Editorial Reviews
2018 release. On the 40th Anniversary of his iconic Equinoxe album, Jean-Michel Jarre releases the sequel - Equinoxe Infinity. This concept album will not be a direct follow-up to the 1978 masterpiece, but rather a meditation about the watchers (the characters with binoculars) as being part of the struggle (or not) between human and artificial intelligence. Jarre describes this album as "Equinoxe on steroids".

- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2019On first listen, it seemed like an attempt to capitalize on the first "Equinox" album (or at least the name); it didn't grab me at all. It seemed all over the map: a couple of pads with the usual phaser effects, two catchy pop-ish trance tunes, but no real opus. And it didn't sound anything like Equinox at all. And then after listening to it a few times, it clicks, and you "get it". Buried in the background, you can pick up elements from Equinox, but it'll also remind you of a couple of previous works such as Zoolook (rythm and ethnic voices sampling) and Rendez-Vous 4 (catchy beat) with an updated fresh "sound". There's even a a piece that sounded like collaboration with Vangelis because the CS80 is sort of front and center on that track (but it's not - lol). I am deliberately not identifying which tracks so as not to spoil your own discovery of the work.
Bottom-line: At first you think "meh", then discover it's actually a really cool album.
Well played, Mr. Jarre.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019Perhaps I set my expectations a bit too high after reading some of the positive reviews. Also, perhaps having "Equinoxe" in the title shaped my expectations too much (full disclosure, I favor JMJ's pre y2k works far more than his later releases). Here is my feeble attempt to describe my thoughts:
Movement 1 (M1) starts out superbly, ominous, then hopeful, but then seems to transition too quickly, leaving you longing for more before the fade out. First 30 sec resemble a Blade Runner opening tune.
M2 & M3: solid JMJ, but again M3 seems to close out too quickly (seems similar to when you click on "Sample this album" in the Amazon track listing) ... even though it is the second longest movement.
M4: starts ok, but then slowly fades into "meh" territory.
M5: ok transition track a bit quirky.
M6: upbeat, bouncy but not sure I like the choice of the "sound mode" of that foreground synthesizer that starts ~50 sec into the piece.
M7: starts out solid but not sure the synthie-voices in this piece will grow on me.
M8: nice classic sounding JMJ composition, complex, a head-bouncer.
M9: transition into this one a bit abrupt, overall seems more like something from a tv soundtrack .
M10: beautiful lead out.
Overall, several tracks seemingly build up the expectation of ... "alright...here we go...buckle up! " .. only to suddenly close out rather prematurely. With only 40 minutes taken up on this CD it seems JMJ could have provided us with a bit more substance.
Overall a decent album for the collection but in my book 3.5 stars rounded down to 3.
BTW, thanks to the reviewers for pointing out the lack of a "full album" track in the MP3 version. Disappointing that Amazon US is not offering that, especially since the german amazon site offers it. I bought the CD and ripped the tracks myself.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2020I really liked this! It's not especially groundbreaking material for Jean-Michel Jarre, but EQUINOXE INFINITY does have a number of memorable tracks on it. For sheer listenability from start to finish, I'd rank it alongside CHRONOLOGIE and the original EQUINOXE. I enjoyed this effort a lot more than the two volumes of ELECTRONICA collaborations Jarre released a few years ago, and it was much more satisfying than the disappointing OXYGENE 3. Favorite tracks are "The Watchers", "Flying Totems", and "The Opening".
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2019I have been a fan of JMJ since 1979 when I heard “Oxygen “ for the first time and was mesmerized by it . It is not fair to expect this album to be “like” Equinox it is like expecting two siblings to be alike
There are subtle similarities between these two albums but Equinox Infinity stands by itself the more you listen to it the more wonderful it becomes
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2019On contrary of what people would be lead to believe, cover 1 is the rare one to get. You will probably get cover 2 of this album. The digipak in cover 2 is also thicker, for some reason. Nevertheless, the music in this product is absolutely fabulous.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2018Finally an album to grow into, with a variety of melodies and styles while staying 100% true Jarre. I'm not in love with this album yet (having only listened twice) but I like it already, and savor bit by bit. There is some substance to it, unlike the last Oxygene...
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2021I am a huge JMJ fan since around 1980. This is a wonderful addition to my library. Love these songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes time to get to know
This is a slow grower. It may sound, on first listen or three, bland, flat even devoid of ideas, but as you get to know it the nods to earlier albums click, and (for me) the catchy/standout tracks work their way in - like tracks 2 (Flying Totems - think of track 1 as an extended intro/build up, in the vlassic JMJ style) and the track Infinity (track 6).
Now it's one of my most played, even favourite, albums of his, and takes its place alongside classics like Magnetic Fields, Oxygene, Equinoxe, Rendez-vous and even (parts of) Zoolook and the first track (Calypso) from Waiting For Cousteau (plus the Aero DVD for that great 5.1 experience - although turn off the eyes!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Equinoxe Infinity
Tutto ok. Pensavo che arrivasse nella solita custodia di plastica. Invece è arrivata nella versione "cartonta" se posso usare questo termine. Belle le illustrazioni. Aggiunto nella mia collezione.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente trabajo
