Evaporator coil iced up and ice got into the refrigeration section evaporator fan. Fridge section only went down to 55 deg. Freezer section OK at 0 deg. Code 05E on screen indicating defrost sensor error. Replaced with this new defrost sensor and no more 05E! Old sensor definitely bad since measured open circuit. Replacing defrost sensor itself was relatively easy, but getting to it behind the evaporator cover was challenging. Many online videos show you how to take off the evaporator cover, and definitely watch those before attempting any of this! Note that once the cover screws are removed, the cover should come off EASILY; if it doesn’t, it means there’s ice buildup between the cover and the evaporator coil and you need to unplug the fridge to let it thaw, possibly accelerating the process with a hair dryer. Somewhat frustrating, but saved hundreds and I now know a lot about the fridge workings. RF4289HARS manufactured in 2012.

Smasung fridges are so junk that there is a thriving parts market, including add-on accessories that are not even a part of the original design. If you are having ice build up issue in the evaporator panel at the back, in addition to replacing this sensor, consider installing SH502 drain heater kit. It is an additional heating coil that tags onto the existing circuit and stops ice from building up. Check out some Youtube videos.

After finding a leak in my Samsung refrigerator crisper, I reviewed several Youtube videos, before replacing the defrost heat sink to open a iced drain and this temperature sensor, Both items worked well and saved an expensive service call. Note: I also found that the water filter was leaking but swapping a new filter completed the project - no leaks!

This is the alternative to junking all of your Samsung appliances. I think this defrost sensor finally fixed the fridge now, even though I still get a very thin layer of frost on the back panel....right where the copper tubing meets the silver cool tubing...near the top screw. Unfortunately, every appliance was a shiny POS Samsung when I bought my house. The washer was already replaced after 4 years and the belt on the dryer was replaced after 5 years...Regardless of what you might think of their electronics, they definitely got out of their wheelhouse with appliances. I actually miss taking apart my Samsung refrig every week to defrost...I literally could do it in 5 minutes with my eyes closed. As everyone has mentioned, I had the noisy fan getting stuck on the ice. The ice would build up around the copper tubing at the top of cooling coils....Seems to have fixed. I suggest you watch the you tube videos on how to fix your Samsung appliances. There are definitely some cool short cuts, like "Rapid Defrost". I also replaced the dinky heating element at the bottom of cooling unit with the larger element like many others have done and that seems to work now too...make sure you unclog the ice in the tube before putting the panel back together so the water drains properly....otherwise it will stay clogged regardless of putting in the larger element. Again, l learned from you tube to use hot water and a turkey baster to clear the tube of ice. I didn't have the water leaking problem under the deli tray like many had. While working on the fridge, I also vacuumed the condenser and cleaned out the rubber drainage tubes in back of the unit. It's not an easy straight forward refridge to vacuum the coils and condenser, but it's something you should do with any fridge every few years, so they last longer and run cooler....One last very important piece of advice....if you're going to use a hair dry to defrost your fridge or melt the ice....BE CAREFUL...it only takes about 15 or 20 seconds to melt or deform the plastic. Use indirect heat from the hair dryer. I watch these you tube videos and everybody seems very nonchalant about telling people to use a hair dryer without telling them the risks.

True OEM part and works perfectly. The was for our Samsung RF31FMESBSR/AA that had a significant ice buildup issue. The defrost coil works and so did the defrost temperature probe but it doesn't clear ice that's not in contact with the areas in direct contact of the coil.

Out of caution we still replaced the probe since we gently used a hair dryer to assist in the defrost process. I also replaced the temperature probe for the refrigerator. This is a separate probe located in the foam liner behind the large cover over the evaporator. That temperature probe part number is DA32-00011D if you need one.

It was easy to install, but, it didn't seemt o be working as expected. I gave it a little bit time to see if it fixes the issue of freezing ice on the evaporator, but I just noticed ton of ICE and fan started the sound by hitting the ice on top of the evaporator ICE.

The sensor I removed read 3.7kOhms frozen, 2.5kOhms at room temp. So the refrig controls never saw the resistance get high enough to call for defrost. The new one reads 5.7kOhms at room temp/16.3kOhms in an ice bath. Seems to work fine for my Samsung rf260 (french door) refrig. Same size and shape (bullet shaped), same connector, same length of wire.
