First off, my husband and I really liked the look of this tool kit because it reminded us so much of Dexter's knife kit from the tv show Dexter. We thought it would be funny to set up the table, covered in saran wrap with pictures of last years jack o'lanterns and this toll kit, rolled out.
But this isn't a supple leather roll, it is more like a piece cut out from a diner booth, kinda stiff and shiny. So making a grand rolling gesture with it was a total waste of time.
Now about the tools we really liked there is this half funnel scoop thingy, it lets you press into the pumpkin and then with a quick twist you can create a perfect circle and pull out a perfect cylinder of pumpkin (this was wonderful for the blue pumpkin because it was too hard to carve). We made dozens of perfect holes in the blue pumpkin and with a flashing light inside it looked like a spaceship!
The second tool I liked was the smaller scraper. I used it to clear out a lot of the icky stringy bits and to carve out the innner parts of the pumpkin face I had carved so that the candle inside would show the face.
The scoop-scrapers were on the small side and I don't think any of them could hold a candle to the metal spoon with a serrated edge tool I bought several years ago.
There was another tool I really liked. It had a single sharp spike with a hard plastic handle. I used it to start cuts, something for the carving knife to start on and then when my son tried it on his warty pumpkin (never want to get one of those again, they mold fast and all the warts are hard as rocks!) the spike snapped clear off. Very disappointing because it was one of the more useful tools and I have not seen its equal in any of the tools that are sold near Halloween.
Everything cleaned up fast with a basin full of hot soapy water.
I don't know if I'd recommend this set.
