and does not even feature a main menu though the 90 minute film is split up into 10 chapters.
For a budget priced release for a little less than 8 dollars currently, this comes recommended for fans of John Candy. While it is frustrating that Mill Creek Entertainment did not include English subtitles or even the film's trailer, the film still does look and sound good overall on its long overdue bluray debut.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2023I've loved this movie since it first came out in 1989! John Candy is an exceptional actor in everything he’s in! If you’re not a fan yet, you will be!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2022Like so many comics, there is only one and so it is with John Candy. A lovable teddy bear of a man with too many personal demons, he left us far too early. This movie is another gem. His disguises and accents, antics and charm is terrific. Kick the blues out by watching Candy. I wish they would release all of his movies for sale here on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great release
Comes in a retro slip cover that looks like an old VHS tape, even has a “be kind please rewind” sticker on it which is a great touch. However in this case I think it really would’ve benefited from using an actual VHS case, or a customized VHS case like Universal Studios do in their retro line of Blu-Ray releases.
The film itself looks really good, sharp and crisp. Overall very happy and completely satisfied, I’m just glad to finally see this classic on Blu-Ray.

No viene en castellano, además no tiene Zona 2 PAL, por lo que no podrás reproducirla en tu DVD o Blu-Ray aunque quisieras verla en inglés...
