How to choose a curtain rod

Determine size needed

  • Measure the size of window frame adding extra space for the brackets to be mounted, typically 4-5 inches outside the window frame on each side. For a fuller looking window, add more space outside the window frame.
  • The adjustable size range listed does not include the length of the decorative finials.
  • For tension rods, measure inside the window frame.

    I was surprised to discover that the majority of the rod is actually plastic (or feels like plastic. I purchased two to hang insulated drapes on a four-season porch. And even when extended to their full length (144”), with 6 curtain panels, they seem to be holding up well. They’ve only been up for a few days, but I live in MI and it’s been super cold and windy, and they held up to some pretty high winds blowing the curtains around. *Also, I purchased an extra set of brackets (also from Amazon, and match almost perfect) to shore up the middle of the rod, so I am sure that is helping as well.
