Meet the characters behind this inspirational true story
Louis Zamperini
An Olympian, Louis was an Army Air Corps Lieutenant who crashed at sea, and then survived seven weeks on an open raft and two years of psychological and physical torture by the Japanese. Captured in Laura Hillenbrand’s bestselling novel Unbroken, the rest of his remarkable true story upon his return home from World War II is told in this film.
Cynthia Zamperini
Fiery, whip-smart, strikingly beautiful, and the daughter of rich socialites, Cynthia marries Louis, for better or worse, after a whirlwind courtship. Despite an unknown future in the war’s aftermath, she becomes Louis’ biggest advocate and instrumental in helping him find his path through faith.
Billy Graham
This beloved American evangelist became a global icon beginning with his famous 1949 Los Angeles revival. While preaching a sermon there, Billy touched Louis’ soul in a way that changed the war hero’s life forever. Billy Graham is played by his real-life grandson, Will Graham.
Pete Zamperini
A devoted older brother, Pete helped guide and inspire young Louis, serving as his first running coach. After his own service in World War II, Pete once again was there to encourage and support Louis as his younger brother’s “war” continued raging.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2019I've seen both of Unbroken and Unbroken: Path to Redemption and I enjoyed both of these movies. A few things that I would like to point out that stood out for me in the second one that could have been edited and/or redone to go along with the first one in several scenes of the second one. First, let us remember and not forget that Louie Zamperini was a Commissioned Officer and was the rank of a 1st Lieutenant well before his flight crew and him sunk down in the South Pacific while they were all in the Army Air Corps during World War II and not a Staff Sergeant Non Commissioned Officer as they showed in several scenes in the second half of he was already liberated from the POW camp in Japan by the Allies. It was right on point after he came back from the POW camp and got promoted to the rank of Captain when he got home, as this was on point in both movies as far as his correct and actual rank was during and after World War II. As a former service member and having served in the United States Army myself as an enlisted personnel and not an officer my time in the service, it doesn't matter if we are current or former military, we are indoctrinated with not only the military values and way of life but noticing something that may seem so little but really is not and in particular uniformity as well as proper and correct rank and insignia as well. Also, I remember from the first Unbroken movie and documentaries that I have watched about Louie Zamperini, it was more than just him by himself on the raft in the ocean in the South Pacific when him and his crew were stranded once the plan crashed into the ocean and they got that wrong also in the second movie besides incorrect rank and insignia that Louie Zamperini was, well before he got liberated from the POW camp, as it was him, Phil and his other buddy Mack who survived the crash and were stranded in the South Pacific and not just Louie. I'm also not sure as to why they showed "The Bird" in a scene with Louie in the water (well before Louie and Phil got captured by the Japanese, in regards to that scene where they made it seem like Louie already knew "The Bird", before he actually did which we all know is not correct either in the second movie), when that Japanese plane, shot at and poked holes in their raft from the gun shots when they did not realize that Enemy plane was approaching them, not knowing that that was not going to be the day they would be rescued by friendly forces from their beyond awful ordeal, when they had no idea what was yet to come for all of them. Other than that, I enjoyed watching the movie and I give this one a 4/5 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2019Unbroken is based on the true life of Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connell) who faced and survived incredible and horrendous difficulties. The film opens with a battle sequence between bombers and Japanese zeros during World War II. It's very well done and you are quickly engrossed, nervously clenching the armrests of your chair while you are enduring the battle. From there the story takes us through Louis' childhood, his Italian upbringing, and his Olympic athleticism cut short by the War. We are taken back to the war-torn plane that barely makes it to base. Soon thereafter, with a replacement crew, they are sent back out in nothing more than a rickety, clunky yet "certified" flying-device. Sure enough, all the engines die and they crash land in the Pacific Ocean with Louis being one of the three survivors. After 47 days at sea, they are picked up by a Japanese ship and shipped off to prisoner of war camp. Louis quickly becomes the focus of the Savage camp commander who takes his violent abuse out upon Louis. But, Lewis endures, and endures, and endures. You find yourself amazed at how he survived the physical and mental torture and remained unbroken.
Angelina Jolie directs and does a great job. The cinematography is excellent and the acting is all very good. Jack O'Connell plays the leading character is very talented. We will be hearing more of him in the future. The film has little cussing and what it does have is contextually appropriate.
I would definitely recommend this film especially since it opens up with a scene of preacher actually mentioning Jesus in a favorable light. This is something uncommon in Hollywood nowadays where Christians are routinely vilified. But, not so here. In fact, at the end of the movie, we are told how his faith helped him and how he went back to Japan years later and forgave his captors. Of course, the real Louis Zamperini became a Christian, but the movie portrays a generic kind of belief in God at his conclusion. At least, it wasn't insulting to the Christian faith. That's a nice switch.

This is an excellent Christian movie, well done, it really portrays the result of post traumatic stress syndrome, and that there is hope in Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Completes the first movie UnBroken
The movie goes into Louis Zamperini life after returning to the States after returning from Japanese captivity.
Louis suffered from PTSD (a common term today) regarding returning vets, and a result his life was a mess.
So it explains and fills in a lot of gaps of how he went from a total mess to be able to return to Japan and forgive his captors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Incredible
Incredible acting, believable characters and insighful directing brought this story to life for me from the opening frame. This film gives insight into his life, the challenges he faced and how he tried to solve them. It feels like you are living right along side them. Gripping. Compelling. Amazing.
